  1. If it ain't raining it ain't good training. As we used to say in the Infantry!
  2. 1.raise the seating stem of the seating die way up. (That is the center piece) 2. Raise the ram all the way up. And bring the seating die down so it touches the shell plate then raise it up maybe one rotation. 3. If you have a factory round use it for a starting point. If not you can make a test round gauge by cutting a slit in a case so the bullet comes out easyer. Use the gauge to get your oal. To do this, put a bullet in your gauge case, put it in station 3 pull handle down the adjust the seating stem to the oal you want. Lmk if Im clear enough and if this helps
  3. Look for the topic " tumble loaded rounds " should help you out.
  4. Is this the first time using the large primer bar? If so, It may need adjustment.
  5. On the 550 it also holds the ram up above the primer bar and gives tension and recoil for the forward push when seating primers.
  6. I'm a 550 guy. Does the SDB have the fail safe system? On the 550 if your fail safe rod is not adjusted correctly or not installed, the primer bar will stop the shell plate from indexing.
  7. Heck toss it my way. I run cbc brass on my 550 with dillon dies. I fire them thru M&Ps, SIGs and Rugers with no problems.
  8. Well this is a first for me. Lucky I cleaned and lubed the 550 before starting my latest reloading venture. The 550 was running the smoothest it ever has and when I felt a snag in the system, I checked all the stations everything look good. My thought was maybe a fired primer landed in the brass bin, look and there it was a bredan primed 9mm case. Head stamp KZ 83. I figured they exsisted but the first I have seen.
  9. Seems like a big variance for a 550 That sounds much better
  10. I have 10k spp on the way
  11. Yes! And I used that same wordige when talking to him about this. I work my loads up for accuracy.
  12. As others stated accuracy has to do with all components being the same. One guy I grew up with was on the Army shooting team. He said they would weigh bullets, primers and cases so the ones that they used were exactlly the same. As far as a press goes my 550 has excellant consistency when using a good powder. AR Comp meters great.
  13. Myself, if I am using new powder and/or projectiles, I prefer to work my load up. I don't shoot competition. As others I find the most acurate round, is never the max load.
  14. I met a reloader, that said he just loads everything to max load with the Serra book? I am not sure if I like that theory. What are your thoughts?
  15. +1 If their primers are anything like their ammo, I would stay away from Wolf or Tula.
  16. SDB = low cost to start 550 = low cost long term 650 = higher cost up front Plus side = speed, bells and whistles
  17. On my 550 it seems like the primer cup gets dirty too. I also noticed a differance in primer height, between standing and sitting.
  18. You know you can run all 4 stations at once? So size seat, powder, deprime and crimp are all contained in the Pull.
