  1. Don't forget, the Square Deal uses special dies, not the standard interchangeable type.
  2. I've been running 124 Plated Raniers with 8.3 of Longshot in Armscor 38 Supercomp brass. OAL of 1.25. I get a median PF of about 170. I'm using a Gold Team Tangfolio with V-8 holes and a comp.
  3. Guys, I need a new safety. Maybe someone out there has a stock take-off that they replaced with an extended safety. I've got a Gold Team that comes standard with the extended safety. I have a small hand and a short thumb. Because of the shape and offset style of the extended safety, it can be engauged by pushing forward on the bottom rear of the lever. The way my short thumb rests on the safety, it pushes it forward as I fire, and enguages. It looks like the standard Tangfolio safety is not as offset, and might not move on me. Anyone out there have an extra unused one, laying in a drawer somewhere? Maybe for a good price?
  4. Easy. Get the Grams follower and spring: http://www.tanfoglioparts.com/magparts.html Then add the H-141 base pad: http://www.tanfoglioparts.com/magpads.html I'm never exactly clear how many coils I'm supposed to buy. Just ask the store owner, Henning, he's a good guy. He'll even assemble and tune complete mags for you, if you need. His description says 24 rounds. I can fit 24 in mine, but they won't let the magazeine catch with the slide closed. The only way I'd use 24 is if the stage started with the gun on a table with the slide locked open. Maybe I'll be able to use 24 after the springs take a set. On, on the 9mm: rumor has it that the small frame tanfoglio's in 9mm have a great magazine setup. EAA doesn't import the small frames right now. The difference between large and small is ONLY the size of the magazine hole. All exterior dimensions are identical. I think CZ makes a 9mm with the smaller frame size that can make a good open gun... but it will cost more.
  5. Hey Jam-man! I tried putting 9mm in my 38 super magazines. They didn't work with more than 5-6 rounds in the magazine. All nose-diving. I'm not sure what, if any, the differences between the 9mm and 38 super magazines are. I was using a Gram's follower, designed for 38, so maybe that caused some problems. Also, I wouldn't consider 17 rounds in the magazine successful. With the right base/spring/follower, I can get 23 in the 38 Super magazines. That's a significant advantage, especially if you are stuck scoring minor in Limited USPSA.
  6. Tanfoglio Gold Team, ready to run outa the box. Best bang for the buck!! Shop around, and you'll get a low mileage 38 super with all the trimmings and mags for around $2K. Also, I think one of the guys here had one built for a good price. Search BE.
  7. I've heard from a few people that have gotten the 9mm working in their Tanfoglio gold team. However, there are a lot of reports of nose-dives and other feeding problems with the 9mm in the Tanfoglio magazines. I've heard that the easiest is 38 supercomp. I can get 23 rounds in my 140mm mags, and have never had any feeding or reliability problems. If you already load 38 super, and don't mind being 'minor' in limited class, stick with 38 super.
  8. Hey Brian!! Looks awesome. I've seen a couple great looking paint jobs by Caryn. I'm set for Area 1 all-day friday also. Maybe we'll squad together. I'm shooting my new open Tanfoglio in 38 super. See it here: my first open gun Maybe we should have a side bet. Jeff WVU
  9. My guess is that 1.5" dot to barrel is a little short. I didn't get mine out out to measure, but... Cmore is 2" max height. Since the lens is offset, I think the dot is probably 1.5" from the base. Now, add the extra clearance, slide, and 1/2 barrel. I'm guessing the total is over 2 inches from center of barrel to dot, maybe even 2.5 inches With the sight 2 inches above the barrel, the ballistic calculator says a 10 yard zero would impact 6 inches high at 50 yards. With the sight 2.5 inches high, a 10 yard zero would impact 8 inches high at 50!!! See how much your sight height impacts things with a 10 yard zero.
  10. I chrono'd some new loads yesterday. 38 Super Comp, Longshot, 124gr at various amounts of powder. How much standard deviation is normal? What should I strive for? Will I get some as the gun heats up? My best batch had a SD of 2.4 fps, my worst 16 fps. Any insight?
  11. Ummm... maybe I'm confused. I'm not sure I understand all the details... You can shoot 38 Super in USPSA Limted as minor. I'm not into IDPA, but the rules seem to imply that 38 Super is fine for ESP. So, why not shoot it as-is? The only reason I can come up with is that you don't reload, and want to buy ammo off the shelf, and 9mm is much cheaper. The only other reason is that you do reload, but have a butt-load of free 9mm brass. Why 9mm?
  12. I've use them with no troubles. I can't say they are super accurate (for me), but they feed great. I run them in my Tangfolio open gun at about 170pf. I think the price is right. My local club sells Ranier plated bullets at cost (plus minimal fee), and the MG 121 are the same price!!
  13. That safety looks different from mine. What is it? I'm not sure I like the one on my gun, and I'm looking for options.
  14. Did you chrony them on the same day with the same setup. I do a lot of experimental testing for my job, and I always include control samples. I attempt to hold as many variables as constant as possible, measure those not under my control, and vary only one on purpose. So, that means... load them on the same day, with the same lot of powder, same batch of bullets, same primers. Measure the OAL, crimp, case length. Chrony them side-by-side on the day/time. Send me the data, and I'll crunch it through a statistical analysis program.
  15. I've got a Gold Team. V8, not the V12. I've been using 121 IFP from Montana Gold + SP2. They work great, and I have no complaints. However, I've also been testing Ranier Plated 124gr RN. I've pumped them up to 171 pf. They are just as accurate as the IFP, and have no signs of coming apart. People have said the poly barrel in the Tangfolio is friendlier to the plated bullet. Shockingly, the Montana Gold bullets are about the same price as the Ranier, but I can get the Ranier from our local club. I'm not very good at planning ahead, so I'll probably settle on the Ranier.
  16. SWandME, As others have stated, the mindset changes depending on your division. What are you shooting? I never round count while shooting. I do maintain enough situational awareness to know that I'm going to run dry early if I'm shooting too much (steel, or pickup mikes).
  17. Be careful when trying to eliminate all the over travel. I dialed out too much and had a problem with ignition. I'm not sure I understand the details, but it's something about the sear dragging on the hammer and slowing it down. With full power hammer spring, you might not be as sensitive as me, but if you want a nice trigger, lighter springs really help. Reference to the overtravel issue here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...p;hl=overtravel I would suggest checking out Henning's web page. He's got a lot of good trigger parts. I highly recommend the long firing pin.
  18. Here's what Chillis sent me. What he didn't say is which he preffered for certain type of stages... Maybe we can start grading our music by hit factor! 1. 19. I can understand that. For me, music is like a movie soundtrack for life. I don't really pay close attention, but it really adds to the total experience.
  20. I shoot about 172pf. But that's an open gun, and I need it to get the comp working.
  21. Yes, I see your point. There probably is a sweet spot that will make people think about it. Getting the right angles and distances may be a trial and error thing. I can work out the angles in google sketch. Anyone want to suggest the distances to use? Maybe I'll set it up at a practice session and use myself as a guinea pig.
  22. Oh, sorry. Start in Box A or Box B. Shoot plates from Box A or Box B. The idea being that it tempts people to shoot all the steel from one box, saving time but risking hitting the no-shoots.
  23. OK. Thanks for that! I was planning on making the stage longer anyway, since it seemed a little short.
  24. Arrange no-shoot arrays so that they appear directly behind only three of the six plates from either Box A or Box B.
  25. If you were to listen to your iPod while shooting a match, what music would you pick? Would you change your selection based on the hit factor of the stage? Mozart for 50 yrd standards. AC/DC for speedy steel. I'm stuck in the 70's and 80's, so I'd listen to Queen (Greatest Hits) and any Rocky soundtrack.
