Jman
The movie that "impacted" me the most? Just before my 13th birthday in 1968 I saw The Planet of the Apes. A lot of great films have come along since then, but nothing will smack me long side the head like the statue of liberty did. Jim
revchuck
Good picks in Field of Dreams and Saving Private Ryan. Both were unapologetic "guy" endings. My own addition is Casablanca. Sparse, incredibly well-acted, and so 40s.
mcb
How about Sci-Fi, not my favorite Sci-Fi movie (that's Aliens) but certainly one of the better endings: Predator II
Nemo
+1 to Usual Suspects. Amazing!! I also liked the end of Boondock Saints in the courtroom (from IMDB) [Fire alarm goes off, all three cock their weapons, II Duce jumps behind Yakavetta and puts his shotgun to his head. Connor and Murphy jump onto tables] Connor: Now you will receive us. Murphy: We do not ask for your poor, or your hungry. Connor: We do not want your tired and sick. Murphy: It is your corrupt we claim. Connor: It is your evil that will be sought by us. Murphy: With every breath we shall hunt them down. Connor: Each day, we will spill their blood till it rains down from the skies. Murphy: Do not kill, do not rape, do not steal, these are principles that every man of every faith can embrace. Connor: These are not polite suggestions, these are codes of behavior and those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost. Murphy: There are varying degrees of evil, we urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over, into true corruption, into our domain. Connor: For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three. And on that day, you will reap it. Murphy: And we will send you to whatever god you wish. ChrisStock
I'm surprised a bit that no one else has mentioned it, but....The Usual Suspects Also... I liked The Sixth Sense last bits, the way things fell together... I was going to put The Usual Suspects myself, and thought I'd better read through before I posted. One of the best screw your head on backwards endings that I have ever seen.
ErikW
Body Heat where the guy realizes his lover set him up as a murderer and she faked her own death.
San_Esteban
Great choices. Some of my favorites have been mentioned; Inside Man, Body Heat and Wild Things. At our house we call this Genre "The Smartest Person Wins". Another on this list is The Last Seduction with Linda Fiorentino as an Amoral herione who will do anything to get ahead. Fascinatiing to see what she'll do next. Later, Steve

Jake Di Vita
Basic had a pretty sweet ending. I'd say for most surprising and enticing, the 2nd Pirates of the Carribean. I would have walked outside and bought a ticket for 3 right then and there if it had been out.
North
Come on sports fans, "Rudy" the little guy gets his butt kicked for four years and finally gets to play for the last 2 plays. Carmoney
I guess I like surprise endings..... Planet of the Apes has a great twist at the end, but that one's already been taken. How abou The Game with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn?

cr10x
+1 on Rudy (forgot about that one). Ruuudy....Ruuudy...Ruuudy. Along the same lines, Tin Cup. Having sent more than my share of balls to the bottom of the lake, just because I knew I could make that shot. And that great speach (poem) at the beginning about the golf swing. Kinda applies to shooting as well. The first thing you gotta learn about this game, Doc, is it ain't about hitting a little white ball into some yonder hole. It's about inner demons and self-doubt and human frailty and overcoming all that crap. And the other accepted theory... Grip it and rip it. Doublehaul
Ronin... the alternate ending. Can't believe it never made it into theaters. "What's in the case?" Rule # 1 Don't walk into any place you don't know how to walk out of. Rule # 2 Whenever there is doubt... there is not doubt. Rule # 3 Who taught me?... I don't remember.
