  1. So a reserve LEO comes to his first USPSA match wearing his thigh rig and flash light attached. As a CRO I ask him if he is a LEO. His shooting buddy steps in and tells me he is a reserve officer. So far I am ok. I asked, "does he have the power to arrest?" Then does he have the power to arrest anytime or only when he is on duty? Both shooters are nice enough guys. I want the new shooter to return. The new shooter shoots the rest of the match. However, I tell him, under USPSA rules LEOs can wear their duty rigs but they have to be LEO with the power to arrest. Next time, you have to abide by the rules.
  2. In major matches that I have attended, after the squad walk through, the RO/CRO usually gives the first shooter a chance to walk the stage alone. Same in most of the local matches. Sometimes, RO/CROs need to be reminded it about the shooter getting a fair chance. Seriously, how many of you have notice that not just the on deck shooter but others are walking the stage between shooters. From a personal standpoint, I like being the first shooter if I have a chance to walk the stage appropriately. There have been times where I did not take the time to do a good walk through and tanked the stage. Lesson learned.
  3. Parker Arms was a small commercial reloader. He was heavy into rifle accuracy. When he dedicated a 1050 for my 40 S&W, he did not like my FCD. He showed me article after article on rifle accuracy degraded by the crimp. His 223 stuff did not have a crimp and was MOA accurate. Not sure it that adds or subtracts value to the discussion. Hornady Steel Match works well out of my JP CTR. So does Black Hills stuff. $$$$$$$ for my tastes. He changed his mind on my FCD for my pistol.
  4. Mikeg1005: I have known Stealthly for a while. He is probably one the best most thoughtful CROs out there. That includes some 13 years of National, Area and local matches. Do you have any idea of how many matches there are a month in the Phoenix Area? He has a tad bit of experience. You know not of what you write.

    CO

I shoot steel SV grips on my SV full length dust cover in limited and short DC in my 3G SV. Heavy is an issue because I prefer it, significantly. The impulse/recoil/flip are all consistent as far as I am concerned. My XD was done by Scott Springer so it was a performer but I prefer a steel gun.

    SP01 for CO

I have a SP01 I am going to have convert to a CO. I will have CZC do the upgrade work but I am clueless about what Optic I should put on it. I am just an average shooter on Social Security = not great eyesight. I shoot Rio Tuesday Night Steel mostly so that means rarely a 50 yrd plates. I have Holsun on my PCC and like the dot and circle. But I am not sure if that would be worthwhile on a pistol. What optic and size dot would be a good choice? Thanks in advance.
  8. Come to Tuesday Night Steel in AZ. Lots of SS in AZ matches. SS production is a solution for a non-existent problem.
  9. Organize! As a recovering consultant/project manager, I make lists; mental and ink on paper long before the match. Nail down your travel arrangements-no surprises are a good thing. Pre-match: Ensure your gear is in shape. If you clean your gun make sure it works before you get to the match. All your gear: shoes, socks, belts, mags, holster etc....Lay it all out days before the match and inventory it. Match Day: Nutrition is critical. Fluids are more important-it has been said a 10% decrease in hydration can lead to a 40% reduction in performance. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is introducing yourself to your squad mates. Stage: READ the briefing, then read it again. Locate and count all targets. Make a plan, visualize it, Do NOT change it while on deck. Shoot within your abilities. I use to travel with some GMs. You would not believe how anal/detailed oriented these guys were--nothing was assumed to be ok with them checking and rechecking. They were the same way in walking the stage. When they got to line, they knew what, when and where; all they did was shoot one shot at a time.
  10. I believe BJ Norris won with a TS. Accuracy is outstanding on the TS. I had the original Marvel. The guide rod tighten the slide to the frame. Every time I cleaned the gun I had to sight it in again. I was not happy with the overall performance of the upper. I SOLD it. I have a TS upper that works for my SS and Limited gun. It is very reliable. The only issue I ever had was with ammo. It did not like Remington. It ran with subsonic ammo. Generally I use CCI Mini mags @~1250 fps. The mags are excellent and costly but worth the price. I brought a TS for my friend's Glock. I brought the TS AR upper also. I had an issue and Colt at TS called me within 4 hours. They resolved the issue at no expense to me other than initial shipping. I should add the gun was running like a clock for almost 6 years before I had a problem.
  11. How about you look at the velocity of both rounds. The faster bullet will drop less, or the laws of physics are not applicable where you live. At that short of a distance, there might be little difference. However, 35 yr plate racks might be interesting.
  12. Wilson are great guns. the RO is a very good basic gun. You want to improve it. Call SA and their performance shop. Dave has/had three of his smiths belong to the PistolSmith Guild. That is a big deal! C&S has two. Virgil is one. Sandy S is another. Look their membership up. There are alternatives out there, guys from Baer or Wilson's shops have their own shops now and produce quality work. Do you want cast or bar stock steel? Or high quality steel. Workmanship is nice, i.e. blending. Barrel fitting is critical. Way too many variables here for a 20 second sound byte response.
  13. How is your cash situation? Can you afford for it to be "tuned" by a real gunsmith? Also, some holsters might or might not work. Check their websites before buying. Do not assume anything.
  14. Plus 1 on Virgil and his wifey. He built one of my 40s. HIs mags are great.
  15. Back to your original question: the answer is yes. Read up on the feed lips dimensions. I have used Wilson 45 mags in a Tripp built 40 but the feed lips were adjusted. Brazos might have the specs or Gram.
  16. First, the quality of the hammer and sear take center stage. MIM parts v. Bar Stock? Who does the trigger job? I know SV triggers that have over 80,000 rounds are still sub 2 lb. MIM not so great. A general question like yours needs more data. I have seen some shade tree gunsmiths do <2lb triggers but they eventually crap out. Kodiak Precision, ECG, Brazos, Bedell, McLearn, seem to last the longest. Add Tripp to the list when he was building guns. Garbage in = garbage out. It is cheaper to go first class in the long run.
  17. Hi-Power Jack Installed the trigger yesterday. The JP anti-walk pins are too big. Used the pins that came with the kit. The instructions were rather marginal but then again I only install JP stuff. JP tutorials on the web are excellent. The JP safety works with the trigger. The release has an interesting feel to it. Not bad just different. The hammer speed is quite strong. Ran a mag of Hornady Steel Match ammo. It usually has a failure per mag with the JP trigger. The gun ran like a scalded monkey. Splits were fast. No failures. I am going to look for some of my russian ammo tonight, otherwise, I'll buy some tomorrow and run a mag or two. So far I am impressed and happy. But then again I am just a duffer. I'll try some precision work next week. More to follow.
  18. Once upon a time, I had SV Open, SV Limited/Major, SV Limited/Minor, SV SS/Major, SV SS/Minor, SA Production and CZ Production. SV Open gun-gone My bad. SA Production-gone Not bad CZ Production-gone My bad. I usually shoot SS but since I am not going to Lim Nats, I have switched to shooting my SV Limited 9mm for a few months. I'll switch to my Limited Major gun a month before Nationals just to get some .40 range time. I like shooting the SS platform the most.
  19. Probably will install this week. Doing a LaRue scope mount and the triggers at the same time.
  20. John has a good idea, even for a revolver shooter. I just moved to AZ. Not much of a move since I lived in NM. First, I packed all my gun and reloading stuff. Golf boxes were great for long guns. The guys who loaded the truck had no idea there were guns etc. Don't overload the box. Boxes are cheap, not worth having one break in transit. Call Roy Neal. He posts here. He insures a boat load of companies. He does my insurance. If you are driving also, I would take my most expensive guns on the three trek across the US. Read up on the LAWS. NJ and MA are not kind.
  21. Sorry to hear about your Trojan. Mine had <1.5 inch groups new. It is still very accurate. But I hear things have changed at STI. I have a Kart .40 in one of my SS. Could not be happier. Very accurate. I was not sure about Kart when I was looking at my new build. I had heard the AMU Bulleye guys used Kart. I talked with Virgil Tripp and he liked them for my build.
  22. What barrel? My Nowlin and Kart are faster than either of my Schuemann barrels. Taran and I did a side by side test. He was working up a load for Nationals. Nowlin and Kart were about 15-20 fps faster than his Schuemann. Shorter the OAL the less powder needed in my barrel. With a 200 gr Zero and can make major at 166-167 with 4.5 VV320, in the SW.
  23. Wilson's shred. I had some Dillon that lasted. Haven't used them in a decade, no frame issue.
