Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Jacob Bynum and Rifles Only have a very strong reputation for training tactical precision rifle, as well as putting on some great competitions. They recently released the first DVD in a series that covers the fundamentals of driving a precision rifle. One of Rifles Only's main concepts is driving the rifle properly so that you can see your impacts and make your corrections, but you REALLY have to have your fundamentals down properly to accomplish this. In this video, Jacob basically shows you how to position yourself behind the rifle, load the bipod, breath, and manipulate the trigger in the most effective means possible. If you are looking to start shooting precision rifle, to brush up your skills, or just to see and try a new technique, you should check out this DVD. Also, according to their FB page, the first 200 DVDs they sell will come with a 10% off certificate to one of their Precision Rifle 1 & 2 combination courses. Check it out!
  2. Ha! Thanks Superfly! I was just about to ask that! See you guys tomorrow!
  3. I was just wondering if there was anyone from the Kingsville area that goes to the USPSA matches. I am looking to carpool up there if I can since my V8 Jeep chugs a LOT of gas just to take me and my little bit of gear to Corpus! I am hoping to make my first match with CBS this Sunday, Sept 9th, so anyone else that shoots CBS, I look forward to meeting you all there! Thanks!
  4. I just moved from Utah to South Texas (near Corpus Christi) and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any local matches around here? Thanks!
  5. I'm looking at doing some advanced handgun training. What are the best schools/instructors? I'm hoping to get a pretty sizable list so i can try out different techniques and approaches... Also, this could be a good sticky where we can keep a list for everyone else that is wondering the same thing! Thanks!
  6. Cool! Thanks! I just jumped straight to the rule book and it basically said, "we use your top 4 scores." then "Once you have a classification" and nothing in between. I'll check out hte FAQ's though. I appreciate the quick response!
  7. Hey all! I just shot my very first USPSA competition yesterday (SO much fun!) and it just happened to be an all classifiers match. That being said, I now have 5 classifier scores on file (one didn't count because of a setup issue). As I understand it from the USPSA rule book, the highest four scores will be used to classify me, but I had a pretty significant difference in my two highest to my next two highest. According to Classification Calculator my scores vs national average should be around: 53.61% 55.67% 32.23% 32.51% So essentially 2 C Class scores and 2 D Class scores. My question is, how is my initial classification determined? Do they average those scores to come up with a class rating? Or will they just pick one of the two classes based on some rule I have not yet found? Thanks all!
  8. Woohoo! Just finished my first match and it was an all qualifiers USPSA match! Wow that was fun! I suck! But it was FUN! We had about probably a 20 mph wind from behind with gusts at least into the 30s! Got some serious sandblasting... Can't wait to really get into this. Gotta go sign up for USPSA now... Looking forward to learning more and starting my journey to non-sucky shooting!
  9. Alot depends on what you want to do with your rig. You aren't just paying for glass when you get into the highest level optics. There is also the ruggedness of the scope. S&B and US Optic make scopes with great glass that are built like TANKS. If you are doing tactical matches where you are going to beat your rig up, you should spend the big money and get a scope like one of these. Nightforce has a pretty good reputation as well, so they make a good upper-medium range choice. Don't ignore used scopes either. You can get a used USO ST-10 (fixed 10x) in great shape for around $1000 if you search around for a bit. If you aren't going to beat on your gear at all, the Nightforce will DEFINITELY work for you as will a Leupy. One other word on the US Optics...their warranty is amazing. Basically, if says "US Optics" on it, they will fix it. No questions asked. Then there are questions about ranging and such that will determine if you need first focal plane or second focal plane and what type of reticle you want. Turret options as well...Once again, USO allows you to seriously customize your scope if you order it new from them.
  10. Thanks! I'll try to make the next Saturday match! I know there is a ton of shooting around here, but finding all the different organizations is tough! Much obliged for the help!
  11. Hey all! I have been shooting long range precision for a few years with a little bit of pistol and carbine thrown in, but I've recently decided to start working more on my handgun skills. Ran across this forum and liked what I saw! Looks like there are a lot of good shooters with a ton of good info to share! Look forward to learning a lot here! Also, if anyone knows some good pistol competitions in the Salt Lake area, I'd love to start meeting people and competing! Currently, I've only done the Bountiful bowling pin shoots on Tuesday night. I'm looking for more tactical competitions. Also wouldn't mind multi-gun... Thanks!
