Well,I don't care what Jim says, here are some non-topic facts. We just had a Rolling Stones concert in Missoula with 20K plus people at the concert. They all drove and flew here without any issues. We have 1620 available motel/hotel rooms in Missoula;most nice, some crappy. If you drive like Bruce Gary, the range is 10 minutes. If you drive like your in Montana,it's 5 minutes. There are 2 breweries in town. One has a tasting room with FREE beer, the other has big glasses of inexpensive beer.We have 2 strip joints for those that are interested. One is very nice, the other is very not nice.We have more places to get a good steak here than in Tulsa.I've been the many times,I know. And jim, unlike the Peoples Republic of New Jersey,we like guns here,we let you carry them in the open everywhere and concealed most places. The airport lands BIG planes all day and is 1/2 mile from the brewery for those of you that are real thirsty.Well Jim,there's your personal invitation.C'mon out.I'll even drive you around so you don't get lost in the wide open spaces.

Bubba

For the record,

I am not against going to Montana. In fact it is a place I'd very much like to visit. I am not against the Range in or the town of Missoula. I am not against good beer, good steak or even a good strip club.

What I have been stressing is that until we know where and when the Nationals will be held, the rest of this is just idle chatter.

I have written to the Prez. I have spoken out here. Some members of the BOD have heard and responded. I understand that Mike is the man we need to reach.

Idle chatter about the attributes of Tulsa, Missoula, Pasa, or other venues is secondary. I was hoping to get a preasure wave started and directed towards Mike to announce early the dates and locations of the Nationals.

THIS JUST IN!!!!

The National divisions and dates will be published on the USPSA website as soon as they are finalized. This should be in the next week or two.

I understand everyone’s desire to have dates as early as possible, but I want to have them as solid as humanly possible to avoid any changes in plans for all of us.

Thank you Michael!

Way to go Jim, and many thanks to Mike and Headquarters staff for working so diligently on ironing out the dates and whereabouts in a timely manner. It is good to see they listen to the wishes of the membership and try their best to oblige.

Again huh. I guess that is the format that BOD likes, cant say I agree, but oh well. I thought the first format worked well. Plus, being in Missoula is going to double (if I book right now) the airfare to Tulsa. I didnt book the Tulsa flight until 2 months before.

Will be nice to get dates though, might not matter this year.

Is the range in Missoula or outside and if outside of Missoula, which direction and how far?

Thanks,

Why not all the 10 round and under Divisions at the same match? All the Hi-Caps at the other. Just musing, I know the answers.

Might even try to get to one this year. Need something to look forward to next year :( .

I think it makes perfect sense to combine Limited and L-10. What other way can L-10 be made to look unpopular but by combining it with Limited?

Never requiring a certain provisional division to stand on it's own, in conjunction with screwing over L-10 at the Nats for 2 years is about all that can be done to trash an excellent division.

Who could possibly argue that the members of USPSA actually benefit from such a combination? Is there something wrong with being able to shoot at 2 Nationals with the same equipment AND the best shooters duking it out?

My tinfoil hat might be on too tight, but I sure as hell know who is responsible. Time for a change in management.

Truthfully, I would like to see one big run what you brung. About 24 stages, 4 full shooting days. Shoot 8-1230 and 130 to 6. Run Monday noon till Friday noon. Awards Friday night.

We'd have around 480 possible slots. Squad size would be 10 per squad.

Likely however is that this won't happen again. The sponsors that have their shooter in multiple divisoins will likely want their shooter to shoot at least two divisions. So Open backs to Production and Lim-10 backs to Limited. Look at the cross-over shooter list. Dave S., Todd J., TGO and a few others all shoot Limited/Production. I am sure that their are a few others that cross this way or Limited/Open. So I see this as the likely split for the near future.

Maybe someday we will have enough interest to have three Nationals. Limted/Limited-10/Revolver Open and then Production. Single Stack seems to fit into the Single Stack Classic already so we sdon't need to mess with that yet.

Still need the dates. I have a calendar to set for my business.

I agree, I wouldnt mind a run what you brung. Then again, if you put Lim/Open together and Prod/Lim10 together and Rev/SS together, they can design course w/ everyone having about the same number of rounds.

Whatever, getting too late and not thinking straight.

I certainly agree with getting things nailed down as much as possible before announcing. Those involved with the MG Nats this year can testify to the hardships moving it from Bend to Albany made.

More and more of us are finding scheduling vacation time to be increasingly difficult. For instance, I used to be able to take a week off with 48 hours notice. Now I can take one day with 48 hours notice. A week requires a month's notice and is entirely dependant upon how many others have also requested this week. Not a problem in October but a major issue in June - August. The only way for me to guarantee I can have a week off is to get the request in 4 to 6 months in advance. I know many have even tighter restrictions.

That being said, it is all a management issue. Management has to determine that it is in everyone's best interest to announce next year's venue and dates no later than the award's ceremony at this year's match. Period.

We know that many of the theoretical candidates to the throne, including MV, read this list.

I therefore challenge any and all candidates to include as a plank in their platform for the 2007 election the afore mentioned concept.

I therefore also challenge all USPSA members to refuse to vote for any candidate that does not include this concept as a plank regardless of their other qualifications. Emails, personal conversations and phone calls to the candidates (when formally announced) should be sent by all concerned USPSA members stressing how important this issue is to us. We should also stress that they will be held accountable if they promise things that are not delivered.

Well said!

I will make it a point to follow through on this suggestion. I urge everyone else here to also do this. That said, I don't think that not announcing the dates and venues is the plan, i htink that it is simply that getting this accomplished is the difference between turning a speed boat and a battleship. We have not had this as a criteria and to get everyone on board to make it happen is not, sadly, an easy undertaking.

We need the President to buy in, the board to buy in and after that, we need the host venues to buy into holding hte match at least one full year in advance. I think that awarding a contract with a likelyhood of multiple years might induce some clubs/ranges to step up. It might also turn others away. I think we need to be open here to single year and multi year contracts depending upon the venue. Keep in mind that a club may change leadership on an annual basis and that can impact us either in a positive or negative manner.

All in all, Kimel has a good idea. We should demand this a commitment from our future and present leadership.

Kevin,

a lovely concept to be sure ----- but just look at what happened with the Multi-gun and the Area 8 matches this year. I can't speak to the multi-gun --- I read something about reasons for the change, but really don't recall exactly what happened. As to the Area 8, no clubs had stepped forward as interested parties by the end of last year's match. It took until February of this year or so to nail down. It's entirely possible that we could have such a problem with Nationals venues a year from now, five years from now, or a decade from now. Seems unimaginable, given that we just had a successful opening at USSA in Tulsa, given that we've had successful matches at PASA park for a long time ---- but what happens if one or both of these facilities were to be forced to close down? The answer obviously is not to put all our eggs in the established baskets, and to continue to develop new locations for the Nationals ---- but that specifically takes time and effort.

Scheduling a Nationals, and nailing down the contract, and then actually putting the match on the ground strikes me as probably being as complicated a venture as selling a house and buying another. The good news is we're pretty experienced at doing so ---- but it's still a lot of work, and that work will take time.

Is USPSA doing this as quickly and efficiently as possible? Are there ways to do it better? Perhaps ----- but I don't know enough about the process to begin to suggest improvements.

Bottom line --- I don't think anyone can expect to micro manage the Board of Directors after they've been elected, because frankly most of us will never fully understand all the nuances of all the issues involved unless we're elected to the board. As far as not being willing to vote for candidates who won't adopt this as a plank ---- how much choice have you had in elections? I've voted in a couple ---- I think there was a write-in candidate in the first, and 1 candidate on the ballot, with no one running a write-in campaign in the second. It appears to be tough for us to find a few good people to become candidates.....

For those of you asking about where the range is located with reference to Missoula go to Big Sky Practical Shooting Club & on the left side click on range map. The airport is located near the west edge of the top map & the bottom map shows the range referenced to town.

Speed limit is no longer "reason & proper" but is 75 on the interstate & as marked on other roads.

Not previously mentioned but almost every bar is also a casino with video gaming machines and the Indian Reservation at Browning has a new Las Vagas style casino.

Glacier National Park is 150 miles north. Yellowstone National Park is 250 miles south. Lewis & Clark Caverns is on the way to to Yellowstone.

If you are driving in from the east Missoula is 458 miles from the Wyoming border or 606 miles from the North Dakota border.

Montana does not allow concealed carry in any bar but has a long list of states with reciprocal agreements however guns are not allowed in National Parks.

I hope the rumors are right and that I can see lots of you in the near future.

WOW, I was hoping to maybe make my first Nationals trip next year. With it being in Montana, probably not.

Oh well, lets see where it is in 2008..............

Not that I have anything against Missoula. I grew up in North Dakota and think that Flat Head Lake is one of the most beautiful places in the world. But, not sure I can travel 2000 miles for a match.

Hopefully Open Nats will be back near Omaha or Barry in 2008.
