  1. 7/8oz load from a 12 gauge at a given velocity, versus a 20 gauge at the same velocity, will pattern better and shoot softer. Has to do with shot cup geometry, gun weight and burn rates of 12 gauge powders versus 20 gauge powders.
  2. This is pathetic. Match is supposedly in June. Website is finally updated to reflect that (I'm assuming it's correct on the date??) but when you click on the register button it takes you to a 2014 registration page. Really sucks what's happened since USPSA took this match over....
  3. Just a point of correction, I'm 99% sure Kyle's gun is a stroked Akai with V8 ports, gill comp, 5", chambered for 38sc. That is unless he's changed since I shot with him back in February.
  4. Sorry to hear about troubles some folks had with sign up!! I did it from my Iphone and it seemed to work no problem! Got confirmation email so, I think I'm good to go! Wish I could've paid the full amount right there with credit card though! Either way, super excited to shoot this one again!
  5. Glad I'm not the only one fighting this with the dillon seater die and jhp's! Get lots of run out on the bullet if I don't place it perfectly straight on the belled brass. I'm going to move the bullet feeder die to this tool head as I think that will place the bullet on the belled brass much more consistently. Need to get another bullet feeder die so I don't have to swap between the 9mm and 38SC tool heads!
  6. Welcome! Yup, lots of shooting here in Central Texas! USPSA first Saturday of the month at ARC is next thing on the calendar. There's probably something in the area this coming weekend but don't know what off hand. Join the TXIPSC mailing list to get weekly match announcements and other notifications of all things happening in the area!
  7. That's slick Mark! I gotta start practicing that! Thanks for posting the video!!
  8. 10 feet should be fine. I use the same chrono and run everything at 10 feet; rifle, pistol and shotgun. Most likely it was the shade that was causing your issues. Let us know how it goes when you try it again.
  9. Got confirmation email that app was received! Thanks Denise! Now I just hope I make it in!
  10. I run 10.6gr in a Akai Katana...7 holes. Runs around 173pf. Work up to it though...I've heard new production lots of 3n38 are running a little faster than older ones.
  11. I'd really like to shoot this next year. Is it at all possible for someone who has never shot it before to make it into the match? Are first timers immediately wait listed? Thanks from a noob! Thomas
  12. Best primers for the $$ IMO are Cheddite. You do want to make sure you follow the recipes from the manuals. Don't sub wads/hulls/etc. there's no "working up" as in metallic loading. Pick the recipe and stick to it. Cheddite primers load the same as Winchester especially if you're not trying to run up to the max listed load. However, they are slightly oversized and once you load a hull with cheddites, all others will likely fit loose.
  13. Not sure about the thread you're referring to but I would highly recommend Akai Custom Guns. http://akaicustomguns.com/
  14. Cfe 223 is awesome with Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT's. Win748 is pretty good as well. I like to save Tac and Varget for heavier bullets. Edit to add: not that Tac and Varget aren't good for 55's! I just want to save my supply of them for heavy bullets!
  15. Try www.krtraining.com. Karl and Penny are awesome instructors and they have several classes to choose from.
  16. Love the old powder packaging! Even 1 pounders use to come in much cooler packages. I. E. metal or fiber with metal. Now they're just like everything else these days...freaking plastic.....
  17. Hoping to test with 69gr Match Kings this coming weekend.
  18. I loaded to 2.210" OAL. However, I think anywhere in the middle of the canalure would be fine. Hornady manual calls for 2.200" which completely covered the canalure in my case so I went just a bit longer. I forgot to add in my original post that the rifle is an 18" JP CTR-02.
  19. Just worked up a load with WIN748 and Hornady 55gr FMJ BT yesterday. I.) 25.5gr WIN748: High: 2976 Low: 2936 Avg: 2958 ES: 40 SD: 18 II.) 26.0gr WIN748: High: 3086 Low: 3051 Avg: 3062 ES: 35 SD: 13 I tried 25.0gr and 26.4gr (Hornady manual max) but I didn't like the ES of either of those two loads. The two above were the best ones. 5 shot group for both loads was less than 1 MOA with the 25.5gr load just a little bit tighter. Thomas
