Wow...almost a year since I updated. Not good and shooting performance shows the lack of practice. But time to refocus! Three hundred rounds of steel practice today. Not putting down any record breakng times but still learning some good stuff. I'm really able to see the response of the dot when I have too much tension in my right hand. The dot goes freaking everywhere! I'll call a miss, make it up with another miss cause the dot was basically just a vibrating blur on the plate. Might work with the big plates on accelerator but shooting it with all ten inch plates doesn't allow you to get away with that kind of stuff! Also, lack of dry fire work on my surrender draw shows BIG time! That changes tomorrow! Dry fire routine has to pick back up. A 1.3x on the first plate of roundabout just ain't good! Got 100 rounds for tomorrow so i'm off to bed!

Never heard of a rule against JHP's. All I shoot for steel are 115gr JHP's. I know lots of other shooters that shoot JHP's as well for steel. Is it maybe a club rule that they don't want people using JHP's on steel? Do they disallow JHP's on USPSA courses of fire that contain plates and/or poppers??

Hey Eric! My daughter shoots a 22/45. Not the RP model but it's the same guts I believe. She's got probably close to 4000 rounds through it and it's been a great little gun! Just last week I put a VQ trigger and sear in it along with a Clark bushing and sear pin. I did the sling shot mod as well but didn't do anything with the LCI. We haven't had any problems with the LCI so I just left it for now. I decided to go with the VQ trigger for 2 reasons. I don't know how good of reasons they were but, here they are. First, the Clark trigger claims that some fitting is required and I just wanted something drop in. Second, the Clark is a steel part whereas the VQ trigger is aluminum. I just wanted to shave a little more weight off of the trigger itself. Thought that might be good given the lighter pull. Again, not sure if that's valid or not but, there it is. The VQ trigger dropped right in with no problems at all. I'm sure the Clark trigger is a great part too and wouldn't mind comparing the two sometime down the road. I didn't replace the hammer or disconnector because they weren't in stock at the time I ordered everything. But I'm thinking I may try them next just to see if there's a difference. There's already been a huge improvement with what's been done so far. MUCH less creep and much lighter pull. Also, alot shorter reset which I think is the best part. Good luck!

Man that's a cool looking pistol!! The N320 load seems to work the comp ok in my STI Trubore. I don't know if any of the minor loads are going to work the comp to it's full potential.... My N320 load is super soft and the dot tracks really nicely. I switched to a Briley aluminum guide rod and 7 pound recoil spring today and did a little practice. It was running really well with this configuration. I like it kinda snappy and I think the lighter recoil spring really helped speed up the slide (no lighting cuts) for me. If you can get some N320, you might give it a try. For more gas though you might try 7625 or even 4756. I shot some 3n37 minor loads through a friends gun a while back. I don't remember the charge weight but you could probably use the book starting load. Only trouble with 3n37 is that it left alot of cornmeal looking stuff everywhere. N320 is much cleaner. The IMR powders are pretty darn clean too. Good luck and post your results! I may end up needing to switch powders if I run out of N320 and can't get more before August so I'd like to hear about your results!

Hey Corey! Congrats on the new rig!! How about some pics? As for powder, in 38SC I'm using ~4.9gr of N320 with a 115 MG JHP. It's a real soft shooter. I also played a little bit with 5.6gr of 7625 and the same bullet. Both loads are at 1.240" OAL. I'm not sure yet which one I like better. I know I like the price and availability of 7625 better!!

I'm shooting 5.0 of N320 with a 115 MG JHP at 1.240" OAL. With this load I can use the exact same spring setup in my STI Trubore that I use for major loads (9# standard recoil spring).

Gotta say thanks again to Robert and all of the staff and shooters who made this all possible! This was my third DTC in a row and it keeps getting better! This will definitely be one of those 'Hell, I Was There' kind of matches that we'll all talk about for a long time to come! Thanks everyone!!

I'll echo what Xre said. It's cold and snowy and everything but it's been a fun match so far. Definitely thanks to the staff for toughing it out with us through the weather!! I'm hitting the sack now and can't wait for tomorrow! It's gonna be hard to get started but it'll be fun once we get rollin'!!

Weather has changed to a high of 46 degrees on Sat. with 26 mph winds (break out the shower cap gun covers!) and a low of 31. Sundays high will be 53. Will be praying for a change again! That'll still be a good bit warmer than the temps (high AND low) on Saturday last year!! About the same in the wind department though....still hoping it'll change again as we get closer. Even 4 days out in Texas is difficult to accurately predict!

When my daughter started shooting more seriously she started with a Ruger MKIII 22/45 as well. She's really only had 2 issues with it. First, the bolt can be quite hard to rack if you've got small hands and fingers and not alot of upper body strength. Second, the magazines can be difficult to seat and you really have to give them a good push to ensure they're in all the way. Other that than, we've had no problems with the pistol. It's fed everything we've fed it from CCI mini-mags, to Federal bulk packs, to Federal Auto-Match to cheapo Winchester X-pert. The accuracy is really pretty good too for a 280 dollar pistol. It comes with a rail. If you're going to put a dot on it, stay away from the BSA sight. That was the first one we bought (30 bucks on sale from Midway) and within 2 Federal bulk packs the thing was literally falling apart. I would advise going straight for a C-more. They're considerably more expensive but will last a long time. Good luck and have fun!! It's awesome getting the kids hooked!

Corey, Just curious, what's your load with Clays? Clays was the powder I liked best in 45ACP after trying several. It smoked a bit with cast lead bullets but not so much with molys.

I'm using 9# STI recoil springs in my Trubore. I haven't had any trouble with that and change them about once a year but am probably going to switch to a different brand with my next spring purchase. ISMI, Wolff or Springco. I use ISMI magazine springs in my 140mm mags and Grams 13 coil in my 170mm mag. Getting ready to try the Grams 11-coil in one of my 140's.

Hey Doug! I'd advise a 115 grain bullet and 4.9 to 5.0 grains of N320. You've seen my pistol, it's also a Trubore, and I've never had a problem with that load. Although, I am shooting a 9# spring instead of a 10# but I bet you still don't have a problem.

My daughter has shot about 700 rounds of mini mags without a single misfire. One time the bolt did not strip a round from the mag but I think it was because the mag was not fully seated. The federal 550 bulk pack that is red in color rocks for practice ammo. No feeding issues and only 4 or 5 duds in the whole box. This has been the case for the last 4 boxes we've run through the gun. The last federal 550 pack that was blue in color was horrible!!! I mean I've shot thousands of rounds of 22s over the years but this was the worse box ever. Literally over 50 duds in one 550 bulk pack! I haven't bought the blue bx again since that one.
