BritinUSA
For the final 2-3 hours of my journey from Colorado to Nevada, I could not get this song out of my head. It reminded me of last years Nationals and the video compilation (below): Hard to believe that it has been a year already. The slot machines are beeping (incessantly) at the Orleans, the smell of nicotine is in the air,.... in the carpet, the walls and my polo shirt. I haven't seen any other shooters yet, but I am sure that will change shortly. Tomorrow we get to walk the stages (after 1pm) and then sign-up back at the hotel from 3pm. I'll be covering the Women's Super Squad again this year and I'll try to post some shots and news as we go through the day (assuming my Verizon Wireless works at the range). I'm afraid I don't have video capability at the moment. Perhaps next year I can figure something out for the cubicle'y-confined. The women are shooting in the morning on the first day (Saturday) and then it's my turn to shoot in the afternoon. It seems much cooler than last year (a blessed relief to be sure), but I suspect it could be a tad chilly first thing in the morning.
High Lord Gomer
Very cool video! I got here yesterday and took my 12 year old to the Grand Canyon today. Tomorrow morning we hit the Hoover Dam then the real fun starts! You are joining us for dinner tomorrow night, right?
BritinUSA
The range was open at exactly 1pm today for walkthroughs. All the berms are set and the stages look great ! I have added some shots of the stages below. I just got back from registration, got my bag of goodies including a free gun cover from Safariland to keep the dust off my blaster which was a big problem last year. Temperatures are expected to be a bit warmer than today. BritinUSA
It's less than 12 hours to the start of the 2010, US Nationals. The women's super squad will start on Stage 8, a 25 round field stage shot from inside a darkened house. There seems to be only one way to shoot this but with lots of turns it will favor the fleet-footed. This years Open contest is shaping up to be a 'Battle Royale' with Jessie Abbate shooting in Open against the 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006 US National Champions. I'm not sure what gun Jessie is shooting, I will try to post details tomorrow night after the opening day. The Limited-10 match has 2009 champion Randi Rogers taking on Kippi Leatham and junior shooter Tori Nonaka. With stages 9 through 11 requiring 11,10 and 10 rounds respectively it will be interesting to see if the shooters throw in a mag change or throw caution to the wind and hope for perfect one-for-one hits on some tight targets and mini-poppers. The stages seem designed to test all aspects of shooting, with some tight and longer distance targets, along with a fair number of low ports that we have not seen at Nationals for a while. Stage 14 has an interesting layout, with the first target sitting on what appears to be about 89.99999 degrees from the back-stop (one of those stages where caution is the operative word). Wireless reception at the range is not ideal so my match updates may have to wait for the evening... Stay tuned

BritinUSA
Update: Jessie Abbate's ammunition is stuck somewhere in Vegas. She is waiting for some more to arrive and may have to shoot through the math this afternoon to catch up.
BritinUSA
This is Jessie's gun for the match. The S&W custom shop are apparently working on the formal guns. The sight is by Leopold. Jessie is still waiting on the ammo and is currently hanging out with the squad, taping targets and setting steel. Athena just had a squib on Stage 10, essentially losing 55 points. shred
Hopefully Brit won't mind me popping a few more photos into his thread.. I got a few "who the heck is this?" / "where have you been?" at the dinner. We started on the standards and it ate a few lunches.. I could hear the calendar pages turning as I took forever to fire the first weak-hand shot. Here's a couple shots from the squad today. The "Money Shot" from Ong And another from Orville. Check out the neck on that target.. that's the bullet heading for the next target over.
Chris Keen
Roy, if BritinUSA doesn't mind me asking, how far are the standards?

Was there no one with some spare ammo to loan until she got hers, or did she just want to shoot her own? Also, having trouble with some of the videos, are they going to be on YouTube? Thanks for the updates, and keep them coming when you can.
BritinUSA
Plenty of people offered up ammo. But Jessie's gun is a hybrid and everything was bordering on minor. My ammo makes 172 out of my gun but only 166 out of hers.
