  1. I thought the selling point was that the material was a lot harder not that it has a special coating.
  2. I get your passion, staring down a barrel is not fun, but I honestly don't think anything could have changed what you experienced. Even with a required class, a new guy could come to a match to register same day, not having a class taken, and still do the same thing. This is one reason I no longer shoot at a local indoor range. It's a static range and they require a new shooter orientation before being allowed on the range and there is still all kinds of craziness on the range. What I would suggest is a basic online course going over gun handling, what to except at your first match, etc. USPSA could still do this with none members by giving them a tentative member number after completing the online course, like T0000001. This would be required to shoot a match and should you choose to join later they would just drop the T. No class is going to stop everything bad, but I'd agree that some basic education is needed beforehand. My local club does an action shooter orientation to use the pistol bays at the club. They set up a short course trying to get people to be more familiar with gun handling as well as a 180 trap to make sure the shooters know and are aware of it. Best of luck creating a course, make sure to keep us all updated as to the progress.
  3. For stuff I'm about to use, I clean and the load. When I started wet tumbling, I would pop a couple primers to make sure the pocket was dry to make sure my drying methods were good. I did pick up a universal decapping die and decapped in my 550 and then cleaned about 3500 rounds with pins for long term storage. This experience taught me I'd rather buy preprocessed brass then spend the few hours it took me. I only did this because I figured I wanted to keep some on the side for long term storage and didn't want the possibility of water corroding the primers and not being able to remove them.
  4. Can't wait to hear the reports. I need a 40 dropper anyways so might as well wait a bit to hear how great these are.
  5. I would assume mlok would be lighter just based on the appearance of less material to allow for the slots. I would also think a screw in version would either be really thick to allow for threads or need extra material at each hole, maybe a nut welded inside. Coming from using the quad rail handguards in the Army, anything is really better than that.
  6. So when I used to be really into golf, the same thing would happen to me. I would tense up my jaw, which would tense up my neck and shoulders and cause my shots to be inconsistent. Someone told me to put a potato chip in my mouth between my teeth and hit w few shots at the range, focusing on not biting the chip. It helped and shifted my focus to relax my face. I changed my preshot routine to relax my entire body staying from my head down to my toes before each shot. I tool this same feeling to my shooting and relax everything prior to the buzzer. When I get rushed to the line and don't relax it definitely shows up in my scores.
  7. I was starting to think they would never raise the prices since the increase was supposed to come over a month ago.
  8. I wouldn't think so. I have a similar looking sit to stand desk and it rocks a little bit from regular usage. I would think a press would move it a lot more.
  9. They have a bunch more in stock now. Get them while they last.
  10. I was able to get federal black box 115s for 12.5 CPR this past black Friday. I would always stock up in the winter on the manufacturer rebates but there haven't been many this year. Although I just got into reloading, I have a ton of factory ammo. I'll give it another month or 2 and hope things stabilize otherwise I'll shoot steel challenge with my 20k 22s for a while.
  11. I'd completely agree with this. I first got into competitive shooting after the Army in IDPA and used my 40 xdm but quickly realized it's expensive and picked up a Glock 17. I shot limited minor after switching to USPSA and 3 gun with a Glock 34 Ive since picked up as factory 9mm was a lot cheaper than 40. This past winter I picked up a Dillon 550 and will return to.40 if the season ever starts up again as the difference in cost from reloading between the two is only 1-2 cents. I've been being tempted into getting a 2011 or maybe the new DWX but I think I'll end up with an 1100 or Evo before that so it can fully feed my next limited blaster.
  12. What I did was buy some large quantities of sorted brass and then sorted the buckets little by little when I had time. For a while brass was super cheap so I just bought it and kept my unsorted range brass for later. Outside of using the shell plates, if that's off the table, I would think you need to find someone with an optical sorter or send it to someone that does. I haven't used the shell plates but Ive seen the videos of them modified and attached to old tumblers and they seem to go pretty fast. For me, I sometimes just need some thoughtless busy time and I'm not a huge TV fan so I just sort brass for a little bit.
  13. I literally just grabbed some from my desk and use those and they work well. I have a couple heavy duty ones that are probably 6 inches in diameter that I use by doubling up the single band on my hand. It's probably not as nice as the actual bands but it works. Figured as my hands get stronger I'll just add more bands.
  14. 500 with youth stock is an amazing deal. I paid around 600 for mine last summer after all the m3ks were sold out and glad I spent a little more as it's a much nicer gun. Dropped another 150 at MOA for a tube and some small parts and love the gun. I've also retired my old Benelli Nova as my hunting rig and hunt the Franchi in the 3 gun off season.
  15. You've gotta counteract the CoC with those rubber bands and flexing your fingers out. Otherwise you end up with tendon issues. I use the #1, do 10 reps and then hold closed for as long as I can. I then turn around and put a rubber band around fingers and flex them out for 15 reps and then hold open for as long as I can.
  16. Does it matter that the taper part on the alpha is less than the Dillon? Newer to reloading and have only used the 9mm drop and need a 40. Was going to order the Dillon one but if this one really is better then I'll pick one of these up instead.
  17. Probably for people who wet tumble and deprime before tumbling?
  18. JDIllon, looks like that's the YouTube edit link not the public link.
  19. Maybe the easiest way is to do your normal wet tumble and dry process and decap a couple cases after you think you're done and check for water. I've found that after I tumble if I put a fan on the brass for a day they are plenty dry. I have the brass up on an old pallet and towel and the air movement drys the brass pretty well.
  20. That new primer system seems amazing. May push me to an Evo over the 1100 for sure especially with the military discount. Gotta start saving to jump on this after the release.
  21. Might be the best deal I've heard of on any Dillon press, great score! I've been on the lookout for a good deal on a 1050 for a while and barely see them go up for sale at a decent price that warrants buying used over new. Your post gives me hope that there are still deals out there haha.
  22. My gear stays in my bag on a shelf in my basement and my belt hangs from one of those bike hooks screwed into my wall.
  23. OP, what made you buy the 1100? If memory serves me you had a 1050 but returned it in frustration and got the Evo. I'm curious to see what drew you to the 1100 over the Evo. I picked up a 550 recently as my first reloader with plans on adding a 1050/1100 in the near future. The 550 to get me started and then hold onto for low usage rounds like my 380. im torn between the Evo or 1100. The only problem I have with an Evo is scope creep and ending up with the Revo.
  24. Check out ups rates, I had my 550 shipped to me via UPS and it was only around $30. I would just fins the smallest box the casefeeder will fit and ship everything else in that box. Most shipping companies focus more on weight than size as long as the size isn't anything crazy such as a few fees long.
