Hey folks! I picked up my Caspian high cap frame this week. After checking it out I like how it feels so am planning on building a new open gun on it in 38SC! I'm going to document the process, and ask questions, here. Thanks to Caspian for the support of our sport! I picked up the frame kit certificate from the Steel Challenge prize table! First question is on magwells. Is EGW the only company making add on, wide magwells for Caspian high cap frames? Can anyone tell me if it attaches to the frame with the mainspring housing pin similar to an Ice on a 2011? Thanks!

Hey Ron! Looks like one of your Dawson comps has two sets of side ports. One in the first chamber and one in the last. The other only has side ports in the last chamber. What difference have you observed between the two, if any? Thanks, Thomas

If she wants to come out to a match, a steel match might be just the ticket for her first one. She could shoot rimfire and not have to worry about drawing from a holster. Also, there's little movement in steel. There should be a steel match this Sunday and next Saturday at the Cedar Ridge range in Bulverde. I'm pretty sure my daughter and I will be at both....that is, if she doesn't get any more sick than she's feeling tonight. I am after some load data for a 90-100gr proji with VV N320 for use in my 38 super. I'm using 5.0 of N320 with a MG 115 grain JHP bullet. You might try dropping a little below 5.0 with the lighter bullets and run them over a chrono to see how you end up. I've not shot with anything lighter than a 115gr.

Azyooper, aaronjbush12, are you guys shooting the rimfire event on Thursday? We're going to be getting to the match hotel kinda late, but are hoping to hit the warm-up range REAL early on Thursday morning before the rimfire event starts! Can't wait for tomorrow!

Yeah, same order here. There are some stages where I might be a little bit faster by starting on a different plate, but, I still shoot them the same way as I would from a holster just to be consistent.

Raymond, My 45 loves 200gr SWC's seated at 1.250" from Wilson 47T mags. It looks like you already tried that length though. My experience has been mostly with cast lead and moly coated bullets. All of them at 0.452" in diameter. Here are the things I'd check. First, take a loaded round and push the bullet against your reloading bench to attempt to shove the bullet into the case. Measure before and after pushing and see if you're getting any set back. You shouldn't! Second, have you measured a round after one successful chambering? How much, if any, bullet set back are you getting? You mentioned increasing the crimp, but crimp does not hold the bullet in the case. Neck tension does. And, while it may sound counter-intuitive, increasing crimp can actually decrease neck tension. You should crimp to ~0.469" measured at the case mouth. At least, that produced the best results in my 45. One other thing I had to adjust when working on feeding issues in my 45 was the extractor tension. Mine was WAY too tight from the factory and was causing headaches. There's tons of info on the forum about testing/tuning that so I'll not rehash here. I hope some of this helps you!

My daughter is shooting 22. I will be "borrowing" her 22 at the Steel Challenge this August when we both go to shoot the rimfire event. It's really pretty fun shooting the SC stages with the 22! I recommend giving it a try! Reliability of the rimfire ammo is critical. One misfire can be very costly and turn what should've been a good run into a horrible run! My daughter experienced that at the local match this past weekend. Mini-mags have been pretty much 100% reliable. The red Federal bulk pack from walmart is usually pretty good but we will only use it for practice from now on. We've been getting about 5 to 10 misfires per box of 550. Murphy's law dictates that at least one of those will happen in a match! The Federal Auto-Match is great stuff for the money.....IF you can find it! Almost as reliable as the mini-mags and much cheaper. Good luck if you're getting set up to shoot rimfire! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help out!

Just wanted to say thanks to M118LR and everyone else at the Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club! My daughter and I shot the Steel Challenge match today and had a fantastic time! The range is set up great, the match flowed smoothly, and everyone was extremely friendly and fun to shoot with! We'll definitely be back for future matches and anyone else in Corpus, or thinking of taking a trip down there, should try to pay them a visit for a fun match! This is a very new Steel Challenge match so let's try to get the word out and get as many folks as possible on board! Word is they've got more steel on order and are going to try and run SIX stages in the future! Thanks again guys!

Can any of the BE members from Corpus Christi, TX confirm if there is in fact going to be a steel challenge match this Sunday at the Corpus Christi Pistol & Rifle Club? I'll be down there Saturday night for a friend's wedding and was thinking of hitting the match before coming home on Sunday! Thanks!

Worked on my surender draw dry fire for about half an hour tonight. I'm not trying to push the speed too much right now. I'm more focused on makng sure I get a good grip on the gun consistently.
