  1. If someone else was paying for the brass, and I never had to pick any up...38sc would be my choice. I have 2 9mm guns and a set of mags that are 100% but it took a bit more effort to get there than when the same 2 guns were 38 sc. There are more powder choices for 38 sc (though if kgunz successes in getting sp2 into the country that part of my argument would go away ). So will I ever go back to 38 sc? No, not unless the cost of once fired 9mm goes through the roof...
  2. The sliding sleeve allows the die to align the bullet with the case before it is seated. I don't like them as well as redding but they work well. I use them for calibers I can't justify spending for redding.
  3. That isn't someplace I'd want loctite... In fact I usually use anti-sieze compound on the threads between the upper and the barrel nut to prevent galling. Otherwise getting the barrel nut off come time to rebarrel can be a real chore... At 15k rounds likely the barrel is worn out.
  4. Poo man, i hate to sound like a jackass, but i'm looking at the para and wondering what problem does it solve that can't be addressed by running a traditional direct impingement gun and keeping it lubed? sure, if i had the cash i'd pick up one of everything new just to have it (because it is cool to own lots of rifles). unfortunately, i don't so i'm really looking to understand what are the improvements in function that you get from these guns (the para with it's funky foot long carrier key & spring assembly, or even the more "normal looking" piston systems from patriot arms or LWRC)? best i can see is reduction in cleaning & maintenance (for the piston guns), which i would agree is a good thing. on the other hand, you really don't have to invest much effort cleaning your DI gun (unless you're being held to a traditional corps standard of being able to eat off of your bolt carrier, which is a different problem) Only benefit I can see to the Para is the folding stock - ok, maybe that's enough to sell it. personally i'd rather have something lighter with standard parts (so I can swap when/if needed) and without the requirement for extra clearance along the top. not flaming anyone who likes piston guns or trying to promote the traditional direct impingement kool aid, but genuinely interested in understanding what other benefits there might be from some of these systems that I'm just not understanding. I think the problem al was trying to solve was a semi-auto ar pistol without a buffer tube he could use for the long range portion of the Masters match.
  5. You might also try a pm to stefan. I believe he still runs an extrema...
  6. If you want to keep it cooler sitting in the sun you can always paint it a light color...
  7. Like Benny says... get the clark carbon fiber tube. It is cheap, lite, and works quite well. I have them on several rifles and have never had a problem with them.
  8. Yep works for me as well. Thanks for all your work in getting this fixed.
  9. Currently, there isn't. Which is why I'm wondering, from posts in this thread, if each cell phone / device / browser has its own setting to turn that on or off. be Not an IP board guy but I was doing a bit of googling and found this: http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/documentation/index.html/_/tutorials/advanced-customisations/locking-skins-to-browsers-or-search-engines-r163 It talks about how to control what skin different browsers get. Maybe that could help?
  10. So when a browser connects to a webserver it indicates what kind of web browser it is. Many websites then serve a specific version based on that user agent string. Is there a setting to not push a particular skin and let it default for that particular user agent. Thanks for being willing to work on this, I appreciate it.
  11. I don't seem to have that option in my browser... I'll keep looking I guess.
  12. I am having the same problem with my samsung captivate. (Android 2.1).
  13. Great pictures. What camera did you use?
  14. Based on the information that you have given on your gun, scope, and mount (should give an hob in the neighborhood of 2.4") and assuming standard 55 gr ball (XM193 or equiv) should make about 3100-3050fps out of an 17" barrel (depending on the barrel and the exact ammo). Plug that into a calculator: http://www.hornady.com/cgi-bin/ball10.cgi?firearm=Rifle&desc=&wght=55&coef=.243&vel=3050&sight=2.4&temp=59&barom=29.53&zero=50&wspd=0&calcbutton=Calculate And you get a 50 yard zero puting you dead on between 200-225 yards... Having said that, the best thing for you to do is to chrono your load and plug the data + the information about the rifle into a calculator... generate the drop chart and then go confirm it...
  15. For the dryfire part of sight tracking a blowback style airsoft gun can work (you can modify the slide stop on most of them so they don't lock back so you can practice without even having to deal with the pellets).
  16. Hmm sounds like summer in the South to me boz... (And yes, I hate it too).
  17. If you have a light trigger with minimal over travel this can easily happen.
  18. I think that heavy bullet disease may only be a North Alabama thing... In Central Alabama bulk 55gr Hornadys seem to fly just fine...
  19. Just as an fyi the Steel City match had 1 stage with shots out to 300, one stage with shots on small steel beyond 100 yards with a cool visual start, and another stage with shots around 100 combined in the same stage with targets from 5 yards to 50 yards... As others have noted there is definite demand for this sort of match since we regularly sell out both days of this match. As an aside one of the cool thing we have seen in running this match is the number of folks who are not normaly competitive shooters that come out to shoot this match. It seems to do a good job of drawing folks who aren't normaly involved.
  20. Theoreticaly they can be tuned not to need them, however I have had much better luck using spacers. I like metal spacers, either the H. Smith or Joey Hardy ones avaliable from Shooter's Connection (not sure if Chuck will ship to Spain though) with a Grams spring and follower (I think they are FSK 13 or 11). The plastic spacers seem to work ok but the mags set up that way seem to be a bit stickier to me, not quite as smooth as with the mags set up with the metal spacers.
  21. Mine is just fine as it is... The sights are ok and seem to send the bullets to point of aim with the ammo I use (atlanta arms and ammo 147 subsonic) We tried installing an apex sear in mine but I took it out because in my gun it didn't make enough difference to be a worthwhile mod since the trigger in mine was already pretty good. (On the other hand one of my amigos put that same sear in his pro and it was a useful improvement so depending on how your trigger was to start with ymmv).
  22. Shame on you Mark.. Trying to back over the poor RO you might have hurt him
  23. You didn't say whether you wanted to shoot open or limited? As my name implies I like Caspians But there are a couple of things you should be aware of before going down this road. Some of the parts (thumb safeties, grip saftey, mag catch, mainspring housing, trigger, extended magwell...) are specific to the caspian platform. The up side of that is that all of that (except for the magwell) usually comes with the frame when you order it. The downside is that means that the avaliability of aftermarket replacments for these parts is limited (EGW for sure makes extended triggers and the only magwell I know of) so there are less choices there and if you don't like the way the part you can get works or looks you'll have to modify it. The only drawback in open is that there isn't currently an out of the box 170mm mag avaliable. The solution for that is to get someone like Jim Anglin(sp?) to weld 2 mags together to create a 170. For someone like me with smaller hands, the grip fits perfectly and is much easier for me to shoot than an polymer S/I platform. Like someone said above try both and see what you like. (As to the weight issue someone above mentioned caspian does make a version of their high cap frame in titanium. As soon as I can get the time to find a smith who will do it I intend to have an open gun built on the titanium frame burried in my safe)
  24. +1 to the above comment about a stable bench. Most of the trouble I see people having with 650s not seating primers as deeply as they would like go back to 1 of 2 issues. Either: 1.) The bench isn't stable or stiff enough and so the press feels like it is moving before the primer is fully seated so you stop pushing. Does the whole bench move or rock when you seat a primer? If so then bolt it to something or brace it if it is flexing... 2.) When you changed the shell plate you didn't get the bolt that holds it into the press tightened down enough so there is vertical play in the assembly. So when you go to seat a primer the shell plate rocks keeping you from fully seating the primer. To check for this push down on the shell plate if there is any vertical play tighten the bolt down until there isn't and losen it just enough to let the shell plate rotate freely.
