Here are a few photos of what I have done with adding a bottom rail/ heat shield and drilling holes in the top of the hand guard to dissipate the heat.

Also the gl shock absorbing stock that I modded just a little to gain about a total of 1 inch of travel, just a little longer than the stock setup.

Been working on my trigger to get it smoother but afraid to go to much more till a new hammer arrives. got in down to about 5 pounds so far but its still still but smooth, link I am going to have to mess with some springs a little.

Will ar15 anti walk pins work in the vr80 or is there anybody who makes them yet?  I would much rather have that setup as the splined hammer pin that I an sure will wear out some over time.

What grip is that?

Theres a bit of space between the top of my grip and the reciever on mine

If anybody has any factory parts from a vr80 like fcg and safety's they want to sell give me a yell. I want to see how good of a trigger I can get with factory parts and need a few extra encase I go to far lol.

I dont see those parts available from ria yet.

 using… Walmart federal 1200 fps

1 oz (525 Power Factor)

or

1⅛ oz (590 PF)

btw;

  1 oz  1145fps - 500 PF

1⅛ oz 1145fps - 564 PF

Mine has run at 535PF.. I think. Hotter is more of a sure thing and easy enough to not care ...but I think I'll load up some

1⅛ oz 1100fps - 541 PF and see how they run.

New here long time lurker. this is the best forum I could find on the vr80. Hopefully some one can help me out a little. I got mine Saturday did the clean and lube and have run a variety of shells through it(over 300 now). It will not cycle lower velocity stuff to save its life. It will run 1 1/8th 1300 fps aa's fairly reliable and some hot hand loads anything else it's a single shot. I couldn't find any high velocity 3"shells in my area. Should I try that and start over with brake in?  Ive made sure the gas ports are clean and have stripped and cleaned the gun some where in between the 300 rounds.  Im contemplating getting the taccom buffer assembly but don't want to keep throwing money at it guessing. End goal would be to be able to run the lower velocity stuff reliably Thanks in advance for any help!

Well it looks like you should be withen the break in period that armscor sent me last week. They had a old break I'm that said at least 500 rounds of 2 3/4 , 3 dram shotshell with a minimum of 1250 fps with 1 1/8 oz shot.

You still on the factory recoil spring? If so back out the buffer tube about 3 turns.
I hope someone will chime in and offer more help, a armscor told me to use the heavy gas piston and shoot about 200 high brass before trying light loads and right now I've got about 100 rounds of single shots threw mine. They didn't send me a heavy gas piston yet lol.

I went through way more than 500 rounds before 1⅛/1200 were consistent. Even at that some brands didn't run 100%. I have the Taccom Buffer in mine. I think I ran lighter loads without it.  I may test it again with and without. Cocking the gun requires a little more of tug at the end to either load one in or lock it open. While you get used to it and expect it, if you lend the gun to someone else they'll end up fidgeting with it and not quite catching a load or being able to get it locked all the way back. Without the buffer I could easily pull the bolt back on the left and flick the lock with one finger. This was convenient for quickly making safe and grabbing my chamber flag that slid on/off the rail. However slapping the bolt release is cleaner with the bolt on the right anyway.

btw. Target or Academy will send you individual boxes of different ammo if you want to try a range of loads.  These get cheaper when they do their seasonal rebate AA12 Black Box 1145fps/1⅛
