  1. I'm currently running N105 (10.5gr with a 115JHP) and have also run 4756 with the same bullet. I think I needed 9.1 or 9.2 with 4756. There's lots of opinions, etc. on the various loadings for these, and many other, powders in the reloading forum. My major problem personally with 4756 is that it's kind of messy to load since it fills the case so full. N105 fills it pretty good too but the bigger kernels don't seem to fly out of the case as easily as the finer flakes of 4756. Both are pretty clean burning, 4756 is quite a bit cheaper and usually in stock more often than N105.
  2. Just measured mine. Sitting right around .105". That's about 2.667mm. Now I'm anxious to get my Racemaster to see if it's gonna work. My other rig, CR Speed, works just fine.
  3. I've got a Racemaster on order with the Caspian block. I looked at your pic above and compared to a pic I have on my phone of my frame. Yours sure looks thinner by a good bit. But, it's hard to tell with two different pictures. I'll measure the thickness of mine when I get home.
  4. I'll measure when I get home. Someone else may chime in before that though. I'm assuming you're talking about thickness, not width? What holster are u trying to use?
  5. I handled one of these at Benny's shop yesterday. They are awesome!! Never felt a trigger so good on a shotgun!
  6. How late will we have access to the range on Friday to get a look at the stages?
  7. Where are all the Enos shooters staying? Are there any plans for dinner get togethers for either Friday or Saturday night?
  8. Randy, Welcome to the forum and to competitive shooting in central Texas! There's pretty much a match every weekend within an hours drive! I'll be at jamie's match on Sunday. If you end up making it out, look for me! Steel can be shot with a 22, cheap and easy to get your feet wet! I can help you out with gear to borrow if you wanna give it a go! Gonna be a great weekend weather wise, don't spend the whole time at the office!!
  9. I'd like to know if CNN is rigging things or if there's just a delay in the vote tabulation. I voted NO from two different PC's and the vote count remains unchanged....
  10. I got a new Chrono, Double Alpha belt, Double Alpha mag pouch, target paster gun, D-wipes and D-lead soap! Pretty much all I ask for for Christmas and birthdays anymore is shooting related stuff!
  11. Sounds like the new style tubes are the preference for 38sc. Is that correct? Like I posted above, the one I have holds 21 with the Cape style Quickchange basepad and Caspian guts. With these new tubes is it more desirable to go with the Wallgren basepads instead of the Caspian Quickchange design. Should I change to the Grams spring and follower? Thanks!
  12. I received one of the new 140's from Caspian with my high cap frame kit. It easily holds 21 rounds of 38sc. I don't know about the reliability though as the gun is not built yet. But I'm working on that!! Will be talking to the gunsmith tomorrow!! I don't know what the major differences are between the new and old Caspian design. But I may order one of the old design from PowerFactor to compare.
  13. Thanks for the link! I'll have to contact Sean about some of those! The barrel and comp arrived this week! I've got all of the major components in and can't wait to get it started!
  14. Randy, If yours or the "old design" 19 round magazines, I'll bet they say 9mm-.38 super. I have 9 of these old magazines and I understand that they are calibre interchangable, no spacer required. The new "Cape-Design" 21 round magazines are not. You have to order either .38 super or 9mm. I have one of these magazines in .38 super and I am, um, not impressed. I just continue to use the old design mags and my 2 welded big sticks. The old style 19 rounders are still available from caspian at, I think, around $85.00 a pop. Mine look like hell but work fine. 4 of them are my original magazines from 1993. I bought the other 5 from a forum member before the Nationals that had sat in a safe for 10 years. 2-3 of them are marked Springfield Armory 9mm-.38 super but they are obviously Caspians and also work fine. Marty A-7424 Marty, what issues are you having with the new 21 round Caspian mags that are making you "unimpressed"?
  15. All of the people I work closely with know. Usually the subject of 'what did you do this weekend?' comes up and I'm not bashful about it at all! I've got a Rudy Project sticker, USPSA sticker, and Springfield Armory sticker on the wall of my cube. Several people have asked, "So what exactly is Practical shooting". And I've explained it to them. Many people are open minded about it and a couple really think it's interesting. Albeit not to the point where they would actually come out to a match. There are a couple that see the open gun on my computer wall paper and immediately turn a bit pale in their face and say stuff about how guns are 'scary'.
  16. Terrible to hear this. Condolences to your friend/co-worker.
  17. So, on Henning's site, there's a 38 super 171.25mm mag listed that holds 28 rounds. There's also a "Henning Built Competition 38 super" listed to hold 24 rounds. Is the 24 round mag just a tuned 140mm or is it also a 170mm? Will any of these EAA mags work with the 'Cape' Caspian base pads? The screw on pads they come with seem to be a little cumbersome. Maybe I'm just spoiled from the Dawson 'toolless' being all I've known and the screw on's are really not that big of a deal to screw/unscrew?
  18. Thanks for the information on the magwell. I guess I'll hold off on that until spring and make a selection then. That limited gun is awesome looking!! I definitely gotta try and get the SVI trigger installed on the Caspian bow!! The barrel (Schuemann AET 38 Super, finished chamber) and compensator (Dawson TJ) are ordered! Can't wait for those parts to come in and get this baby started!! I've seen in searches that Tanfolio mag bodies can be modified to work in Caspians. Does anyone know if there's a 170mm Tanfolio tube available that I can use to make a big stick for this build? If so, which model number and where's the best place to order? Thanks!
  19. To the original poster, I heard through the grapevine that Dawson may be making an ICE magwell for the Caspian widebody in the near future. Although, the EGW magwell works good too. I have a widebody frame waiting to be built as well. I think I'm going to wait until Spring to see if some new parts may become available over the winter. Chris That would be sweet! Can anyone confirm this??
  20. If your 22/45 is drilled and tapped, the factory base and a Railway will work just fine. Not drilled and tapped? Weigand mount and Railway or you can drill and tap the mount and not use the rail, as I have done in post #3. Cool, Thanks. Mine is already drilled and tapped. You can also use the Allchin mount for the Ruger and a Slideride. It gets the sight lower on the gun and centers it over the pistol (front to back) better than the factory base and Railway option IMO.
  21. Bringing this thread back to the top for confirmation and some additional questions. I'm getting ready to order a barrel and just wanted to confirm that for 38SC, it sounds like the majority of folks are recommending the AET barrel with the 24" 'Gain Twist' if shooting 115gr to 125gr bullets. Is that correct? My second question(s) relate to the chamber. Schuemann doesn't list an AET 24" gain twist barrel with a .355" short chamber. They only list one with a 38 super chamber (or 9x19 but I'm building 38SC) with 24" gain. Will that chamber still require some final reaming by the smith? Is it better to go with a different twist and the short chamber? Thanks!
  22. Thanks Marty! I've always been drawn to things that are a little 'different'. Raymond, thanks for the info on the EGW magwell. Gonna get one of those on order today! Do you shoot a Caspian open gun?? Ron, thanks for the offer on the Dawson scope mount! I'll let you know when I'm at a match again. Fall/winter is hard with my daughter's schedule at school. But, I'm going to try to make it to the November Alpha Mike match. I've got a Dawson mount with replaceable blast shield on my Trubore. But, I never had any barrel ports put into that gun so I may swap it out for the stock STI mount that I've got in my parts box and use the Dawson on the new build which I intend to have ported. We'll see.... Thanks!
  23. Thanks for the info Caspian Guy! So, the EGW slides on from the back and then is held in place by a longer mainspring housing pin? Do you know if the pin comes with the magwell? Ron, I'll definitely be going straight upright with my Cmore! Not a personal fan of the sideways mount! Probably Dawson or Alchin mount with blast shield. Comp will most likely be Dawson. Barrel will be Schuemann bull. Sear, disco, and hammer are Briley unless the smith I go with prefers something else. Aftec extractor for sure! Already got a Caspian slide too. Can't wait to get this sucker started!!
