beltjones
For those shooting both matches do you recommend checking in the 16th and checking out the 25th? Or can you get away with checking out the 24th?
BritinUSA
Depends on whether you plan on attending the awards ceremony and how far you have to travel. The awards for the second match took a while to finish, so you would have all your luggage/guns etc. in the car park for a long time while you wait. Or you could just skip the ceremony and head home (all sweaty from the range)...
RAZZ
Wow. Some awful reviews of the Riviera on most travel web sites.
Intel6
The Hotel is about 13 miles from the range: MapQuest Link But if you plan on taking that main road that heads directly West it can be a PITA depending on the time of day it is. Two years ago for the Nationals I stayed at the Circus Circus because of the cheap rate and I was by myself. I found it much easier to just take 15 south and then take the loop (215?) around to get to the range. I tried that surface road once and found lots of traffic and seemed to hit every light. The only way I took that was if I was going back at the end of the day and it didn't matter how long it took. Neal in AZ

I've stayed there several times (not my choice) I wouldnt stay there if given a choice, or if I was spending my own money.

Aircooled6racer
Hello: So are you saying we should stay at the Orleans again? It was kinda nice being able to go and get food at the different food places whenever you wanted to. The English pub across the street had great beer and fish & chips. I guess I will have to check the match hotel out before I book it. Thanks, Eric
Maksim
Was just wondering about the hotel myself. I typically dont mind spending a bit more to get a better nights sleep, and things to do. For Shot Show stayed at the Wynn/Encore, and Ventian/Pallazo before. Right now Venetian is doing $129 a night rooms, and I got the same from Wynn. I am sure if you are a degenerate gambler, you can get it comped, or very cheap rate. Only issue, those promo rates are only bookable through Sept 15, right before nationals. Been to vegas, but have not shot at the range there... does the hotel really make a difference in terms of drive time? If not, might as well wait and get the best deal doing the "Name your price" through priceline. Got some great deals that way before.
pjb45
Has anybody been researching other places to stay. I was not wild about the Orleans, but unlike Aircooled6racer, I only ate at the Orleans. So I am petty tired of their food selection. I would prefer to have a nice bed, the drive does not bother me too much. I just want a nice place to stay. gamingoddess
We stayed at the Riviera in 2009 for the Nationals. I really don't know why the hotel gets such a bad rap. If you're the type that stays in the hotel to only eat the food from that hotel and gamble from that same hotel...well, yeah you'll probably get sick of it within a couple of days. Ate at the buffet there once and it wasn't all that great (and it's expensive). However, if you're the type that uses it only as a place to sleep in, it's pretty good. We slept in the newly renovated buildings. Clean, the receptionists were nice, and it was very easy to exit and travel between my vehicle and my room. We used it as a home base but most of the time we immediately went to other casinos to watch shows and gamble after a days shooting. One more thing, traffic and driving to the range was NEVER a problem from the Riviera. All I remember was leaving parking lot, going straight, taking a left, going straight...that's as simple as it was. I do admit that the Orleans had the best buffet for the price though. We weren't staying at the Orleans but we drove there a lot to eat. Loved their meat. Diana

No Evil
If money is not an issue you could stay at the Red Rock Casino 3 minutes from the range.
Kagemusha
As above, Red Rock is close to Desert Sportsmen's, but they're $$$. They're also not on the strip, which may or may not be a good thing, but they still have a casino and lots of food options. At last year's MG, I stayed at the Hilton - depending on their specials, you get Riviera/Orleans rates for better rooms and amenities, IMHO. The Hilton is off the strip but there is a monorail station on premises. Edited June 29, 2011 by Kagemusha
gamingoddess
I forgot to mention that wireless internet will NOT be free at Riviera. So expect to pay around 10 bucks a night if you want it. That's one thing that I don't like...but I doubt many major casinos on the main strip offer that anyways.
BritinUSA
It was the same at the Orleans... I use a USB modem when travelling as it saves a lot of grief.
