I have never complained about not being better because I couldn't afford to shoot. I am just pointing out that the amount a person can spend on the sport is dependent on their socio-economic status. Well said. I was surprised that more women didnt comment on the original post. Guess I just answered my own question that I posted a while back about why a women's forum is neccessary. I didn't respond to Chris' comments because I thought his remark fell into the "men can't help but notice women" realm. In which case, it's more of a bash on men than women. Nothing to complain there about for me.... As for: I feel you Eric^^ I assumed he was doing a cyber grope...^^...or would that be (*)(*)...?? But Athena nailed it with the descriptor "moobs." Recently, I was asked if I was B Class... in Ladies Division... it took every ounce of self-control for me to find the humor in his ignorance. I take it you weren't personally satisfied being a GM in Junior Division. Although recognized, aiming for High Lady or High Junior is a self-limiting goal. 2) a way, however uncouth, of provoking discussion about the apparently disproportionate media coverage and sponsorship among males and females. To me, your "breast" comment appeared to be bitter and incendiary. Having said that, I can't agree that having breasts would help you in particular... but I do agree that, in proportion to the males in the sport, more females receive assistance. Do I think that sponsored females work harder than their non-sponsored male counterparts? No. Do I discredit the females efforts? Absolutely not. Sponsored shooters, male or female, are representatives of the companies that support them. I'm sure they are chosen for their qualities and assets to the sport which will lead to betterment of the business. A great shooter once told me... "It's not what your sponsors can do for you... it's what you can do for your sponsors." I think that there are certain things or (dis)advantages that just "are". High walls for tall shooters and low ports for short shooters... you can't make it equal... it's not fair or unfair, good or bad,... it just is. We'll never really solve the inequalities of this "sport" as long as the majority of the world sees it simply as a "game" people play with guns. If the general population can't relate, you won't have fans (or even as many competitors) and you won't have the funds to support the best. Just not currently viable. Sponsoring a lot of people to advertise to such a small market isn't great business sense.... There is a false assumption here. Sponsoring has never been about who is the best. The goal of sponsoring is to sell more product. It is about putting a product name on an individual who gets the most attention/airtime. I walked by shooter after shooter at the Nationals. I saw TGO at Wendys, but couldn't tell you what the other super squad members even look like. However.....everyone in my squad stopped when we passed the women's squad and yeah, I distinctly remember a Smith and Wesson shirt. Other women look at the sponsored one and at least ask about the products she's using. Best case, and usually, they will buy the product. As for the effect on men, well... Since I am working registration, I only know a shooter is sponsored when I get the names and applications directly from the sponsor, because they are a match or stage sponsor. They provide support for the match and send me the names of the shooters they want to represent them at the match. Some shooters pay the fees and then get receipts to get reimbursed from their sponsor. For example, all the military shooters pay the fee and get a receipt. They take time off, called Ordinary Leave, to come shoot. They pay their own way, match fees and all. Some put in for what's called Permissive TDY, essentially free time off, but they still pay all expenses. The Army Marksmanship Unit is probably the only military organization that sends its members Temporary Duty (TDY) for a match and pays expenses. The Army can do this because the AMU is a recruiting tool. Lee Dimiculangan can tell you how effective they are at it, too. The Air Force has a Shooting Team, but to my understanding, these are regular AF members who get some of their expenses reimbursed. You'd have to ask Roger Sherman about that. You put your product name on the folks that are going to get it in the face of the target market your looking to hit.. In our sport, that happens to be men.. as unfair as that is..
