  1. So, would it be best for me to slug the barrel to find out if I need to use .355, .356, or .357 inch diameter bullets? Is it in fact a no-no to use moly coated bullets, like those from Bear Creek or Master Blaster, in a comp'ed gun? Thanks all! Trodrig
  2. For bullets I was looking at the HAP 121 grain if I couldn't use moly coated or copper plated bullets. trodrig
  3. aerosigns, Did you notice much smoke with the Bear Creek Moly's? After I shoot my last 500 cast lead SWC's I want to give these a try to see if they cut down on the smoke and carbon buildup in the gun. Also, have you tried Clays powder? Clays felt alot better to me than bullseye at equivalent velocities with 200grain SWC's. Less snappy recoil...much softer. Just a suggestion of something you might want to try..... Thanks! Trodrig
  4. I've been loading rifle, shotgun, 44mag and 45 ACP for several years now. I hope to buy a 38 SC open gun in the not too distant future and was just wondering what I need to be prepared for in loading for this round. I'll be loading on a Dillon 650 which is currently set up for 45 but I'll convert for 38SC. Initially I'll be wanting to develop a minor PF load for steel. Please let me know if there are any general things I need to be aware of. Here's a few specific questions that have been rolling around in my head: Been reading the forum and it sounds like you're not supposed to use any kind of polymer coated or even copper plated bullets in a gun with a compensator. Is this true? If so, why? Is Longshot a good powder to use for minor loads in 38 SC? What brand of brass do you like the best for 38 SC? Starline? What brand of primer do you like? Do you use small pistol or small rifle for minor loads? Thanks! Trodrig
  5. Hi all! Weather permitting, I'm going to try and shoot my first USPSA match this weekend. I've shot IDPA several times and was wondering what kind of differences I can expect. I'll be shooting Limited-10 with a Kimber 45. For L-10 can I use my CR Speed holster? Thanks! trodrig
  6. Thanks for the info all! Initially I want the pistol for shooting steel but I would like to try USPSA open class as well. How difficult (expensive) would it be to turn a gun like the Trubore into a dedicated steel gun should I decide to do so later? Like I said originally, I'm brand new to open class guns. I'm considering 38 super comp to make it easier to get to major PF should I decide to shoot USPSA. But, I was wondering if I should consider 9mm since I'll shoot steel primarily...at least to start. Is it possible to load 9mm to major for USPSA in the same gun I'd use for steel? What (if any) are the tricks to loading 9mm major? trodrig
  7. What would need to be cut and why for a dedicated steel gun?
  8. Hi all! I'm looking at buying my first open gun for steel challenge shooting and wanted to get some opinions on where to start. I'm looking at an STI Trubore in 38 super comp. I've never fired an open gun before and am just wondering what you all think about this one and if there's any other advice ya'll can provide. Thanks! trodrig
