  1. Thanks for sharing Jrdoran - I am gonna have to try the grip tape as I have some here (just have to find it). The main reason I went with the comp. was because I have 4 rimfire suppressors and we enjoy shooting in the back yard (I live on 4 acres) but do not want to disturb the neighbors so it allows me to practice with a little extra weight on the pistol so that when I shot it without the suppressor the pistol feels a little lighter.....
  2. Good decision as I am still collecting the needed pieces and parts to allow me to convert my RL1100 from 9mm to 223. Total cost including a set of non-carbide Dillon dies(carbide dies for 223 are no longer listed as available), quick change kit, extra tool head, caliber conversion, and the small rifle plate for the feeder is just North of $800.00.....Needless to say I am buying parts and pieces as I can afford to do so......
  3. Yep - And as stated above attach that bottom bucket to a Frankfort Arsenal Vibrating Tumbler - cost is about $50.00 (remove the tub that is currently on the unit and drill a hole in the center of the bucket bottom) and you will not have to hand shake anything....I just finished sorting over 25 gallons of mixed brass using this method and it worked great - And it was FAST.....I cut the tops off of three buckets to create my spacers between each sorting tray and then cut the bottom out of a 3 gallon bucket for the 380 tray (like others have shown here)....
  4. +1 on the trays...I sorted over 25 gallons of range brass thru these trays and they are a great tool for any reloader that picks up mixed range brass....
  5. JRdoran - Yes Sir - This set us is more accurate than I am.....From a rest at 15yds I can cover 10 shots with a dime....The one thing that I do not think I was ready for was the overall weight. This set up is heavier than my Ruger MK3 22/45 Lite for sure but without a question in my first two sessions (200 rds per session) I did not have a single FTF or FTE. I only shoot CCI 40gr Mini-Mags and they have performed flawlessly.....Thanks for asking about this follow up that I promised back in March...Now to get our monthly matches started back up again so I can show off y new toy....We hope to be back to shooting in May since we shoot the last Saturday of each month....Right now to early to know if we will get to start back in May or June.....Thanks again for asking about this....Mark
  6. AHI - Thanks Sir for taking time to respond....Mark
  7. AHI - So what you are saying is that you use the Dillon Hold Down on both cycles? Second Question - Because I am purchasing the RL1100 complete 223 conversion set up and extra tool heads to change over my RL1100 from 9mm to 223 - do you know if the Dillon HOLD DOWN comes with the RL1100 caliber conversion kit for 223? I hate to call into Dillon and have to wait on hold for 60-90 minutes just to get the answer to this question. Thanks Mark
  8. I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond and provide your personal experience and knowledge. I will have to say that I might have been wrong in my OP to say I will NOT reload without a powder check on my reloading system. At this point I am going to to 2 things - 1> Order the $22.95 DAA seat&crimp die for 9mm and get it here in case I go this route and 2> I am now going to try and figure out the best camera and monitor system available for a budget of around $150.00 for the complete set up (camera system, cables, and monitor). I want a sizable monitor - at least 9" in size but no more than 15". If I am able to use a computer monitor then I have several here at the house in this size range that will save me that cost......so if any of you good folks can recommend a very clear high resolution camera (endoscope camera is also ok if the hookup will work with a computer monitor and it has good lighting) as my plan will be to leave this camera and monitor set up permanently (do not want to use an I-Phone as the screen is just to small for these 60 year old eyes but an I-Pad might be ok). My plan is to try the camera system set up first and if I can see what I need to see (down in a 9mm case) with plenty of light and good resolution I will l go this route. If I cannot get that warm and fuzzy feeling with the camera system set up then I can always fall back on the single seat&crimp die that I will have on hand. I know that going the camera route is slightly more expensive but that is ok in the overall goal for me. Also keep in mind my RL1100 came from Dillon with a complete set of Dillon 9mm dies and nothing would please me more than to be able to use their dies because I currently use this same Dillon die set up on my 650 and I love the end product. Thanks Again and I will now ask for recommendations on a complete affordable high resolution camera system (camera, cables, and monitor - if one of my computer monitors will not work)......Mark
  9. AHI - Great idea Sir - I have read previous threads on the forum about the camera systems. This might be my solution unless someone comes back and identifies a wonderful seat and crimp die that works 100% of the time...Thanks for mentioning. Never thought of a camera option in this situation....Thanks Again. Mark
  10. SeattleDude - Thanks Sir for taking time to respond. My loads are for plinking and Steel Challenge and because I walked into a super deal two years ago on three sealed 8lb jugs of 231 for $82.00 a piece, and because I only load 3.5 Grs per round truth told I worry more about a missed powder drop more so than an over charge.....Thanks Again Sir...Mark
  11. Hind sight is always 20/20....(so says the guy that just got his RL1100)...... Ghost read this thread and watch the video that is loaded in it....GREAT information based on your reloading desires (bullet feeder, powder check, separate seat and crimp dies, etc...)......
  12. Experienced reloaders (I have loaded for over 30 years but never used one die to seat and crimp pistol ammo) please chime in - Here is my "situation" or maybe a better word is "dilemma"..... The Dillon RL1100 is set up (cannot be changed) in such a way that after inserting the primer and dropping the powder charge the machine only has three remaining stations (see video below) and I will be using a powder check die in one station (not giving this up so do not suggest I do - they made the powder check for people like me) and I have a new Mr. Bulletfeeder I am also wanting to install so this leaves me with ONE station. I have never used a seat&crimp die on my pistol rounds so I want to ask the brain trust here the disadvantages in using one die to complete these two operations. If there are those who load your pistol ammo using one die for these two operations PLEASE provide me with your recommendation as to the best "seat & crimp" die please.... I am betting this topic will come up again and again going forward because I know many folks, like me, will buy the RL1100 with the intent of setting it up with a powder check and bullet feeder...... My typical loads on this machine in 9mm will be 124 Gr FMJ's and some 148 Gr FMJ's for my suppressed hosts. Thanks in advance for honest comments and feedback - and if a seat&crimp die is not recommended I guess I will have to give up the bullet-feeder option for this machine and set up and use it when I am loading 223's on this machine at a later time (once I get all of the additional required conversion parts from Dillon).
  13. Levis - Did DAA provide you a replacement die because of your previously described issues? Mark
  14. Marking this thread so I can learn and understand the best set up for 223 on the RL1100....Guess I will need to plan on getting an additional toolhead for this application....OUCH...There goes another $230 (toolhead and shipping).....
  15. What burns my ass is that this $2000 machine is not designed to allow the end user to use a powder checker, bullet feeder, a seating die, and crimp die together....Being older and having Experienced a squib on my 550 years ago I sold the 550 and bought the 650 so I could use a powder check...The security that this device provides for me is priceless.... Now I have to decide what I am willing to do without between these four processes/operations and I bought the RL1100 to have the capability to utilize all of these processes/devices with one pull of the handle as well as the regular processes that occur up to and including the powder drop.....
  16. My friends always told me I was a little S-L-O-W......Guess they were right.....
  17. Sarge - Thanks Sir for this comment as this is how I clean/polish my brass some times and my brass was coming out less than great. Guess this is the reason why....Thanks Again for posting this information....Mark “For me walnut mixed with cob is counter productive because the walnut cleans and burnishes the brass while cob and wax shine it.”
  18. Dirt Chevy - Thanks Sir for taking the time to provide these details. I started loading on a Dillon 550 about 10 years ago and then sold it when I purchased a XL650 about 6 Years ago and will be keeping it for my “other than 9mm runs”... Thanks Again Sir - Mark
  19. Dirt Chevy - Anxious to hear more from you as you get it set up and start loading...Many here have wanted someone with a 1050 to provide a comparison/review of the RL1100 to the Super or RL 1050..... Anxious to hear more from you on this...Also if you do not mind me asking what caliber did you get your RL1100 set up in from Dillon? Thanks Mark
  20. This is not the first time I have read that one of the first things a person does to their new loader is remove the ratchet system...I too am anxious to understand why this is done...
  21. AHI - When it comes to setting your swage unit at set up can you advise if the link below is worth the $13.00 or is this a gimmick? Thanks Mark https://www.ammobrass.com/product-page/ammobrass-swage-setter
  22. Taylor Freelance user here for the past two years with zero malfunctions so far....
  23. Seattle - Thanks for taking the time to provide these details as this information will allow me to measure my bench against yours to determine what mount I need. I am 6’ tall so you providing these details will allow me to get a mount ordered this week....Thanks Again Sir- Mark
  24. Ed - When you have time can you post a picture of this unit please Sir....Also you stated that the unit you are using is not listed yet on their website. Assuming that you ordered it for the RL1050 ? Or the Super 1050? Thanks Mark
