  1. Yes it is marked FC on the most recent blow up. The other one is unknown as the head was not found. About 4 out of 100 cases in this lot are marked FC the rest are marked Federal. I also cut one case of each for a cross section of the construction of the head and primer pocket. The case head thickness of the FC was .166 and the Federal was .174. I also measured a winchester case and it measured .178. A little les scientific is the FC case seemed to cut very easily. I had to apply more force and took more effort to cut thru the Federal and Winchester cases.
  2. Had my second case head failure with the same lot of brass yesterday. Gun is a Para P-16 Limited with Dawson magwell and base pads. Load is Federal (supposedly) once fired nickel Brass that the seller had roll sized.Loaded with a 180 gr FMJ over 5.3 gr Bullseye. The first seperation was uneventful, the gun simply went bang with a slightly different sound so I stopped shooting to rack the slide and the remains of the case were stuck in the chamber sans case head. Released slide and retracted again and the rest of case ejected (gotta love that Para PXT) and the gun was fine. Yesterdays was more dramatic, the gun made a differet sounding bang and proceded to blow the Dawson base pad, spring, follower and the remaining 17 rounds out of the gun. and my left index finger and thumb were stinging. The case was bulged and shredded at the bottom with a piece peeled down and laying flat on the barrel ramp. the case head was located on the ground in the neet little pile of bullets and mag parts at my feet. it looked to be in perfect shape and showed no signs of overpressure around the primer, it was simply cleanly sheered around the inside portion of the extractor groove. My hand was fine just a little rattled. After inspecting the gun and magazine everything looked good. I put it all back together and switched to factory ammo and shot the next stage using it. Needless to say I am not using that brass any longer.
  3. My son Dalton has been attending matches with me scince he was 6yrs old. mostly watching, pasting and resetting targets and scrounging brass for me. Getting safety lessons along the way. I never force him to go. At home I set up airsoft targets and simulated stages that I use to teach basic safety and gun handling skills. He has heard the words "Watch your muzzle" and "Finger of the trigger" more than a few times. He loves to shoot the stages. Yesterday when we went to our monthly match I brought a Walther P22 as a surprise for him after the match. We set up on a range that had a bunch of steel and after a quick safety briefing and instruction he was blasting away at the steel. After about 400 rounds he was not only hitting the steel with great regularity he was hitting them fast. I had to keep telling him to slow down a notch. When we were done he said to me "Dad, that was totaly AWESOME." The smile on his face was priceless. I have shot a lot of club matches and totally love the shooting, yesterday with Dalton was the best, and proudest accomplishment to date.
  4. I have been using bullets by ATFIC in Nevada. They are on par with MG bullets I have used in the past. Last price list I have lists 9mm 124 Fmj gold at 54.95 per 1000 including shipping. I just ordered 40 sw and the price had not changed since my last order. In 40 sw in my Para limited gun I get 1-1/4" 10 shot groups at 25 ft.
  5. A History of Violence My wife brought this home the other day and I almost didn't watch it. Vigo mortensen shows some pretty cool gun handling skills in this movie. Also stars Ed Harris and William Hurt. Maybe not the classics you all mentioned but worth a look.
  6. 13/14 the Ruger got me too. The ruger and RPG are the only two I have not handled/Fired in my lifetime. I have seen RPg,s never the ruger.
  7. I have two. one in the garage and one in my gun room room.
  8. I tried several brands of cleats. Land sharks included and all hurt my feet by the end of the day. I feel the presure of each cleat on the bottom of my feet, even with sport insoles. A few months ago I tried a pair of Bates Ultra light enforcers and love them. They are comfortable all day, light and the tread is aggressive on all surfaces including gravel. They were more expensive than Nike but compared to what my benelli cost its a drop in the bucket. Worth every penny for all day foot comfort.
  9. Here is a pic of my set up. As stated earlier there is no perfect tactical optic. You will have to try different ones in order to decide which is best for you and why. My optic consists of an Accupoint TR21R with Leupold PRW High rings and a Hahn Precision BUIS Scout Rail. I have tried many and this works best for me. I consider four important qualities when selecting an optic, Quality of build, Precision, Magnification and Simplicity (Reticle). I have bought and sold many quality optics and always get all or most of my investment back selling on line. For my 42 year old eyes the thing that seems to be most relevant is a bright glowing aiming point. I can not see a black aiming point quickly. The cost of trying different optics is worth finding the right one for you.
  10. Here is a pic of my 3-gun rifle. rebuilt it several times since 2002 when I built it myself from parts for IPSC type 3-gun matches. I think I got it where I want now.
