  1. Serious question. What do our principle, as listed in our official documents, mean today? Are they just something we talk about and and remember over an adult beverage, or do they really mean something?
  2. If I read this correctly, you can no longer hold the top of a wall for support such as shooting strong or weak handed. Only the edge is legal now, correct?
  3. Not getting your stage thrown out is not all that difficult. I made a promise that I would never have a stage thrown out over something I did or failed to do when I should have. So far after 40 years I haven't lost one yet. The trick is to know the rulebook, understand the concept of running a stage, and when in doubt ask someone higher on the pay scale than you. Pay attention to your targets, no-shoots, hard cover, props and walls. Make sure, as much as possible, that the last shooter had the same challenge as the first shooter. Try to treat others like you would like to be treated. I have let my temper get the best of me on rare occasions and I felt like crap afterwards. Apologies were quick to follow. Work your crew as a team. Tell them how you work and explain to them what is expected of them in return. We all work to make our stage a success. Dont be afraid to admit you might be wrong. Evaluate every call. Replay it in your mind, check the rulebook, talk to your crew. They might have had a better view than you did. When all is said and done make your call based on the best available evidence and the rulebook. Happy New Year!
  4. Nik with all due respect, it is that type of thinking that is ruining this sport, Happy New Year.
  5. If the RM made that decision that is the end of it. No arbitration on a scoring issue.
  6. Sounds like the timer might have been set to random, and not instant, but who knows.
  7. Yep. Made plenty of mistakes in my life. I own each and every one.
  8. Sorry, fat fingered 3. Should have been 4 as was discussed earlier in this thread. If I only had a video of how to use this keyboard correctly?
  9. Sarge I hear what you are saying. The RO course is something like getting your drivers license. You learn how to drive after you get that license. RO's are like everyone else, some will study the rulebook, ask questions, observe and as the Army says "be all you can be". Others will carry the RO card and float along at the same level they were on the first day. Very frustrating.
  10. You can only provide the correct information, what they do with it is another thing. Every month I correct people on the correct range command. Made labels and put them on the back of the timers. Still next month, same thing again.
  11. Perhaps we could use the RO's that lost their stage at Area 3. RMI bring their years of experience and knowledge with them. That is why they are rated at the top of the food chain.
  12. Our mileage may vary. Additionally, there is a live fire exercise where students run each other under supervision. Not really conducive to video tape.
  13. Having taught these classes, there is no substitute for discussions and feedback from your students. Not only is it important that an RO be able to quote a rule, but they need to understand how and why that rule came to be. Knowing and understanding how and why things are is very important.
  14. Can you elaborate so others may learn what noto do?
  15. Trust me, I know that. His post stated that one shot was missing. I was trying to point out it was not necessarily the last shot.
  16. What if the missing shot was not the last shot? What if it was the first shot? Proper use of the timer eliminates these issues.
  17. Easily fixed by after last shot fired, holding the timer so the scorekeeper can read it and record the time. The RO can still be in the process of clearing the firearm.
  18. It says "after being scored", etc. RO scores the target, Joe Shooter paste target before competitor has seen it, the score stands as called.
  19. I could be wrong, but I don't think it is calling for two mikes if you have not scored the target. A non-scored target is a re-shoot.
  20. There are minimum numbers of competitors listed to have rewards. Don't meet the numbers, no cost to the club but the club still keeps the entry fee. Now what?
  21. Once again I ask, other than someone being able to say "I beat so and so in xyz division ". , what is USPSA gaining by a merge?
  22. Yes I got that. A re-shoot is only justified for an invalid time. What I am saying is if the RO does their job you have a valid time, so no re-shoot.
