  1. I’ve thought about another Glock. So 600 bucks for the gun, 150-200 for a barrel to shoot lead, 200 for a trigger, sights, magwell. I have a Glock 23, and it really doesn’t handle the 40 very well IMO. I’m sure a long slide would be better. But I think a metal gun would be even better. But ya another glock would be simple to get used it. And I can do all the work myself. Already have some mags for it. Tough decision.
  2. Thanks for the explanation. Looks like you pretty much did exactly what I’ve been thinking. I think ill skip the rock island and go to the pantera. From everything I’ve read, and watched on YouTube they seem like a solid gun. And they seem to run right out of the box. What I don’t understand about the rock island is the 10mm is only $602, but the 40 is 875. If the 40 was $602 I’d probably buy that just to see if I liked the 1911 style platform. But if I’m going to spend almost a grand on a rock, I might as well spend 300 bucks more and get a pantera. But now I’m looking at a few used sti edge type guns for 1500. So the the question is used sti, or brand new sps?
  3. Ya, that’s what I’m worried about. I like Glocks, I can do all the work on them myself. Got tons of spare parts, mags, holsters. I understand them very well and know what’s compatible with what. Where’s the 1911s I’m lost. I was looking at what I takes to do a trigger job, stoning the sear and hammer, and fitting safety’s and barrels. I’d have to have a smith do all the work. I like being able to work in my guns.
  4. Ya I’m kinda worried about not progressing with either, just staying mediocre with both since they’re so different. I probably should just save my money, but I’m itching to buy one. I’m thinking the Rock island, but it’s not even that cheap. 825 was the cheapest I saw, and the pantera around 1400. And if I go for the pantera I might as well just spend a few hundred more and buy an Sti. I don’t know what to do.
  5. Hey guys, As the title says I’m thinking about trying a 2011 style gun. I currently shoot a g34 open gun. So I’m thinking about something in 40. What I’m looking at is either a SPS pantera, looks very comparable to an sti edge. Or the RIA armscor tac ultra pro match. I really like glocks and I’m going to continue shooting them. So this is kind of to test the waters with the other platform. So part of me thinks I should get the rock island cause it’s cheaper, and if I don’t like it It’s not a huge deal. But the other part of me thinks well if I do buy the rock and I like it I’m going to want to upgrade to something better so I might as well just buy the pantera so I’d spend less money in the long run. Then I think we’ll if I’m going to spend 1300-1400 on one of those I might as well hold out for a nice used edge. Which I assume most people will suggest anyways. Let’s put aside the edge for a minute and talk about the rock and the sps, and my specific situation of testing the waters. My other question is has anyone shot both at the same time? Or are they just to different and to do well one would need to commit to one or the other? Shooting the 2011 in limited and my Glock in open and range fun. I’ll probably end up going to a 2011 in 9 major in a year or so, or maybe longer. But I wanna keep shooting my Glock for a while. I guess I’m kinda scared I’m going to like it so much my glocks will start collecting dust.
  6. Ya I agree the kkm barrels are the best. I went ahead and bought a threaded one with a carver 3 port comp. and a 11lb and 13lb recoil springs. I hope one of those run well. I have about 10k flawless rounds through the gun. I know when you start adding comps and stuff it can take some time to find the right parts to make it run smooth. Maybe in the winter when it’s cold I’ll send it out to get Tin coated. And I looked into lone wolf and found what you were talking about. They’ll coat anything for like 40 bucks. I thought about it but I kept reading about tight/short chambers with them, then I read on here that it’s next to impossible to ream the alpha wolf chambers. So I went with the tried and true kkm. I love my current one, so I’m sure the new one with be great too. Thanks for the help DK.
  7. I have one, the guy who built my trigger sent it with both the 4 and the 4.5. How much different will it make with the trigger pull? I can’t imagine much being just 1/2 pound heavier. He said the same thing though, if you go up to the 4.5 i could use wins. Next time there’s a shortage I’ll give it a shot. But I think I have enough federal for 8 months or so.
  8. I agree, the gen 4 triggers ars just terrible. How they messed up so bad I’ll never know. The gen 3s ars much better. I have a Johnny Glock in my 34, and when he built that I took my stock one from my 34 and put it in my 19. I swear the gen 4 34 trigger was better then the gen 4 19. But ya it’s definitely worth swapping them out. I bet it will improve it. .

    Gritty take up

The trigger on my gen 4 g19 is just terrible. It was made even worse with a zev v4 race connector. They really screwed up on the gen 4 triggers. Gen 3 was much better. I just did the polish job, and a spring kit. Stock connector cause as I said the after market one I bought was worse. It’s ok now, definitely shootable. If you ever want a really nice trigger, about as close to a 1911 as you can get with a Glock look into johnny custom glocks triggers. I been running his on my g34 for about a year. It’s still no 1911, but it’s as close as it will get. No take up, crisp break and minimal over travel and short reset. And all 3 safety’s still work, which you don’t always get with the different kits. And it breaks at 2.5lbs. It’s a really nice trigger. I’m about to have him build me another but with a rolling break this time instead of a definied wall like a 1911.
  10. I might have to try .357 then. I usually get the .356 in hi tek coating. I really like them cause they’re cheaper then the blue bullets and they shoot well. I get the hi tek for .55 cents, compared to the blue bullets at about .75. Really pretty minuscule difference. But it adds up over time. The blue bullets are great though IMO. And they’re made right in the town I live in. Might have to go stop in and see how many id have to buy to get them for closer to 5 cents a piece.
  11. Honestly I’ve never had very good luck with lWinchester primers. 3/10 light strikes with my 4lb striker spring. So I buy federal exclusively for my comp gun. Just bought another 10k yesterday. My smith said get a extended jager striker and they will light off even the hardest primers. Problem is o can’t fjnd any extended ones, just the lightened ones, and he said those are no good. Not heavy enough to carry enough momentum to light harder primers, id really like to find one though so I don’t have to always buy fed primers. Theyrd really hard to get. Win are plentiful.
  12. So it depends on the type of coating. Have you seen the blue bullets, it has a thick polymer coating, basically a polymer jacket. Those are totally fine, you’ll have no issues with the stock barrel. But the hi tek coating that a lot of people are making these days are kind of ifffy imo. They’re still really dirty in my guns. I wouldn’t trust them. I had a kaboom with lead in a Glock. Gun was fine, except the mag release and the mag. I was shooting a mix of coated lead and regular cast lead. So I been weary ever since then. But my guy who makes the hi tek bullets says he’s been shooting them in glocks for ever. So imo it depends on how thick the coating is.
  13. Hey guys and gals, I’m in the process of buying a threaded barrel so can run a comp. I have a KKM barrel right no (not threaded) and I love it. It’s been 100% reliable and it’s far more accurate then I am. I hate to stop using it, but I need a threaded barre, obvious choice is another kkm barrel. I been taking to Bobby carver and he’s suggested his 3 port comp over thd sjc 5 port. But I really want a gold barrel. My slide has 4 windows on each side now, and it’s tactical grey. So gold would look great. So the only options are the double diamond from Glock store, or the s3f, which I hear good things about. But I can’t find anything from people who shoot 9 major from them. My question is are the chambers long enough to load out to 1.15-1.17, and are they fully supported? My stock kkm has no problem with loads that long. I don’t want to have to bring the barrel to a smith to have it reamed. I’d love to have it drop right in like my current one. So has anyone used s3f or double diamond barrels? My orher question is alpha wolf. Bobby says they’re g2g, but I read a lot of mixed reviews on here about lone wolf and short chambers. The black barrel would look good with. My grey slide. Seems like alpha wolf is a different or premium line vs lone wolf. So has anyone used the alpha wolf barrels? I appreciate any help y’all can provide..
  14. Hello all, I’ve been reading this forum for a few years and finally decided to join. Been shooting for a long time, a lot of long range precision until about a year ago when I’ve really taken an interest shooting pistols and improving my skills. Ive always shoot pistols two, but didn’t put the time and effort in to really improve like I did in PRS. I’ve shot some two gun, but that’s it competition wise that involves a pistol. I found a range that hosts USPSA matches locally and I want to get started in it. I have a coach here locally who’s a GM, talks about Brian Enos a lot, and about the year he beat him (96 or 97) don’t know what match but it was a big one. His name is Larry Brown If anyone knows him. But he’s been a good resource in getting Started here. but I’m hear to learn a lot and ask some questions. Right now I run a Glock 34, with a Burris ff3 mounted on the slide, KKM barrel, Johnny custom Glock 2.5lb trigger and some other stuff. After reading these forums I’m itching to buy a 2011, but man are they expensive! Looks like the trubor was a great deal and in my price range but I’m late to that party as it’s discontinued. Been looking through the classifieds for a used trubor or open gun as I keep reading good deals pop up but haven’t seen much. Gonna soak up as much info as I can this weekend while we ride out hurricane Florence
