  1. And here she is. It seriously looks even better in person. Really a piece of art. It’s essentially a new gun, the only thing original is the frame and slide. New trigger shoe and bow, hammer, sear, disconnector, spring etc. new infinity Ambi safety’s, new grip, magwell, barrel, slide racker, Everything has been blended and then refinished. The only other thing I want to do is have the barrel a Tin coated. I think the gold will look awesome with the gray. I decided to really bring this gun up to modern times and sell my slide ride and replace it with a new sig Romeo and an Everglades mount. That should be here Friday. I really love the slide rides, but being that 9mm can be a little finicky, I thought ditching it for a micro dot and the smaller mount would ensure perfect reliability. Gonna develop a load with hs-6 and some 124g jhp, either PD, Everglades or RMR. Got some Everglades coming, so will see how they shoot. My guess is with the holes it’ll take around 7.8-8g of hs-6 for major.
  2. T minus 1 hour until work is over and I can go to fedex and pick up my gun. Can’t friggen wait. Then my new 6 moa Romeo 1, and Everglades mount and Everglades 124g v2 Jhp should be here Friday
  3. I first spoke to him on here, then we set up a time to talk on the phone about what I wanted to do. On here his name is donnyglock. Shoot him a message.
  4. Ya I’m not that worried about the load being soft like I would with my limited gun. What I want is it to shoot flat, and the dot to track consistently. I’ve always felt my past loads with hs-6 hate been good, so I’m gonna finish up the 8lbs I got, unless it really just doesn’t shoot well with this new setup which i doubt. But when I finish this I might buy a few different powders and try out some new loads.
  5. Ohh you were saying don’t put a 3rd hole. Will see. I’m probably not even a good enough shooter to notice. I’m sure it’ll shoot pretty flat with the 2 holes and the comp. before as a 38 it was pretty flat by my standards, tracked well. I came from a Glock, so when I first shot my trubor I was like holy s#!t, this is night and day. I thought my Glock shot well, and flat. After going to the trubor the Glock felt like a hand grenade going off. So I’ll most likely leave it as is. I’m thinking this comp with just 3 ports/chambers will do well with the two holes.
  6. I was actually gonna buy some of the Everglades 9 major ammo. Had to take my press down while we sold our house so I couldn’t load any. But decided not to buy any of it. Glad I didn’t, sounds harsh. Luckily we got an offer on the house yesterday, so I set my press back up and loaded up some 124 blues with 7.8g hs -6. 7.4 was around 155pf when shooting 9 out of my 38 barrel before sending it to the smith, so I’m hoping 7.8 will be 168-170ish. My smith said to use a 9lb spring, so I have that plus a 7. So will see what works best. As for a for a 3rd hole, if I did one in the comp I’d definitely go bigger then a 3/16th. Honestly, I think I could do that one myself, a hole in the comp. it’s not like drilling holes in the barrel. My father in law has a CNC machine, so depending on how it shoots with the current setup, if I feel I need more I’ll drill that one myself. As for the FPS loss with holes, I think I’ve read some posts from guys who did that, one guy lost 40 FPS from two holes, another said about 25fps per hole. how do you like major pistol powder? Lot of people have been recommending it. After I finish up my 8lbs of hs-6 I may try some new powders. Unless I just really like how hs-6 feels in this “new” gun. Ive always really likes hs-6, but will see. I’m pissed, fedex tried to deliver my gun and I wasn’t home, so I have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up at the hub. I think after work I’m gonna go grab it and then go straight to the range.
  7. I really like hs-6. But it’s also the only powder I’ve used for 9 major. But it shoots so well I’ve never felt the need to experiment with anything else. It didn’t fill the case up all the way either so it’s easy to load. Somewheee between 7.3-8g will make major with a 124g bullet. 8.3-9 for a 115. Tons of data out there on it from people on this forum. In my old open Glock with I think it was a 5.5 inch barrel 7.5 made major with a jacketed bullet, and 7.3 with coated lead. With my 5 inch trubor it takes more. 7.8 or so. Good stuff though.
  8. Ohh, yes, 38sc changes things. I assumed you were running 9 major. So ya totally different, 8.5 is probably a perfectly normal load for 38sc. I don’t know anything about reloading for that.
  9. If you didn’t see any significant primer flattening, then it should be fine. But no need to go up to 185pf, unless that’s load that feels and tracks best for you. So you were using win SPP with 8.5 hs-6 wirh a blue bullet? I have pictures of my primers that I’ll find her in a minute, with 125g blue bullet, and 7.5g hs-6. They showed just a little bit of flattening. Not really much at all. I imagine if I went up to 8.5 in my weather/altitude etc, they would have been very flat. The pic below of the gold primers is Winchester spp after firing, load was around 7.5g hs-6 125g blue bullet, approx 45-50 degrees out, and around sea level. The first pic of the silver primers, the super flat ones are the same exact load, same day same conditions but with fed SPP. They’re way to soft. And the last pics is also the same day, same exact load etc but with fed SRP. These look the best imo. No flattening or any signs of pressure. I’m gonna try to stick with these going forward.
  10. I see a lot of people using AA7, and a s#!t load of it at that. Kinda interests me with 115s. What kinda small pistol primers are you using. I’ve even used federal, the softest of soft, and the loads ran fine. They were extremely flat though, and then with the same load going to a harder SPP or even a fed SRP they weren’t flat at all. Going forward I’m gonna stock with SRPs.
  11. I told my smith to dream up whatever slide cuts and designs he could think of and the tri topping was part of that. I didn’t even think about a tri topped comp. but I think it came out pretty dang cool. As for the comp design, Eric said his design is the flattest he’s ever felt. So will see. I debated on not doing holes, but my smith and I agreed it wouldn’t hurt, it could only make it better. We were gonna put one more in in the comp before the big first chamber starts, but decided to hold off until I see how it shoots. I’m about to start working up a load with the Everglades 124g v2 jhp. Probably gonna stick with hs-6 cause I have a brand new 8lb jug, and I just spend all my money having the gun redone. Maybe after I finish that, or atleast half of it I’ll try something else. Although I’ve always been very happy with how hs-6 shoots.
  12. I use the same brass for major, win, blazer, FC, mostly, then I’ll allow R-P, Speer, PNC. Everything else goes in the minor bucket, including perfecta. The only ones I toss is any stepped cases, and FM. typically after the 3rd or so firing the brass I use for major rounds also go oh the minor bucket, or loaded for lost brass matches or practice when it’s super wet and gross and I leave the brass. From time to time I’ll sort by headstamp and my oal is a bit more consistent. I’m gonna take my powder check off today and seat and crimp separate and see if it helps. I can see the 8gs of hs-6 in the case so it’s not as crucial. I really like it for when I’m loading my wife’s 9mm ammo, as 3gs of titegroup is tiny. Same for 40, 4.5 grains is next to nothing in that big case. So that’s when I really value the powder check. I’m really excited for getting the 1050 and bullet feeder. Right now I put out around 500 per hour on my loadmaster, so if I can double that on the 1050 I’d be really happy.
  13. That’s a ton of powder for a 125g blue bullet. I know cause I shoot 125g blues and hs-6. Did you chrono that load? In my old 5.5inch Glock 7.3 made 170pf. In my 5 inch trubor it was around 155. I just loaded up 7.7, and I except that to get me close to 170. I would think 8.5 would be way way up their.
  14. Here’s how my trubor came out. Really looks like a totally different gun. I haven’t shot it yet, hopefully either Wednesday or Thursday. I’ll let you know how it shoots with the holes in the barrel and the lighter slide.
  15. Since the comp and barrel are once piece, to change the comp you’d have to fit a whole new barrel. Which is expensive. I’d definitely try a combo of load, springs, poppel holes first.
  16. I’m just now making the move from a slide ride to a micro dot. Not an RTS2, but a Romeo, so pretty similar. Hopefully I like it, cause I sold my cmore lol.
  17. Ya that’s the difference. I love to reload. It’s only second to shooting. I try and have something to load every night. My wife has a couch and TV in my reloading room cause that’s where I spend my time. She watches tv and I load. Pistol, rifle, ARs, precision bolt guns. I love it all. Trying new loads, tweaking then to get just a little more accuracy. I love it. I hate case prep though. Hate trimming rifle brass, and I hate sorting pistol brass I pickup at the range. My wife does the sorting, and I give her an unlimited amount of ammo to shoot. My right arm and shoulder has built up extra stamina from pulling that level. It’s reallt evident when I push though size my 40 brass prior to loading the first time. The single stage I use for that is on the opposite side of my bench so Its all backwards, so I have to pull the lever with my left arm, and I have to take breaks every 25-50rds, cause my left arm and shoulder gets tired from pulling the lever, and my right arm and shoulder get tired from picking up and placing shells. My body is soo used to doing the opposite. But I really enjoy reloading. It’s a hobby in itself.
  18. This has been my dilemma also. I really value my powder check die, it’s caught a few squibs for me, and a double charge or two. I haven’t had a squib round since getting my powder check (20k rounds later). Before that I had one every few thousand. I already seat and crimp at the same station so I can use my powder check. And i really don’t have any issues at all. But I would like to separate those steps and that’s why I liked the mk7. 10 stations is awesome. To bad the new Dillion didn’t add another one. When I move to the 1050 I’ll probably continue to seat and crimp at the same station, or I’ve seen people set up back up cameras that look directly into the case after the powder drop and show on a tablet. Maybe that could be a substitute for the powder check, since I could look into the case without having to move and look into each one on the press. I think the one disadvantage of combing the two steps seems to be searing depth variance. Today I was measuring my first few rounds coming off the press to verify my Oal and I was getting rounds between 1.165-1.172. Tomorrow I’ll take the powder check out and seat and crimp separately and see if has less variance, if not, I’ll have no problem combing them going forward. I get a nice consistent crimp though even with the combo die. Right now I use a Lee. Maybe a higher quality combo die like a Redding can give me more consistent oals. Will see.
  19. I’m not really sure what the problem was that first day. But 4000rds later the gun has been absolutely flawless. I think the mag catch was just a little to big for the hole on the mags. And it looked like the basepads was hitting the magwell just a little bit. Is yours a 40? Cause the factory mags are 16rds. I added Dawson IPSC basepads for, and taran ultra thin followers and got them up to 18rds. I use them for practice and stuff but they’ve been 100% reliable. Then I got 2 mbx mags, also been 100%. And 2 sti gen 2 mags with grams guts and Dawson basepads and they also have been 100%. Those are my favorite and going forward I’ll only be buying the sti gen 2s. Mbx ars great for 9, because the short overall length can be a pain to get to run 100% reliably, so they’re worth the extra money. But 40s super easy to get to feed and run reliably. So the sti work great and I prefer them. I’d pick up a Dawson mag catch just to prevent over insertion. Don’t want to break an ejector. I also got one of the Brazos drop in trigger groups, really what they are is extreme engineering parts which are top notch. All tool steel machines bar stock parts. Drop in 1.5lb crips trigger pull now. Not that the stock trigger wasn’t good. Mine was around 2.5lbs. But I just wanted to make sure those critical parts were high quality steel.
  20. For 3k or under with 3 mags, I’d say it’s a prettty sweet deal. Especially if it’s the new one with the black barrel and new grip, and RTS2. It’s a pretty cool looking gun.
  21. The hybrids are clearly flatter. It’s tough to say which of the two are flatter based off the video. I wanna say the short comp gun, first In the video was the flattest. But it’s close. Which felt best to you?
  22. Once he starts it, it’ll be done in no time. The only thing he didn’t have to do with mine is slide to frame fitting. Took him 3-4 days to do everything else. I can’t wait to get the gun back and go shoot it.
  23. And this is what don did. He basically build me a new gun, the only thing reused was the slide and frame. Pretty much all the internals are new, along with everything else. Fit barrel Take down middle of barrel Chamber and throat. Flat top slide & comp Mill front of slide. . 0150 Tri top comp and slide front Brazos racker cut and fit. Top and side cuts on slide. 2 3/16 holes and slot. Front slot cuts through slide. New grip Fit trigger to grip Trigger group. Trig job. Used infinity ambi safeties Blend slide to frame, extractor, grip safety and pin grip safety. Sear spring l Paint the slide, frame, comp and magwell gray, controls black. Im probably forgetting a few things. The gun was originally a 38 super. So originally I just wanted to fit a new 9mm barrel. And it eventually turned into all this. I can’t wair to start load development for 9 major. Got some Everglades V2 124g jhp on the way. And I’ll be using hs-6. I assume I’ll end up around 7.7-7.8gs for 170-172ish pf.
  24. So don sent me the finished pictures today and I’m blown away at his work. It looks like a totally different gun. He started on it I think it was Thursday, and had it done by Sunday. That’s a fast turn around. I’m already dreaming up my next build with him. I think I’m gonna slowly start buying parts over the next 6 months and get everything together for a kkm hybrid Barrel build with a Pt evo grip . Probably close to a full dustcover. Here’s some pics of the finished product. I’ll post one of a before pic also. The only thing the pics is missing is the new black Everglades Romeo mount, and the dot. I think the black mount will look great with the black controls on my gun.
