Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. It's mostly just personal preference, and what the gun likes. Sometimes it can be powder availability or cost. Try as many different combinations as possible, and find what feels good to you. Best of luck.
  2. I've run Autocomp with a 124 RN. Start at 6.6 with a chrono, and somewhere between 6.8gr and 7.2gr you should reach a 170 PF. Best of Luck.
  3. Adding to what BeerBaron said, what you can do is use a little slide-glide grease on the end of the return spring to help keep it in the pocket, while you get the pin in. Try to get the pre and post travel screws close before you install. Best of Luck
  4. Not quite sure yet but I thought there were 2 different part numbers for that same sight. The one listed there,( that appears to be discontinued ) the Sig Sauer Romeo 3 # SOR31001, But I have the same Sig Sauer Romeo 3 part # SOR31002. But I'm not sure if they changed the part number, and just dropped the SOR31001, or dropped the entire style of red dot all together. I hope it might still be available as the SOR31002. It's a really decent sight. Best of luck.
  5. Appears to be an old Double Alpha. But I'm not 100% sure on that. Best of luck.
  6. BeerBaron might also be able to shed some light on the DAA. Not sure if there is a perfect holster out there. All of them seem to need a little adjusting here and there. I'm using the Manny Bragg Universal magnetic, ( which has quite a few adjustments to it ) in general it's been pretty good. However If I haven't been shooting in a while, I have to remember to keep my elbow in a little, so I draw the gun a bit more straight up and out, or it will catch on the sides. Like you said, a few dry fire sessions to help muscle memory. Best of luck.
  7. DenverDave: My current load is a 124 gr RN with 10.2 gr. of 3n38. EAA has the big stick ( 170mm , when it's in stock ) with the Grams follower and spring will get you 28 rounds of 38 SC, some of the 2011 guns are able to get into the 30 + round capacity. To my knowledge the 30 round magazine option is not yet available for the Tanfoglio. Best of luck.
  8. norith81, Jase the guns look fantastic. Thanks for posting the match from Australia. Best of luck.
  9. Your not alone, there are Gold Teams out there that struggle with HP's, and it seems like for no real reason why. Years ago I had some success with Zero because the nose had a little bit more of a point to it, but it still was not 100% reliable. As you mentioned the bullets are hitting the top or roof of the chamber. You can play with the opening of the feed lips on the magazine to try and correct the angle, but you mentioned that all the mags were doing it. This could take some considerable time and patience to fine tune each magazine ( with some occasional trial and error ) to get them all to feed reliably, and you might still get an intermittent feeding issue with the HP's. ( I tried and it was a PITA ) First try the original followers, and see if that adjusts the angle enough and hopefully corrects the problem for you. If it runs your golden. You might give up a round or two but that's better than the alternative. I do not recommend contouring the top of the chamber to help with feeding. This has been done before, but if it's messed up could lead to more problems for you. Better to play with the rounds and magazines first before touching the barrel. Some have no problems with HP. I only shoot RN in all my Tanfoglio's. Best of luck.
  10. What slide racker is that? Does it interfere with your draw? I really don't like the small factory racker and want an alternative. Thanks selecw: I don't care for the small factory slide racker either. Those are just Sidewinder slide rackers from Shooters Connection. You will have to remove a little bit of material off the bottom to get it to fit, but they do not interfere with my draw at all. However others have had their thumbs catch it, if that happens you can bend it further up to get it out of your way. They are difficult to use with the 90 degree mount. At that point you may want to look for something else to use on the opposite side, which will give you more accessibility to operate.
  11. I like them both. Enjoy switching back and forth between the two, trying different configurations, and accidentally discovering a combination that feels good. Maybe some day I'll sell a few, but for now I'm liking the options. Best of luck.
  12. I got you mixed up with gennaro and now that I reread his comments, they're much more bullish on 9 than I remembered Let me clarify, When I first started building Tanfoglio open guns in 9 major, I wasn't sure what to expect. But for me, right out of the gate I liked the recoil impulse I was getting from the 9mm. And now with the changes I'll be making to my 3rd generation 9major build , I believe I'll be able to get it to run and feel just like the guns I build in 38SC. And all of this of course is only my own personal preference. I'm not trying to start any disagreements here between 9mm and 38SC shooters. Choose whatever you want or whatever feels good in your own hands. Whether it's 9 or 38, it does not matter. Enjoy it and have fun. Best of luck.
  13. selecw: Be careful I don't believe they offer a 170mm big stick , in 9mm , for a Large frame. I think it's only in 38 Super. But send them an e-mail to confirm it, before placing an order. Best of luck.
  14. Those builds look freakin great, excellent work. What are those triggers your using ? They don't quite look like their EG Xtreme triggers, are they ? Those actually are the original triggers. I just set them further back and re-shape them to fit my own hands.
  15. Thanks for the response. It seems like there are very few folks running 9 major in these guns. I hope to build an open gun one day, and part of me wants to avoid the brass debacle with 38/supercomp. Seems like you are very limited on powders though if you stick to 9 major (especially in the factory open gun). littlehendrick: your very welcome. kneelingatlas is right the 9mm V12 is a bit difficult to load and get to run comfortably.( just too many ports for 9mm ). But it can be done. The 38 Super V12 is just an easier platform to deal with. But I do understand about the brass issue, I can relate to that. As mentioned above, if you can, get the six inch 9mm barrel from EAA , cut and thread it, and grab the 3 port comp from Eric Grauffel. That's a good start for a 9 major open gun.
