  1. I just realized the 2018 Revolver National Match has not happened yet. I had assumed it was early in the year as it has been in the past. The Revolver Nationals is back with the other nationals all to take place in October as one big match. I did not realize you could see old issue of Front Sight online that is pretty cool, thanks! I did find the 2017 equipment survey in the 2018 Annual: https://uspsa.org/magazine/view//2018-00#page=40
  2. Can someone point me to this? My Google-fu is letting me down. Thanks.
  3. The biggest reason I don't shoot my 625 in IDPA is IDPA made 5-inch barrel revolvers illegal so rather than pay to cut it down or buy another 625 I just picked up a used $300 Model 10 to embarrass the bottom feeders with. I find my splits to be faster with minor vs major in either IDPA or USPSA. Especially on close in hoser stages. My standing reloads are only slightly faster with moonclips. My running reloads are much faster with moonclips fed revolvers but IDPA limits movement so much it does not seem to effect me that much. I have only attempted a reload with retention a few times in a match. It rarely goes well for me, never as good as when I practice it in the basement. But I have never been to a match that required it. Per the rules, can a stage force you to do a reload with retention on the clock? I didn't think so, but can't find a rule supporting or disproving that assumption. I definitely agree that moonclips are far more fumble/disaster prone than speed-loaders but my Comp III's have been pretty good to me so far.
  4. They are the new OEM K/L frame grips some new S&W are coming with. IIRC those came off a 617. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. Love moonclip fed revolvers but for IDPA I just run and old Model 10 Heavy barrel and Comp III speed loaders. With the bunny fart 105 PF, no more than two reloads on a stage (assuming you're not missing ) and the use of cover I don't see that a moonclip fed 155PF revolver as much of an advantage.
  6. Interesting I was at shot and met Steve but did not see anyone else in his both. I need another one of his cylinder releases to set up another N-frame but can't find one in stock anywhere.
  7. Need to order another California Competition cylinder release but it seems no one has one in stock and demooner.com seems to be gone/down. Anyone know what happened?
  8. Dang, I was hoping there might be another option. Life's hard I will get over it. Thanks!
  9. My RO Certification expired a bit over a year ago. I was changing jobs and states and in all the activity total missed and then forgot about my exam. This year rolls around and I realize I never got a notice to take the test and I look up my profile and WOW I am over a year past due. Totally my fault but is there anything I can do? I assume I will have to attend a RO class again to get re-certified? Is there any other way?
  10. What about those that like to do it the hard way? So yeah the trigger will probably never be as nice as a good Smith but think about how soft the recoil will be with 38 Short Colt minor load in the humongous cast framed revolver.
  11. What are the chances my 627 moonclips will work with this new Ruger? That would make this slightly more tempting.
  12. Revolver is dead in IDPA. I was the only one a few weeks ago and look back at that club (new to me) there has been only one other revolver shooter there in the last year or so. Let the 8-shot revolvers play in one of the other divisions.
  13. I see that Speed Beez is now offering moon clips on their website. (http://www.speedbeez.com/product-category/competition-revoler-supply-moon-clips/) Does anyone know if these are a new design that they are manufacturing or are they simply selling someone else moon clips? Prices seem similar to Revolver Supply on the few version I compared. From the pictures they appear to be stamped rather than EDM moonclips. Options are always good.
  14. After getting my Webley I started looking for a bullet to replicate the old Mk I load with. Some guys over at castboolits forum pointed me to Matt's Bullets (http://mattsbullets.com/) He offers four bullets specifically sized for the 38S&W and one of them is a replica of the 200gr hemispherical nose bullet used in the Mk I load.
  15. Got it. I took my #2 shell plate (38/357) and took 7-8 light passes with a 3/8 inch stone wheel in my Dremel and then a quick polish with a small felt wheel and polishing compound to remove the burs and the 38 S&W cases fit in very nicely.
  16. Thanks! I spoke with someone Dillon on the phone about the time you posted and they shared similar information. My current brass is Magtech and PPU. I will have to carefully measure my brass and try to decide weather order the #A shell plate or the #2 shell plate. If need be I will glue some emery cloth around a 3/8 dowel pin and open up the part of the shell plate, that goes around the body of the case, enough to accept my cases. Everything about trying to replicate the 38/200 load has been tough but it's fun none the less. Thanks again for the info!
  17. Yeah they are not that much different, and when I was getting everything ready I just assumed the 38/357 shell plate was going to work right up to the point where is did not. I have loaded a bunch of 38 Short Colt on my 650 but Short Colt is just a short 38 Special. 38S&W although nearly identical rim is just a touch bigger in the body, just enough to cause problems apparently Yeah I sent Dillon and email last night. It was too late to call there tech support line by the time I figured it out last night. I will call this morning once they open up. Thought I would see if anyone has already figured it out. Thanks.
  18. I am getting ready to reload some 38/200 loads from my Webley Mark IV. I have all the components and I thought I had all the parts I needed for my press, except I found that 38S&W will not fit in the 38 Special / 357 Mag shell plate. The rims are the same diameter and similar thickness but the slightly larger diameter case body is keeping them from seating into the shell plate. Dillon does not list 38S&W for the XL650 (although they do for the 550). Has anyone had any experience reloading 38S&W on a Dillon 650? Specifically what shell plate did you use? I figure worst case I will order a spare 38/357 and carefully open up the part that goes around the body of the case.

I would ask again why is this a problem? Why can't 380 ACP required most competitor to reload to use it? There are many other option if you want to shoot BUG and can't or don't want to reload. Why is it a problem to have a division with legal cartridge that does not make PF with most cheap commercial ammunition for that cartridge? From the rulebook... "The IDPA competition format was designed to be enjoyable for all shooters of all skill levels, with a premium put on the social interaction and camaraderie of the members. Participation in IDPA matches requires the use of handguns, holsters and other equipment suitable for concealed carry self-defense. With that in mind, and keeping the shooters' best interests in mind, IDPA's founders established equipment requirements that are based on commonly available firearms and gear, allowing individuals the opportunity to compete with minimal investment." If 380 ACP was the only caliber legal in BUG you might have a point but there are tons of other cartridges that are BUG legal and can make power factor easily with cheap commercial ammunition. IMHO allowing a particular cartridge (380ACP in this case) to be legal in a division (BUG) even though it required hand-loads or bouquet loads to make power-factor does not violate those founding principal so long as there are lots of other options.

But 380 ACP with heavier bullets should be able to make the 95 PF while remaining within SAAMI. Hodgdon's online data list 11 loads for a 100gr FMJ bullet. Only one of those loads (from a 3.75 inch test barrel,0.15 longer than bug allows) would make PF at 95.5. The part that puzzles me is that 95.5PF load is the only load that is any where close to SAAMI max pressure. SAAMI max pressure for 380 ACP is 21,500 psi. The load that makes 95.5 PF is at 19,800 PSI. All the rest of the loads make between 84 and 93 PF but are at or below 16,000 psi. That is 5,500PSI (25%) or more below max pressure for the cartridge. Why are so many of these loads so conservative? Looking through all of Hodgdon online data show that nearly all the 380 ACP load data they give is at roughly 16,000 psi or less. None of the few loads that are above 16,000 psi exceeds 20,000psi. So if you willing to work with it I think reloaded 380 ACP could make the PF with an acceptable margin over the required 95 PF while still staying under SAAMI but you're going to have to work it up yourself. Switching to lead bullet would also probably help keep pressures down while allowing you to safely bring the PF up. Does a cartridge have to be able to make PF with cheap commercial ammunition? What is wrong with allowing 380 ACP to be used in BUG knowing the only some competitors will put for the extra effort to make it work? Where does this unwritten, "cheap commercial ammo must makes power factor", requirement come from? There are plenty of other BUG legal calibers that will make power factor with commercial ammunition so it not like we are requiring all BUG competitors to reload. Why does the power factor have to be reduced for 380 ACP OR 380 ACP eliminated. Why not let it remain legal knowing only hard core dedicated 380 ACP lovers are going to be able to make it work?
