Tanfoglio Porn

I greatly appreciate it, thank you.

My original V12 slide weighs in at 9.95 ounces,

the slide I machined out weighs in now at 10.26 ounces and is .3800'' of an inch longer.

The V12 does cycle just a little bit faster.

I still enjoy shooting my V12 , it runs like a freakin sewing machine.

Be careful with cutting your dust cover back , having that little bit of extra weight out there does aid in keeping the nose down.

And I agree with you , it's great to see more guys starting to use the Tanfo as an open gun platform.

Atlas has some good info on here, BeerBaron and others are starting to run new open tanfo's also,

so your definitely not alone. There is a lot of great info and help on this forum.

Now if we could only get Tanfoglio and EAA to supply us with more products and parts,

then we could really be having some fun.

Best of luck.

Well I have some updates.

I got the right screws for the quinn mount and tried it out. unfortunately it's way to close to the barrel ports.

I tried mounting it with just 3 screws (shifting it 1 screw width back) and that's better but not perfect. 1 more screw back is about perfect but mounting with just 2 screws I think runs a bit of a risk of getting constantly shifting zero...

anyway, I gave the old girl a clean and a good oil. fitted the sprinco, the quinn mount, and dressed her up for battle with some tape on the grips and magwell as well as some nice grip tape numbers for the mag bases.

again, pics taken with iphone, but here she is ready for work. :)

I went to sight the new mount in but hit some problems.

moving from the regular mount to the 90 mount straight away it was POI a little to the left and about 10 inches low at 15 yards.

I had to take off the thumb rest in order to access the adjustment screws. this left just 2 screws holding the cmore mount to the frame. big mistake. it musth ave shifted almost straight away. I made some adjustment to move POI up but it was now 10 inches high!! wtf. I ended up almost back where I started with POI now right on. looked at the moutn and realised it had shifted! FARK! moved it back, started again. finally got it sorted and told myself to check the moutn scnrews after every stage.

which I did and they were fine.

at the end of the day my hits started getting erratic. had 4 mini poppers at 18 meters and took me 6 shots to hit them!?! wtf. I then went and shot the plate rack and could not figure out if my hits were going high or low. it seemed all over the place. went to put the gun away and low and behold the 2 screws holder the cmore to the mount were loose! dammit! on the old mount this would not be a problem as it sits on 2 nice little posts. on the 90 mount (which really needs them) there are no posts. just the screws to hold it down. I really wish they put those posts on the 90 mount so all the screw do is clamp, not clamp and try to centre it.

ahh, now I have to start again. :(

Shooting left makes sense because of your low elevation adjustment on the tanfog mount. the thumb rest being in the way of the adjustment screws is just stupid. Who designed this thing and didn't notice that! For what it's worth, I loctited the front 3 screws and used a fourth screw like the front ones while I was making adjustments to the cmore. Then once it was right put the thumbrest back on. Mute point now anyway as I've moved to the tanfo rest.

I used cap head screws on mine and because the cap OD is slightly more than the mount holes in the c-more they tend to lock it in. Let me know if you want me to send you some. For what it's worth, I used used a washer on the front mount screw to try and even the pressure out over a larger area, and I tend to go on the side of overkill.

That said, I do agree that the Quinn could use the post setup like the tanfog mounts, it just seems to make so much more sense.

Sad to hear that you have to do it all again. Maybe it'd be worth mounting to the 4 holes in the frame, no thumbrest, and then once its dead on, move the mount back with 3 screws - check, minor adjust and once final adjust replace that rear screw for the thumb rest one. Food for thought?

BeerBaron,

I agree with Jase, that c-more mount is a piss-poor design with having to remove the thumb rest to adjust the optic.

You may have to deal with it until you can get the Cheely horizontal setback mount.

For now you won't be able to get a reliable sight picture without first securing the mount to the frame.

This will take a few days for drying time on the Loctite.

It may be best to go back to using all the frame holes for now.

I always Loctite the mount first to the frame before putting the c-more on it.

I use the Blue 242 Loctite because I do take the gun apart often , I'm always trying out different combinations.

A lot of guys use the Red 271, but I have heard horror stories of screw heads being stripped and having to be drilled out.

If you want to use the Red 271 , you will need to use heat to loosen up the Loctite before removing.

The Blue 242 holds just fine for me, make sure the surfaces are completely clean and dry, use the Loctite and

only put the front 3 screws on ( leaving the thumb rest screw out for sight adjustment )

tighten up the screws and let it sit for a day or even two.

At that point then put the c-more back on it and use the Blue 242 on those screws also and give it a day to dry.

Take it to the range and I recommend using a rest to help sight it in at first.

Be gentle with the C-more screws, they strip easily.

As your sighting it in , put a wrench on all the mounting screws to make sure they are staying tight.

When your happy with the final sight picture, head home and Loctite that last thumb screw in place.

And then when the Cheely mount comes in , stuff that other mount in a tool box.

I usually will put a wrench on my screws every 3 or 4 hundred rounds just to make sure everything is staying tight.

Best of luck.

Are you using red locktite (or whatever the equivalent is down there) on the mounting screws? I have found that unless you use a very strong thread compound the mounting screws back out of most optic mounts.

edit to add Gerrano types faster than me. :-)

thanks jase, gennaro and neomet.

I had planned to get the loctite on but didn't on these as I am waiting on a new complete set of screws that are being cut to the perfect lengths.

I will go with blue. if left to cure properly (something not everyone does) it should hold fine. red I think is overkill as like you guys I need to strip it from time to time.

jase, I used button head screws for the cmore to mount and the front was a tight fit and the rear I had to turn down the head to make it fit. I will definitely locktite them. the posts would be so nice to have. it helps hold the cmore and also makes sure it goes on in exactly the same place every time. even more crucial on a 90 mount.

after the first hiccup when I did the second round of sighting I put a wrench on the 3 mounting screws after every 3 shot group. but of course I neglected the 2 screws from cmore to the mount... big mistake.

yep, once the cheely comes this will go for a spare...

on a good note I liked the grip tape in the grip panels and on the magwell. :)

Wow , this thread got a little interesting.

I'll keep this short, I hope.

BeerBaron : I like the grip explosion.

gunnit : the extended mag release button is made out of 3/4 round aluminum ,

drill and tap 4-40 screw , but don't go to deep into the original mag button because there is a spring pocket in there.

It's a Little Machine Shop mini mill.

Take a look at the General Gunsmith Forum, StraightUp_OG started a thread called Home Built CNC.

StraightUp_OG, donnyglock, jid2 and others are really doing some incredible work on guns over there. They make me want to work on mine.

Bamboo : Liking the red.

atlas : I'm to old , what is instagram ? Just kidding. Hate it, don't use it, don't text, I prefer making a phone call, and by the way my phone still has a chord attached to it.

Now for some pics that won't please anyone. Rotate your screen to view them.

yes the "I'm going to make a 1911 using my CNC" thread is AWESOME! those guys are doing really cool stuff.

I'm actually thinking I should go back to the tanfoglio regular mount till I get the cheely. it may be the more reliable option for the short term.

I've got a 2 day match this weekend. struggling to decide whether to shoot the open gun or my production gun.

I haven't touched the production gun since I got the open gun, but the open gun is not sighted in etc.... hmmm.

BeerBaron if you can get the old mount Loctited tonight , sight it in on Thursday, practice Friday, shoot the weekend.

But if the production gun is ready to go now , practice everyday and shoot the weekend.

Either way your shooting this weekend and having fun.

Best of luck

unfortunately no chance to practice thurs or fri. I have a small window for some practice today and might use that to get my eye in on the production gun again. probably too much of a stretch to get the open gun running nicely before the match. :(
