  1. If you haven't already, order a spare parts kit. I don't know if the piece that broke on you is in that kit, but, one day an obscure spring or something else that IS in the kit will break on you at the worst possible time and you'll be VERY happy you have a spare on hand! Ask me how I know about that! Edited to add: The 650 is a great machine and I'm sure Dillon will help you get it running great! With respect to your high primer problem, are you encountering too much resistance when you push the handle back to seat the primer? What kind of brass and primers are you using?
  2. I've had the same thing with my 650. I really only notice it when loading minor (5.0gr of N320 with a 115gr JHP). This powder/charge combination doesn't sling out of the case very easily so I can really crank the handle. But, then I start having case feed issues as you describe. So I just throttle back a bit. I do need to clean my case feed tube though. There's quite a bit of gunk in mine from the One Shot. I believe another thing that hurts is vibrations. My bench is solid but not as solid as it should/could be. I believe this also causes some case feed problems when going really fast.
  3. There is a mag length limit in Tac division. Limit is same as Limited division in USPSA. In tuned 140mm STI tubes with basepads you shouldn't have any trouble getting 22 rounds in them. Probably more like the 23 you're use to. So, I don't think you'll be giving up anything.
  4. Another recommendation for Stihl! I've bad mine for 4 years now and still runs great. Has always started easy. My dad has had his brush cutter/weed eater for at least 15 years and it's still going strong!
  5. Yup! He's a great guy! He's worked on some of my guns before and I wouldn't hesitate to have him work on more! Edit to add: He does shoot at several of the local club IDPA, USPSA, and Steel matches. So, he is familiar with the demands/requirements of competition shooting.
  6. That's a pretty sweet racker! Thanks for posting that. My daughter is older/stronger now and can rack the 22/45 bolt just fine now but that would be nice for a younger shooter IMO.
  7. My daughter found it very difficult to rack the bolt on the Ruger Mark 3 22/45 and the standard Mark 3 due to the smallish ears that you have to grasp. It was fine if the hammer was back, but if the hammer was down she couldn't rack it. Another minor issue with the Ruger is that those ears tend to pinch the skin if you ride the bolt closed when closing it after unloading. The Browning Buckmark gives you a bit more area to grab on its slide so that one would have been a little better choice when my daughter was younger. The Allchin C-more mount on the Buckmark (or Ruger for that matter) is pretty sweet. Make sure she goes with you to the store to get it. One reason for this is that you should have her try the different brands/models grips out and make sure it fits her hand ok and she can reach the bolt/slide release and mag release. Another, more important reason IMO, is she'll have a great time/memory from going with you to pick out 'her' gun! Edited to add, unless you want a 2011 conversion kit for yourself as well and/or you know she's going to get really into it, I would suggest the Ruger or Browning. Either of these can be had for less than the conversion kit AND the mags are much cheaper. Best to have 5 for steel challenge and with the TacSol 2211 conversion you're looking at $95+ each!! Even if you find them severely discounted somewhere I bet they're still gonna run you 60 bucks a pop.
  8. Welcome! There will be a steel challenge match this coming Sunday at the Austin Rifle Club. Come out and shoot with us!
  9. I'm running at 1.240" with the Montana Gold JHP 115's in 38 super comp.
  10. For Corpus area check out cbshooters.com, texascarbine.com, and ccpistolrifleclub.com. Also, sign up for the TXIPSC mailing list to get additional match announcements for the Texas area.
  11. Yes, I'm running 9.8gr with a 115 JHP out of a 5" Katana. It has 7 barrel holes and the Akai compensator. Power factor about 175.
  12. Welcome! Lots of pistol shooting in the central Texas area! There's a USPSA match this Saturday and a steel challenge format match this Sunday. Come out and get some trigger time!

Welcome! If you can, build your bay to 35 yards deep and 20 yards wide. If you can't make it that big, scale back from there. IDPA generally won't have you shooting that far but you may find yourself wanting to shoot some steel challenge or other disciplines in the future and 35 yards should give you plenty of space. I forget what the longest distance for the IDPA classifier is but you can find it on their website. Also, why wait 2-5 years to compete?? Go out to a local match and tell the folks you're new and want to learn. They'll be excited to have you and coach you through your first match. Most important thing is to be safe and have fun! Don't wait 2 years to do it!!
  14. The Trubore (my first open gun) is a pretty beefy gun so I don't know if you'll need the heavy mag well. I'd say try it as it comes and if needed add a heavy mag well later. I personally favor 38 Super Comp. I mark my brass and get most of it back. Lots of folks really love the sideways mounts. I think that's another personal preference thing. Try some of both styles from other shooters in your area and see which you like better. The gun should run (eject) with either mount if it's tuned right so it really just comes down to what you feel more comfortable with. Speaking of tuning the gun, you may consider ordering it from Dawson or Brazos and get their enhancement packages on it to make sure it runs 100%. That's what I did because I've read/heard of some STI guns straight from the factory that aren't 100%. However, once you add the enhancement package to a Trubore, you're getting pretty close in price to a 'Yakuza' custom build from Akai Custom Guns. I'd suggest you give Shay a call and get a quote from him on what you're looking for. I'm sure he'll work with you on options to help fit your budget. His guns are ridiculously accurate, look awesome, run 100%, and his support is fantastic! Some of the fastest custom build times out there as well! Check out his vendor area here on the forums!
  15. Hey youngster, you shouldn't be worrying about a little recoil! If I don't find them here I'll stop Thrusday in New Braunfels or Buda. Hey Ron, I wouldn't waste your time stopping in Buda. When I dropped by there yesterday, a) they only had sabot slugs they had only a couple boxes of buckshot and they were 3" magnums, c) all of their birdshot shells were $1 to $3 dollars more than other places like Dicks and Academy for the same shells. The Academy in Austin off of Brodie has a surprisingly large selection of 00B buckshot.
  16. Dicks has 00B 15 shot packs for 16 dollars. At least the one in New Braunfels does. Good luck if you want reduced recoil slugs though. GT was where I got them last year but I haven't checked this year. I've got 20 of the Remington "sluggers" on hand already so I'm going with those. No pain no gain right?
  17. Holy Crap! Glad you're ok Jamie!
  18. I'm already looking forward to next year! I thought the match went off great! Thanks for all the hard work!
  19. Thanks a bunch! I had a fantastic time shooting this match! Already looking forward to next year! Shooting rimfire I did my normal first plate to cone sight picture and one RO said loaded sight pictures were not allowed. That surprised me a bit but I followed the RO's instruction and finished out the stage without taking the sight pictures. On other stages the RO's didn't say anything about it. I would really like to understand what the official word is on this and if it is not allowed, start letting people know at our club matches so they are not surprised at a big match.
  20. They did not forbid it at the Steel Challenge World Shoot in California last year or in 2010. It's very common to take a loaded sight picture in the rimfire match - aim at the target you're going to 'draw' to, then back at the cone. However, 'common' doesn't necessarily translate to 'correct'. The RO's in California would tell you something if you took to long about it, going back and forth from cone to target over and over, but they did not forbid a quick loaded look between runs. Not sure that it really helps me one way or another but it's just part of my pre-run routine. If that's a habit I need to break, I'd like to know so I can make the change. In my opinion, I don't see how it is unsafe and if you touch one off while doing it, you're obviously DQ'ed. I feel the most important point is that all the RO's enforce the rules consistently.
  21. Nice Benny! Got any pics? What powder and primer do you have behind that A-max bullet?
  22. Too freaking funny!! Congrats on the win Shred!!
  23. Welcome! Sorry to hear you'll be leaving Texas, but hopefully you'll remain a competitor for life!
  24. I'm using the 11 coil in my 140 SVI tube. I tried the 13 coil and it'll work but I lost one round of capacity. This is with 38SC and a Dawson +1 basepad.
  25. Chuck, so you're saying any and all nationals matches will count towards points for earning a slot to the 2014 WS in Florida? USPSA nationals matches count just as the IPSC nationals? Thanks, Thomas
