  1. Also an arb involves two sides. It is up to the official to present and prove the charge. While you may not normally arb a safety issue, you may arb to determine whether exceptional circumstances warrant reconsideration of the match disqualification. It's not as easy as just handing it off to the RM and saying "handel it". Apparently DNROI has an opinion, and also has authority by virtue of his position, but until an official ruling is made, different people will make different calls based on the same action. Not a good situation.
  2. Until it is an official ruling the jury is still out.
  3. Do you have a ruling from DNROI relating to this specific situation?
  4. So how do you overrule the rules I have quoted? Do you agree that it impacted farther than 10 feet? Do you agree that the shot impacted the berm or inside the range? Do you then say "But I feel it was unintended and I want him/her DQ'd despite what the rules say"?
  5. Well it became a moot point since he left before I could get to the stage. Words mean things. If the final part of the unload command had not been given, the shooter may return to shooting. We do not require aiming to fire a shot. What we do require is safety. In this particular case it is shot impacts farther than 10 feet from the shooter, and that the shot not go outside the berm or in another unsafe direction. Simple clear metrics. if your intent is to DQ a shooter by use of unsafe gun handling every time a shooter does something you don't feel is right, you will have to explain it and justify your call. It is all on you. Your problem is when the specific rules are against you you will lose. This makes NROI trained Range officers look bad, by not knowing the rules. We all know what actually happened. Shame on the shooter for his/her actions. However, the rules are the rules. They sometimes cut both ways. I'll stay with the rules until the DNROI tells me I'm wrong. Thank you for your kind words.
  6. Was the different job descriptions of the MD and RM on that test?
  7. When we act as Range Officers we are to apply the rules evenly and only when they have been violated. To issue a DQ and imply that the RM can figure it out is wrong headed, IMO. It is not the RM's DQ it is on the RO who made the call to justify it. My job as RM is to listen to both sides and insure that the call is supported by the rules. Our rules are part of our guiding principles. That rulebook allows us to shoot at any USPSA match and be treated fairly and not be subject to arbitrary or malicious rulings.
  8. So you have DQ'd a shooter for unsafe gun handling, remember the call starts with you, what would be your explination to justify your call?
  9. Check your notes and the rulebook again. If the final command, "if clear, hammer down, holster" has not been given what actions is the shooter allowed to do?
  10. George is a very seasoned Range Master Instructor, former BOD member and a very experienced shooter. i've listed rules that you can point to that it is not a DQ. What more do you desire (rules wise that is).
  11. I'm sort of a words mean things type of guy. The rules say you may resume shooting before the "if clear command is given". The rules say a shot that impacts farther than 10 feet from the shooter and stays within the berm is not a DQ. You know and I know, and I suspect the shooter knows what he did. He he was wrong and I would have been wrong to ignore the written rules. Two wrongs don't make a right. He should have received the additional time and a repeat of the unload sequence of commands IMO.
  12. I've plowed this ground before. I was the un-named RM.
  13. You cannot challenge the difficulty of a stage, but you can officially challenge the safety of the stage before you shoot it.
  14. You can also buy just the bullets. I really like the 154/150 grain 9mm factory load.
  15. Somewhat refreshing approach, IMO.
  16. That seems to be what the rule implies (states) I think. Not really poor stage design, its a standards.
  17. OK just reviewed the PCC rules again. The rule says a shooter may not be required to start with the PCC on the weak side. The way I read that is if the shooter decides that they want to start that way it is ok. Scenario: stage requires six shots to be fired weak side only from the start signal. Shooter holds PCC on weak side, weak hand on pistol grip, strong hand on hand guard, stock touching belt. Anyone see a rule violation?
  18. Sounds like you inherited a K-38. These are fine old guns and many of us appreciate them for what they are. You might be better off to sell the old Smith and buy a newer revolver that meets your needs. My 2 cents.
  19. Two bags from the bench. Don't really like prone shooting. Uncomfortable and then I have to try to get up which is not a pretty sight? I should add i am using a Sig Tango 6 5-30x56 scope. Awesome scope?
  20. As stated the only upgrade is a timney trigger. Factory Hornady 140 ELD match. Factory gun other than trigger.
