  1. I just shot the last 100rds of the 180 plated and 5.8 unique load yesterday, These were super old, and were done for back when I was shooting glocks. So 5.8 grains and loaded at 1.135. The recoil was stout to say the least. But no pressure signs or anything. I should have chromod them, I’m sure the velocity was very high. And this data was from Lee. I use mostly titegroup and clays now though. But I will say this load was pretty clean. I’m thinking because it was so hot. Unique at lower loads is very dirty in my experience.
  2. I must be also. But no, theres no problem using the uplula with sti mags. Especially if you don’t jam it down hard over the mag.
  3. I always felt like the stock sti grip, or 1911 grip in general was really small. I have pretty big hands, but I wouldn’t say abnormally large, but the stock grip with a magwell is way to busy and small for me. I just bought a Large DVC grip, a big hands magwell and a Svi long flat trigger. Hope it fits better then the stock grip.
  4. I love that Vista. I have a Pantera, and the gun is just perfect. It just runs and runs. When I was going to buy an open gun I debated hard between the vista short, or a used Sti. And I went with the used sti, and I’ve regretted it ever since. My sti is a great gun don’t get me wrong. But the sps is better in every aspect. And now the vista short is unobtainable. Just a few 38s left for sale new.
  5. Ya they didn’t change much. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s worth paying 2k for it, or finding a new S1050 discounted. For 1500 or less, it would be a sweet deal. But i guess if the new RL1100 is that much of an improvement, the few hundred extra is worth it, especially since this should last for the rest of my life..
  6. The 4000 is just for the manual evo press. So yes, if you wanted to add the evolution press you’d have to pay 4K. The evo plus auto drive is like 5-7k.
  7. I think you’re right. They don’t have to production capacity to keep up with sales at 2700. Seems like they’re even having trouble keeping up with orders at 4000. Hopefully after the all the pre orders are filled, and these things actually are in stock to order, the prices will come down.
  8. Have you seen the new Dillion RL1100? Seems to have addressed a few of the “short comings” of the 1050, or made some upgrades. Now my decision is do I buy the rl1100, or do I try and find a cheap super 1050 since they’ll be making room for the new ones. If i could get the press plus mbf for under 2k, my wife would be very happy lol.
  9. Sti apparently has brought some new people in, they brought back Dave Dawson. But this is all recent and i don’t believe any of the changes are showing yet. Still same old problems from them. I’d say a year after bringing in the new people and new polices being implemented we could hope to see the differences in the guns and warranty. I would atleast give don a call. Before I decided on him for my gun I talked to 3 other big smiths, and don just idk said the right things, especially about how it’s ridiculous these open guns are costing 6,000 bucks and 6 months to be done, when it only takes a few days to build the gun, and 1/3rd of cost in parts. These big builders are absolutely gouging us on prices. They’re making 4-5k profit per gun. He doesn’t think that’s right either. For 4K he could build a gun to your specs. Anyway you want it. I’m blown away that he started on mine Thursday and it’ll be done tomorrow. All the other people that have got builds from him have been very happy. I couldn’t be more excited to get it back and shoot it.
  10. Skip the sti, especially for 3999. To many problems reported from people, constant trips back to the manufacturer. From what I’ve seen the problems they have a really stupid too, ones that are due to a lack of attention to detail, and bad QC. For 4K Don at venom customs could build you basically a full custom open gun that will run like a Swiss watch. Built to all your specs. My gun is almost done, mine wasn’t a full build, frame and slide where already fit, but he had to do everything else. He started on it on Thursday, he says it will he done tomorrow (Sunday). Some of the top shooters at nationals were shooting his guns. His prices are incredibly reasonable. But you could also look at a CK, definitely very solid guns, and also very reasonable prices. And they’re will run out of the box. With Sti these days it’s seems like a gun running out of the box is the exception, not the rule.
  11. I agree man. I was also in at 2700. Not at 4000. Like you said, I’ll buy 2 1050s, one in 9mm and one in 40. And I’m sure I’ll put out the same high quality ammo. Once we get to 1000rds per hour capability I’m good. I load on a Lee loadmaster right now and honestly it’s a great press, and I can do 500 rounds per hour while taking my time and my ammo is very consistent and accurate. If the lee is the Ford, and the Dillion is the caddy, I’m sure going up to a 1050 will be great for me. The Mk7 would have been nice, but not for that price. Now the mk7 is the Ferrari, that I can’t afford. I feel like they just lost the a large part of hobbists market at that 4000. Maybe they’re cool with just the commercial guys, and the wealthy hobbists. Hopefully prices will come back down. But it’ll be to late for me. I’m buying a 1050 as soon as we sell our house and move into the new one. Which will hopefully will be next month. I won’t be in the market for another progressive for a long long time.
  12. Ya i couldn’t be more excited to get it back. It was originally a 38 super, and I shot it like that for a while but the brass is so expensive. So i shot 9mm out of the 38 and it actually worked really well. But I wanted to re barrel it and that’s what he’s doing also. So he’s doing a whole bunch of stuff. He fit a new 9mm trubor barrel with a custom cut comptuned it for 9mm, drilled the wholes in the barrel, did the slide cuts, installed a racker, new hammer and sear, new safety, fitted a new grip and a SV trigger. And the last step is refinishing the whole gun. Then I sold my C-more slide ride and am buying either a DPP or a Romeo; with a new mount to really bring the gun up to modern times. It’s gonna be like a brand new gun. I can’t wait to get it back. My builder says to use a 9lb. I use hs-6. I think it’s a good powder. But I’ve also never tried anything else. Will see how it shoots wirh the new custom gun. I don’t think I’ll be changing though.
  13. Why is that? I weighed mine stock and it’s actually pretty light already. I think it was just over 11ozs. I think people like to lighten slides to 10.5. I wonder how much difference there is between 11 and 10.5.
  14. I’m having that done to my trubor as we speak. Slide racker, 2 holes in the barrel and one in the comp, and a little bit of slight lightening. Not a ton though. I know how it shoots stock, so we will see how it shoots when I get it back with all the work done. I’m expecting it to be flatter. Everyone says the holes noticeably tame the gun. Not sure if holes makes it flatter, maybe a little but that’s mostly due to the comp. but the holes taming the gun should change the feel of how it shoots. I’ll report back when I get my trubor back.,
  15. All my gen 2 mags have been 100%. I have 3 in 9mm and 2 in 40. They ran right out of the package, no tuning or anything required. I hope they’re not getting rid of them. Maybe I’ll stick up on another 10 for each caliber. That should last me the rest of my life.
  16. I agree, if you don’t buy it now, you’ll eventually buy one, and after spending all that money on building the open Glock. I ran an open Glock for a while. and I really liked it. Then I decided to “get my feet wet” in the world of 2011s, bought a SPS Pantera. I was never a big 40 shooter so I thought I’d just mess around with it. A month later I was buying a 2011 open gun. The triggers are that good. Everything about them is that good. There’s a ton of good deals on open guns in the classifieds right now.
  17. Total I have 2 170s, and 3 140s. I’d like to add 1 155 to my tool box for when it would be benifical. On my belt I have 2 140s, and 1 170 in the back pouch Incase something happens very early on with ny starting 170 and I have to drop it. I typically always start with the 170, and reload to the 140. The 170 I use in matches holds 30, my other 29. (Both MBX), the140s I reload to hold 24-25 ( all sti gen 2).
  18. I would have bought a mk 7 at 2750. the 1050 plus bullet feeder is about 2000-2200. I could have justified the difference of 500-750, but not 2000 difference. Even at 3000 I probably would have gone for it. But 2200 is already pushing it for me, 3000 would really be. 4000, no way. I’m very persuasive, but even I couldn’t pursaude my wife into why we need a 4000 press. I’m sure the 1050 will put out high quality ammo, and very quickly for many years to come. Maybe in like 10 years when I’m midway though my career and hopefully at a higher position with a much higher salary. I wonder if it will make financial sense long term for them. I do these types of analysis all day at work. Just for a basic example say at 2750 say 100 people would have bought it making them in total sales, 275k. And say at 4000 per unit they exclude 50% of that potential customer base and 50 sales nets them 200k profit, so they make less. In order for them to make the same amount of money they would have made at 2750, they could only lose at most 30% of buyers, as 70 sales would net them 280k, but in order to actually increase revenue with the price increase, they’d have to retain 80-90% of the targeted audience. I’m not sure they lost only 10% with that price increase. The free market always works, so will have to see what the price does after the initial pre orders get fulfilled an the initial hype dies down.
  19. Honestly, I did my G34 slide and for a long time before putting a comp on it I used a kydex holster exclusively. And there isn’t a single scratch of sign of holster wear. I had read prior to doing it that cerakote was really durable, and my experience confirmed it. But since getting on here I read all these stories of it not being durable and wearing fast. My experience is/was great with it. I must had drawn from my kydex holster thousands and thousands of times with it an it looks as good as they day I had it done. Then when I put the comp on I obviously couldn’t use a regular holster anymore and went to a race holste , an 014, and wirh that I can’t imagine it will ever wear. I’m actually in the process of getting my 2011 cerakoted now. Cerkote, 50-100 bucks, DLC or PVD, 600. I could re cerakote my gun every year if it actually did wear and still save money. With a race holster I don’t expect the finish to wear at all.
  20. I think I have two more already. Just haven’t bothered changing them. The TTIs are a pain in the ass to take off. If they were as easy as my 2011 mags I would have done it a long time ago.
  21. I have two of them myself, the +5/6. One does not lock the slide back when empty, the other does. Both feed fine though. I haven’t had any issues there. I can only think the reason the one doesn’t lock back is the spring is weak. Even though I’m using the extra power that came with it, and they are very new.
  22. They look like old SV mags, which is great. Really good mags. But at the same time they look like sps mags because the rib goes so far down to the base of the mag . If you look at this pick, from left to right, the mags are SV, SV, SPS, STI. And as you can see only the SPS mags rib goes all the way to the bottom. The SV mags rib stops like 1/2-3/4 of an inch from the bottom. I have two sps mags and they’re great.
  23. I ran an open Glock for a while, it was 100% reliable. I had the sand carver 4 port, it’s defintiely an effective comp. But all my pins would walk out after like 2 mags. My trigger pin would literally be 2/3rds the way out because of how violent 9 major is. I thought my Glock shot flat, until I shot a 2011 open gun. Now the Glock feels like a grenade in my hand. My load was also hs-6 and a 124, approx 7.5g with a 124g blue bullet, I was shooting a g34, so I had another inch on the barrel for velocity. And we were using the same comp, so I bet I know exactly how that load feels. It really works they comp. Open glocks work, mine just ran and ran. There’s nothing wrong with them if that’s what you got. Being that they’re so light is where I think it’s not an optimal platform. The heavier metal frame 2011s really tame 9 major. But if you like it, keep shooting it. I still have mine for backup.
  24. Damn, that’s a smoking deal. Usually just the grip is 650 bucks. Their grip looks nice. If I needed a frame I would have went that same route. I may start slowly collecting parts for my next build. Probably won’t be for a year or two, but slowly buying all the parts will be less of a shock to the bank account lol.
  25. Don just started working on my gun today and already made a ton of progress. Fitted and chambered the 9mm barrel, the slide racker, new grip, SV trigger, tri topped the slide and comp, and started on some of the slide cuts. He’s also gonna add 2 holes in the barrel, and one in the comp, then fit a new extreme hammer, and sear. Then the last step is to refinish the gun. I’m thinking a gray, with black controls. And eventually TIN the barrel. If only I could swing a PT eco grip, but funds won’t allow it at the moment. I think it looks awesome so far, and I can’t wait to see how it shoots
