zhunter
OK, let me start by qualifying this as a Limited gun, being I am a limited shooter. Others my want to start similar threads for other classes. MONEY is not an issue, let's hear who would build it? What would they build it out of, i.e. frame/slide? What components, i.e. trigger, extractor, safety, mag button, magwell, sights, barrel, grip etc...? What finish would you have? Be creative, but make it not just a cool factor, but a gun you would want to shoot in competition, and remember, sometimes the K.I.S.S. system is best! Have fun!!!! Matt Cheely
My dream limited gun would come in a box containing a life sized pop up TGO who would proceed to shoot it for me and kick everyone's butt I really like Bedell's Limited Guns. XRe
If I had to guess.... - STI frame, long dust cover - custom serial REGUN1 46&2 (if ampersands are allowed??) - Caspian full profile slide - Bar-Sto .40 barrel - Bo-Mars, "stepped" profile front sight - EE internals, 24oz trigger - Swensons (don't care if you don't like 'em - when done right, I do ), contoured for my hands - appropriate lightening cuts to slide and to frame - 5-side, serrate top, french cut slide, plus additional lightening to slide, hog out the inside of the dust cover, maybe some attractive ball end mill cuts on the outside, etc - I like a light-ish pistol, but like the full dust cover look. - Maybe a RecoilMaster - haven't played w/ one yet, though. - Dawson magwell (for USPSA) & STI mag well (for IPSC) - under cut trigger guard for strong hand - serrate underside of trigger guard - contour grip - TruGrip - AFTEC - Limcat firing pin & ejector - some sort of extended mag release, plus some grip build up, ala TT, to prevent weak had from punching the mag release - off to Tripp for a two-tone, chrome frame, spray black slide - 6+ Grams tuned mags - 100,000 rounds ammo If I had my druthers, I'd have Rusty Kidd build it (partly for nostalgia, partly cause the man builds exceptional guns, and partly cause it's funny to say "I shoot a Rusty gun" ). However, I would be perfectly comfortable with Dan Bedell, Benny Hill, Bob Hostetter, George Smith, JL Hardy, etc, building my gun. All of you guys deliver great service to this forum, and you all seem to build high quality product!! I think my money would be well spent in any of your shops... dirtypool40
I'd have to go with: Derek at Millenium, Dan Bedell, or the artistic Savante, Neil Wiggans, in no praticular order. OK, so I haven't used Neil in a while for delivery time reasons, but he does do unbelievable work. The other two guys build great looking functional guns, but they will also DO WHAT YOU WANT, not just sell you their current package gun. A lot of the 'smiths listed are package 'smiths. I'd mix and match S_I parts to get what I wanted. Short DC. BARSTO, AET, KKM or STI barrel, again in no particular order. Accu-lok reverse plug if I went bull. EGW bushing for skinny barrel. Tungsten gr if I wanted more weight. Brown safeties. Koenig hammuh. Scott grip. EGW or Ice magwell (not a standard gun) .090 fo front for Bomar, .100 for Heinie. I'd have it delivered in the white, shoot the hell out of it, and have a local GM buddy polish what needed it. I wouldn't bother with Accurails again, but would ask for a polished in slide to frame fit, maybe I'd have that same GM friend help me do it. French border, serrated rear of slide, and everything is either polished or rough bead blasted. Then it would get NP3 over everything but barrel and gr. Those would probably get TiN coating. Just for the sex, and how slick the gun cycles. actually now that you mention it, I am already working this project....
