  1. You'll have to get a new set of 38 super dies. The shell plate will depend on what kind of 38super brass you use. There are three different common types, 38super, 38supercomp, and 38 TJ. Search this forum, and you find out the details of the differences. Basically, the 38comp has a rim, and the 38supercomp and 38TJ are rimless. For many people, the rimless version fit into the magazines with greater ease and more reliability. The only difference is the extractor. Usually, if you tune your extractor to run rimless, you can also run rimmed cases, but they may land in a different spot. Anyway, there is a different shell plate for the rimless. The 9mm shell plate works for the 38 super, but the 38supercomp and 38TJ use the 223 size shell plate. I know, the SDB doesn't do rifle cartridges, but they do have a shell plate to fit the rimless. Oh, and if you go rimless, don't buy Armscor brass. There's nothing wrong with them, however, their variation in rim thickness is not compatible with the tight shell plates in the SDB. Starline has less variation, and you won't have to throw away 10% of it...
  2. I just got an ultrasonic cleaner. I like it, but am experimenting with different fluids. I've used H20 and dishsoap (dissapointing), and dilute simple green (pretty good, but need to make it stronger). Anyone ever try Ed's Red or straight mineral spirits? Would it be dangerous? Explosive? When I use H2O, there is a significant amount of condensation on the lid. If the same inadvertent vaporization of the mineral spirits or Ed's Red is flamable, isn't there a risk of explosion? I plan to buy the L&R fluids, but would rather find a better and cheaper solution.
  3. Thanks! That's only one step up from my SDB (adding 5th station). I really want the case feeder too.
  4. Thanks Ed. I haven't returned the last stuff you loadned me yet!! I really love the SDB, but really want a case feeder and 5th station. I've been shooting 800rnds a month (practice + TCGC match). Now that I'm done coaching baseball, I'll probably go over the 1000 rnds/month. Gotta feed that new open gun!! I'll check with Mick, but every 650 I've seen is too expensive.
  5. OK, I know all you Dillon guys out there are going to holler "Get a 650!". But, I can't afford a 650!!! (Well, I can technically afford it, but I need to spend my good-will equity with the wife appropriately) Right now, I've got two Square Deal B's and a Lee turret. I want 5 stations and a case feeder! My plan was to sell one SDB, and buy a loadmaster and get it running, then sell the 2nd SDB and Lee turret and have some money left over for accessories. I could do the same thing with the LNL, but still be short some money when I'm done. The LNL is about $650 with the case feeder and 1000 free bullets. Found a used LNL, but don't know the price yet. The loadmaster is about $215 with the case feeder. If I accept that the loadmaster will require a little more tinkering, I think it might work for me. Opinions between the two?
  6. My problems with HPs in super have all been feeding. never chamber. but thats always something to check for. leo Once I'm done with the 2k RN that I've been using, I'm switching back to 121 IFP. They reload well, feed well, and are accurate. Price is right too, almost the same price as some plated bullets.
  7. Just got mine back on Tuesday. I think that was 2 weeks from my hands to my hands... Awesome!
  8. Yea, I'll bet it is short stroking. What spring are you using? I'm running 38 super at 170pf and a 10 lb spring. If you've got a 14 or 16 lb spring, it may not be fully cycling the slide. I know that a heavier spring would seem to help close the slide, but if the slide is not traveling the full distance, maybe it's too slow to pick a round. Henning, of course, is the man to ask.
  9. When I bought the extended magazine release for my single stack, I also bought 4 springs of different weight. I started with the lightest one, and had the magazine falling out when I bumped the button. I just kept increasing the spring strenght until my problems went away...

    Parking

I'm going to add my 2cents to this one. Parking lots in generall really piss me off around here. There is a shortage of land near the main roads that is zoned for commercial use. As a result, they use the absolute smallest spaces possible and the smallest driving lanes possible. There is barely enough room to shoe-horn myself in/out of the car, let alone room for me to hold the door so the kids don't ding the next car. OH, and just because I drive a little narrow car, doesn't give you jerks with the F-850 king-cab with dualies and a 5 ton bed the right to use half my space!! If you insist on driving that monstrosity, the least you could do is park it in those three spaces out where no one else needs them.
  11. I started doing this during practice, just to avoid digging the round out of the dirt. Then I accidentally did it at a match! Oops, sorry Mr. RO. I know that's not acceptable, Mr. RO. Demonstrates that practice does make permanent.
  12. Joe, is that you as the RO in the video?
  13. I've heard some 'modified' and 'obselete' commands used a lot, even heard a lot of funny ones. This one, however, really caught my attention. And I quote: "Give us a nod when you're ready" "The shooter indicates that he's ready" "Standby - Beep"

  15. I got that unit recently. It's pretty cool. My setup is pretty simple - 2 sided foam tape attaches to a hard clasp that grabs the camera head on the bill of the cap and the line feeds through the top of the cap, secured in between the adjustable velcro on the back of the cap, and down my back, through my belt, and the unit just slips into my back pocket. It works amazingly well, and there's really no fumbling around. When I'm up, I walk up to the thing, turn the camera on (takes maybe 10-15 seconds to get ready), and I'm ready to go. Here's some clips of my videos on youtube. You'll notice the gun is not positioned straight in the middle but slightly to the left in the videos. That is because I'm a right handed shooter but left eye dominant! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBAnfVnyqqM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM0uv5eTWNY
  16. I've got a can of teflon based dry lube. It comes out wet, but dries and leaves a teflon residue. I use it as the primary lube in my 10/22, and I use it in my 38 super mags...
  17. Probably becuase of the local laws? I think the Australia shooters have to use it for this reason.
  18. OK, now I see. I've just been afraid of using a little muscle...
  19. So, I've got Henning's 141 pad for my Gold Team. They work fine, and I'm happy with it. However, I can't figure out how to gracefully remove it. The spring is solidly in the base, and sliding the base off is almost impossible. I tried using a tool to compress the spring after partially removing the pad. No good. How do you guys get the pads off? I'm tempted to drill a hole in it, and add a thin plate inside the base pad, similar to the stock bases.
  20. Went out to practice this week. I didn't once bump it on. I think Rob's suggestion was the last bit that finally fixed the problem. I got an extended safety (non-offset) from Rich. I'm going to install and test it, just in case.
  21. Thanks for the info. I'm trying to remember where I was when they had paid the local boy scouts to work the range. Maybe it was a charity match, bowling pins? Oh, and there's no way it was Abe. His hat would be a dead giveaway on the grassy knoll.
  22. I never have high primer problems on my SDB. I've loaded all sorts of brands of brass in 45 and 9mm. For 45, I buy bags used stuff at the gun shows. For 9mm, I buy reloaded ammo from MiWall, then save the brass. The only primer problem I've had was some 'flipping' due to the primer cup set screw getting loose and allowing it to bounce off the bottom of the shell plate. Maybe you should call Dillon. They can help you identify the real cause of your high primers. There may be a problem with your press. Maybe you have something blocking the complete travel travel of your press, or the primer cup is setup wrong, or your shell plate is loose. Take the powder measure system off (including the lever and rod). Take the press off the bench. Move the arm and measure with calipers how far the primer cup extends above the shell plate. Then re-mount the press and measure again. Then re-mount the powder measure system, then measure again. You may find that there is something blocking the travel of the arm.
  23. Questions from a 1st time attendee: Q1: Is it a lost-brass match? Q2: Do we have to tape/set targets, or will there be a bunch of boy/girl scouts, FBLA, FFA, 4-H, or young democrats looking to raise money? Q3: Is the catered lunch included in the match fee? Q4: How much ammo will I need? Q5: How does the chrony stage work? Q6: Who really killed JFK?
