  1. Can anyone advise a gunsmith that is good at TIG welding? Gary Stevens
  2. I don't think you understood my intent. I never said shoot at less than your ability. What I tried to say was shoot within your ability. As Ken Tapp once told me, "push it to the edge where you see the gates of Hell opening, then take one half step back". Bases on your statement, maybe a half step back is warranted.
  3. I've heard it said that you will never know where you can go, until you know where you can't go. It seems that you have found where you can't go. Dial it back a bit and be smooth. Everything else will fall in place.
  4. This rule has been around for decades. I believe it originated on the thinking that you chose a holster with these devices (straps, etc.) so you should use them. With that that being said, some adjustments in the rule is warranted.
  5. My RPR 6.5 creedmore has done 1 7/8 inch at 400 yards with factory Hornady 140 grain. No reason to mess with success.
  6. You don't want to shoot SS, great. Is it a problem to you if someone else does? Does it require a restructuring of divisions?
  7. IMO, USPSA has evolved (devolved) into maximum round count stages. Couple that with the fact that it is easier to not reload during the stage than reload. If single stack dies it will be partially because of USPSA poor marketing to the numerous makers of 1911's. To repeat myself, I don't know why it matters if 1 or 100 shoot a particular division. Perhaps someone will explain that to me.
  8. Not speaking for NROI, but I don't see grip tape as something different than cocking serrations. The only way way you can know for sure is from NROI.
  9. Why does it bother some if only one or two people shoot a particular division. Those shooters chose to shoot whatever they shoot. They pay their match fee, and presumably have fun. Practiscore does all the statistics regardless of what you are shooting. The rulebook tells us how many shooters are required in a division to make awards. Don't make the specified number you shoot for score only. Where is the problem
  10. I have a 6 inch Volquartsen on an old Mk 2. Fantastic upper.
  11. You can easily use the backer, after you peal the plasters off. The white shows up nicely on the overlay.
  12. Glad you have joined the hotel room key brigade. It's been lonely all these years, although I wasn't looking for a perforation ?
  13. And that is how it should be. Good for you.?
  14. Sarge I agree. However, absent clear bedrock definitions, I have to use my common sense to make a decision. We have a clear rule about a shooter who starts prematurely before the start signal. They are stopped and restarted. It seems that if there is ambiguity about the start signal there can be an equal process. My bright line is if they draw the pistol, until told otherwise.
  15. Now who is it that says "don't be a dick"?
  16. All I can tell you is someone failed to do their job. Their failure is why I have had to put people on Open after they have shot 3-4 stages.
  17. I read the rule differently. React to the signal, to me, means draw. There is a lot of noise on a range. Some shooters have lost hearing. A shooter that flinches and ask the RO if that was his start signal should be given a re-start. I'm a rulebook type of guy, but common sense has to apply sometimes, especially when the gun has not been drawn. Back to the OP though, I think the shooter owns it, and a counseling session is called for with the RO.
  18. It is not recommended to use random start (delayed).. Using instant allows the RO to control the start. I have had many shooters either start creeping or start moving before the start signal. When I don't push the button they return to the proper position. I couldn't do that on random start. The only recourse would be to issue penalties, which I don't want to do.
  19. I (we) do one on the first squad of the day at the Single Stack Nationals, now reverted to the Single Stack classic.
  20. Short answer no. However, using your powers of observation if a shooter has their equipment in a location that indicates a particular division, but their gun is not in compliance with that division, a simple question could be in order.
  21. To the original question, ask the RO, they record time, receive permission from RO, shoot gun into backstop, show clear, etc. Then fix ammo issue.
  22. This is not all that complicated. If the shooter is not in compliance with the rulebook take action. Either don't give the MR command and call the next shooter or unload them, call for the RM and get the next shooter on the line. Start positions are simply reminding the shooter what the correct start position is. If that doesn't work, see the sentence above.
  23. Oh well, personally I wouldn't have started him, but sometimes experience is the best teacher. Wonder if he tried to get a refund on his class. just for curiosity what gun was he shooting?
  24. OK I'm confused. You ask him what Division he was shooting before the start signal, he said Production, and you started him anyway?
  25. If a shooter came to the line with equipment in positions that indicate they may be shooting Production, I think I would ask what division they were shooting before the start signal if they were cocked and locked. RO's are more than timer holders, or at least they should be.
