  1. Frank passed away this week. He was a high school classmate of my dad. And, I'm proud to say that I knew and shot with Frank. If you've picked up a gun magazine in the past 25 years, you've likely read one of Frank's many articles. http://www.clapperfuneralservices.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=1656670#.VfnPZps2WQY.facebook
  2. I started shooting Bianchi with 40 in a 5" SV. As others have said, the best bet for bullets is the 135 gr Nosler. On my best day, on sandbags, I was getting 50 yd groups ~1.5". I took this to the cup in '04. I shot poorly. But, not because of the load. Start by simply loading the 135 over whatever it is you use for Major PF load for a 180 gr bullet. You're looking for 1000-1050 fps. As long as you're getting decent accuracy at 25 and 50 yds (bias towards 25 yds - all but 24 of the 192 shots are 25 yds an closer), try pushing the velocity closer to 1100. This will help with leads on the mover. The other thing to consider is recoil spring. I use a 12.5# with Major PF. With the 135, try a 10#.
  3. Gents, Has anyone of you loaded up and tested the 115 JHP from Precision Delta? I'm mostly familiar with Zero's. These look to be conical like HAP and the new Zeros. TIA
  4. Congrats to all of the winners, but especially Kevin. As nice and generous as they come. Way to go!
  5. I need another external, portable, hard drive to use with my MBP. My last was a LaCie Rugged, but I've been reading a lot of horror stories about their reliability (same with Drobo). What are you using that has FW800 connectivity?
  6. Did TGO not shoot this year?
  7. Just seeing this...yeah, all the shooter sees is wood. But, rest assured there is metal between you and the muzzle.
  8. Click Here to View Web Gallery of Photos These are straight out of the camera, so no post-process crop, color correction, or sharpening applied. If anyone wants a printable copy, email me at slow1911s at gmail dot com. Please include what size you'd like to print - 4x6 variants are the easiest (e.g. 4x6, 8x12) It was good to see and say hello to some familiar folks and a few new ones. I hope that next time I'm shooting bullets instead of the 1D. dp
  9. I can't show up with a gun (tomorrow), but I can show up with a camera. Will anyone be offended?

  11. The MD and I were talking about that last fall. I don't know right now. As soon as I do, one way or the other, I'll post here.

  13. Tac-Force makes a great, well-built, double long gun case made of ballistic nylon. I can put my 20" AR and Benelli M1 (w/ +5 ext) in. There is a large storage pocket that is big enough for a Dillon pistol bag, AR mags, and a few pistol mags. Nice big, padded, carry strap, also. Tac-Force D.T.S.
  14. You should also consider running open squads. Have ROs so you can run 2, 3, or 4 events at a time. I also strongly recommend running at least two shooters per COF simultaneously, if space allows. Most people from USPSA or IDPA backgrounds won't be used to that, but this is a different animal. If you can, I also recommend assigning 4 targets to each shooter that they'll carry with them to the shooting line and between stages.
  15. I see that JP has these on special. I did a search here and on interwebs and didn't find a whole lot. Does anyone use one or have thoughts about them? LOP is a challenge for me (I'm 6'6") so I'm thinking this might be an option.
  16. Great input. It's interesting to see how different we all are in terms of what works for us even though we all have the same overall goal.
  17. Well...it helps when you are dropping what you think you're dropping in terms of powder. Turns out that that was off by 0.3gr or more. Chrono'd again on Friday and I'm averaging 1165 fps with Zero, Sierra, and XTP 115 gr heads with mixed fired brass. The Sierra and XTPs were the most consistent and had the lowest SDs. Now I just need to learn how to shoot accurately.
  18. Specifically for 6" shooters, what width front sight are you using? Did you try different ones before settling on what you have now?
  19. I shoot Canon, but I don't think you can go wrong with Nikon. The D700 has a full frame (e.g. 35mm film equivalent) sensor. It should also be the most costly of the lot (until you get to D3). The D7000 and D3100 both have a DX sensor, which is smaller than full frame. What that gets you with longer lenses is more effective reach. The crop factor is 1.6, so with a 200mm lens it's effectively a 320mm (200x1.6). When it comes to Kit lenses, I wouldn't fret too much. There is a significant difference in cost and quality when you make the jump from standard lenses and move into professional-grade. For now, buy what you can afford because it will be more camera than you probably know what to do with. Here are some resource links. Amazon.com is also good for their user reviews (good and bad). www.kenrockwell.com http://www.the-digital-picture.com/
  20. Thanks. There a lot of folks I know, have met, and have shot with here. All of them of tons more experience with this bullet than I do. This is a start, though. The proof is over the chrono and the score sheet.
  21. I'm building my practice ammo stockpile again. For those who shoot 115 Zero JHP .355s (not the new conical), where did you find the best accuracy? Right now I'm at 1100 fps, but I'm not thrilled. Is closer to 1200 fps better in this bullet? FWIW, I'm shooting a 6" Kart bushing barrel.
  22. Since there is no capacity advantage in a tube gun, recoil difference is negligible, and the extra power from the 12ga trumps 1&2 for the 20ga, 12ga it is. In a magazine fed gun that might be different.
