  1. Sounds like we are loosing the "Free" in free style with that new ruling for 2008. I love designing stages with multiple ways to solve them. Kudos to you for solving it your way. I hate the word "Gaming", I think it is a word invented by someone who could not shoot very well.
  2. I wish I could get a refund on my tickets to that one. I agree it really sucked.
  3. I have a P-16 and a P-18 both with the power extractor. They both work flawlessly. What is the exact problem you friend has? Is it failure to feed a live round or failure to extract a spent case. I can only immagine a lack of tension caused by something missing in the assembly. It seems to reason that maybee someone removed the extractor and when removing the claw, the detent between the claw and spring took off. That spring is one hefty little spring and I cant immagine that thing loosing tension (unless the detent is missing). When new, my P-18 had a few feed issues with the extractor bieng too tight. It was the relationship of the two extractor parts bieng tight and a few passes over the burrs with a tiny file smoothed it up and cured the problem. Brownells carries Para parts.
  4. I had the same problem with my 771's and cured it by getting a bicycle innertube ( the really narrow diameter style for a road bike) and cutting a 1 1/2" section with scissors and stretching it over the mag holder. The mag would push against it if I bumped the mag and it acted like a spring and pushed it back into place. I never had one fall out after that.
  5. MEOPTA I have the Meopta and also a Aimpoint comp ML3 with 3x magnifier with the Larue flip mount. The Meopta was less expensive and superior for 3-gun competition. The Aimpoint set up does have a cool factor to it though, and is fun to use.
  6. That unfortunetly will probably result in that person never returning to another USPSA shooting tournament. That is a shame as we should be doing everything possible to encourage not discourage all shooters.
  7. Funny thing is in 7 years I have yet to see one of those we dont want to offend at a match. I was however greatly offended at a local match once. I made the mistake of wearing a pair of designer type camo shorts (the type you can buy at walmart) that in no way looked military, para military or otherwise. I took so much flak over that from club members, extremely rude and threatening (some of witch were board members) that I have not shot with them scince. I did not rejoin their club and I did not rejoin USPSA. After a couple years I did rejoin USPSA. I wonder how many others have been turned away from our sport by similar experiances due to a poorly written "recomendations" in our rule book. If it is a rule book it should have rules, not recomendations. Now I wear anything so long as it is tastefully designed, those mag pouches are in my opinion very tastfully designed.
  8. First hand experiance here with Federal .40 Brass. Bought 2000 rds of once fired brass from a reputable source and head stamp was predomenently "Federal" with a few "FC" thrown in. Loaded my recipe of MG 180 at 169pf and at about the 300th rd "Ka-boom". No damage to me or the gun but the case was seperated and the shell caseing left in the chamber sans head. Beilieve it or not the Para power extractor pulled the case out without a head when hand cycled. The seperated head found about 10 feet away had "FC" on it. I chalked it up to S@#$ happens and continued on. At the very next match on the second stage, you guessed it "Ka-boom". This time my hand hurt, and it blew the basepad (a Dawson) out the bottom of the gun along with the guts and about 18rds of ammo. All piled up neetly at my feet, including the headstamp which, you guessed it is marked "FC". I inspected the rest of my loads and culled all the "FC" headstamps and have not had a problem scince. My hand tingled for a few minutes and was fine, the para mag and Dawson basepad was re-assembled and is still in use. And that PXT extractor again removed the rimless case when hand cycled.
  9. Sorry I have not figured out how to insert a topic link. But if you go to shotgun technical discusion and do a search on sights look for the topic "M2 vent Rib Rear Sight" started by me and it details my rear sight.
  10. 10" electric miter saw with a fine 60-80 tooth carbide blade and go slow. We cut aluminum all the time at work like that and it makes as clean a cut thru aluminum as you will find.
  11. I agree with most of the posts also but would like to add that He man (heavy metal) just by virtue of its name is a field that the firearms used should be more challenging to employ (Difficult) than in other divisions. And with all three firearms. Rifle of .308, Iron sighted and 20 rds max loaded (who cares if it can hold more), Pump shotgun of 12g with a max capacity of 9, Any .45 pistol with 8+1 or 10+1. I believe these are distinct enough differences. I for one do not care much for pump shotguns, Autos are much more fun to me, but a pump is more difficult and challenging. I really like pistols that hold 23rds as I find mag changes a time waister. And dang does a .308 kick compared to my tricked out .223. So this posses the question to myself, why do I like He-Man/Heavy Metal so much?
  12. No I would not think so. The classifiers dont work for me as they do not reflect match performance. After all match performance and a comparable skill level of those you compete against is what it is all about anyway right? If I stay in "C" class and after 6 years of shooting this sport I show up and win the "C" class against true "C" class shooters the guy behind me is not too happy (crying sandbagger) when he sees hes lost to someone who finished close to the top. And Im not to thrilled with a "C' win when it should have been an "A". I do not have the opportunity to shoot classifiers very often at all as there are not many available to me. I have e-mailed my match director about this and am anxious to hear from him.
  13. I fall into that 5-10% who it does not work for. I am not a sandbagger but I have not shot enough classifiers to reflect my tru skill level. I am currently classified "C" class and have several first place plaques reflecting this, even though I finished ahead of the "A" class winners. I also shoot 3-gun extensively and always place in with the "M" and "GM" finishers. After re viewing all the matches I have competed in I would place myself as an "A" shooter and may petition my area directer to move me up. Having said all that the system does seem to work accurately for the majority, and with the ability to request a move up (as I have learned from this thread) in certain instances it may indeed accomodate everyone and needs little change.
  14. Maybee it was the perspective of loosing that got you. Think you can or think you can't, either way your right. (Not my quote but I like it non the less). A great illustration of that is in the movie the greatest game ever played. Frances Quimet is about to hit the ball, sees his dad then falls appart. For me it was a powerful scene as I used to be like that shooting tournaments. Now I try to relax no matter what and focus on bieng confident and possitive. For me that has been the hardest obstacle to overcome in shooting tournaments.
  15. It was 12 shots, not 8. I would like to see how fast he could hit 12 Poppers.
  16. Hopalong I remember reading somewhere that some manufacturers of AR15's use the same reamers for their military and civilian barrels and mark Military barrels with 5.56 and civilian with .223. I would recomend contacting the manufacturer and asking them.
  17. Is it in the Rules? Not in my green book. Rule 9.3 on page 60 states something to the effect, in the event the match director determines a tie exists a shoot off of sorts must take place. (My words not USPSA'S) I could find no mention of scoring area hits as a determining factor for tie breaking.
  18. I would like to see a rule that stated if a sling is on a weapon it must be used. Not left dangling off the gun or it must be removed. The single worst day RO'ing a stage was when a competitor snagged his dangling sling on a prop and it spun him around 180 degrees with his muzzle pointed right at ME. I did my best imitation of an earth worm and stopped him immediatly. After spitting the sand out of my mouth we had a little chat (I was nice). Scince then I have had anyone with a sling use it or remove it. Most opt to remove it.
  19. Two texas stars at 15 yds, two stop plates, no timers just a start buzzer, one on one elimination, with the shotgun.
  20. Thats interesting. So is the 1/10 twist the only twist rate offered up for the AR10 platform? What do any of the other heavy caliber battle rifles use like the FAL, M1A, G3,? Thanks for any and all responses.
  21. Maybe we should change the division name to "Limited optic" and do away with the confusion about "Tactical".
  22. I found lots of info on the .223/5.56 twist and bullet recomendations and know it well. I am fairly new to the .308/7.62. So, My new DPMS TAC20 has a 1/10 twist barrel with cryo treatment, I see bullet weights from 110 up to about 180 with 147/150 most common for FMJ/Mil. Is there a similar rule of thumb as to what should shoot most accurate in a 1/10 twist. I am not trying to get around testing different bullets/loads just wanting to educate myself to some others experiances to shorten the learning curve as she is expensive to feed.
  23. I agree about the jet fighter scene. I am very forgiving about creative license in the movies, but, well I dont want to give it away. It was good but the original still beats it. Still use the line "welcome to the party pal".
