  1. 7 lb 11 oz 18" with my red dot.
  2. Many thanks to both Tom and Pat. I mostly load 2 but I do a few quads and seems like the standard port will still be best. I've been leaning towards the P3k but I wanted to see the final results on the M3K potential before I made the decision. Now just to squirrel away the money where the wife doesn't notice it's gone and place an order.
  3. For somebody who wants to get one of these shotguns and loads primarily weak hand load 2 which porting job would be recommended?
  4. What are yall using for mounts on this budget priced optic? Warne X-skel gen 2. Seems solid and as a bonus Warne supports the sport. Picked up a second one off the RM3G prize table.
  5. I ordered mine in April from Optics planet. Got it 2 weeks ago. So far I'm very pleased with the few rounds I've shot through it. It may not be true 1x but it's so close I can't tell the difference when I'm shooting. I'd be ok if it wasn't illuminated, that's just not important to me but so far it seems to the red is daylight visible. Not bright red that draws the eye but stands out against a black target. It's a $300 scope not a $800+ and for 3 gun I think a great choice. The vertical cross hair could be thinner and make for a better reticle. But I'm a 1x shooter in limited iron so take it for what it's worth.
  6. I am normally a buy once, cry once believer. I have a few JP parts already and have no doubt on the quality. I do not have enough rounds on any ar bolt to have been running one of the cheapest brands in my rifle. Maybe would feel different about the enhance bolt if I had a failure or malfunction with my current bolt but the big advantage I see it having is the JP gas rings. I can add that to any bolt it looks like, may not be as good, but I don't see myself as being able to tell the difference.
  7. I run a Tubb flat wire my ARs that I suppress. Its quieter than a standard spring for sure and takes a bit more force to charge the rifle. I tried to run it in my rifle with a 18" Nordic, standard bcg, and 3 oz buffer and the rifle would short stroke. Swapped it for a standard rifle spring and now I have a TTI. Annoying sproing sound in the tube but the rifle runs. I'm about to get a JP spring ordered and I hope to go back to a quiet rifle again. Love the Tubb flat wire springs when I'm running a suppressor as they do provide more force to hold the bolt closed. You can clip coils on them, in a video on his site Tubb tells you what the spring rate is, but I haven't tried it.
  8. I am going to get a Jp lmos bolt carrier and I am debating between getting the complete unit or just the carrier. Is the JP enhanced bolt worth the price for improved function with their carrier?
  9. From watching this thread, it seems that these pistols have a great deal of variability in accuracy when they come out the factory door. Sounds like some guns might not need any smithing to be acceptable and other guns require it for satisfactory performance. What size groups does the pistol shoot under ideal conditions at 25 yards now? And what is your desired group size for the same? Even if a smith can't guarantee results because of variances in the pistols original manufacture, I would think they could help advise a customer on realistic expectations. The Springfield shop did just that by saying usually the custom work cuts group sizes in half. Say for example its a 3" pistol now best case scenario you can expect a 1.5" pistol back. You take the chance of getting a 2.5" pistol so is that chance worth the price. For the what I think is a bargain price on a new barrel and fitting for the best case scenario and still a vast improvement over a poor performing pistol the less ideal scenario I would have the work done. If you are starting with a 1.5" pistol I think I'd leave well enough alone. Over all the guns you mention that come with a guarantee are built from the ground up and cost much more than the Xdm. I think that would make it much easier to offer a guarantee. I own 2 Weatherby Vanguard rifles, one of which came with an accuracy guarantee and one did not. The one is guaranteed to put 3 rounds in under 1 MOA at 100 yards using premium ammo. Both rifles will do this and the non guaranteed rifle cost less but yields almost identical results. Fire 2 more rounds out of the guaranteed rifle for a 5 round group and the group will open up to more than 1 MOA every time. Still an accurate rifle but kind of proves that "Accuracy Guarantees" are kind of worthless most of the time. The guarantee is a marketing tool, good enough to get people to buy, low enough to not cause additional expense once the gun leaves the shop.
  10. That's the conclusion I came to after reading all those articles. $1000-2000 in ammo is going to benefit me a lot more than an awesome custom rifle.
  11. The .243 makes sense until one of the big ammo manufactures starts selling 6mm Creedmoor ammunition and not just brass. Once that happens I'm sure Ruger announce a brand new model shooting the latest greatest caliber. It looks like a solid entry rifle, I've scrapped my plans to build a 6.5 Creedmoor from a Savage model 10 I bought the day before Ruger announced this because it looks like I can just buy what I was wanting for less now. Gun makers tell us lots of things should be done by a gunsmith and we ignore them all the time.
  12. I cut my Nova's stock down with the chop saw and then cut/sanded down a wooden block to fit inside. Uses some epoxy to hold it in then attached a grind to fit recoil pad. Took a couple of hours spread out over a weekend but seems to be holding up well.
  13. Is there a good source for the barrel band? I've been trying to find one for a while now and not having any luck.
  14. I'm kinda over the idea. Would be fun to mess with but just gonna make the G17 be best it can with sights, trigger, and some basepads. If I want more after that it'll be a new gun entirely.
  15. #2 was me and that's an accurate description. I'm trying to help on #1. I'm not wanting to change it. I like the rules we have now.
  16. I would not have been able to use my rifle(18") or shotgun(24") at my very first match. And would be downloaded my pistol mags by 2 rounds. I distinctly remember needing every round in my 3 pistol mags to complete one stage with them loaded to 17 too. As far a being competitive, it costs a decent chunk of change. But setups are talked about on here all the time that don't cost outrageous amounts that guys have used to be competitive and win. The Stoeger M3000 springs to mind. But it matters even more for certain skill to be learned on how to play the game too.
  17. That's fine and dandy at a LOCAL match. But if you bring those things to a MAJOR Match don't be entitled to be competitive. Besides what happens when you make a new Division at a Major match? Salient Arms G19, Taran Tactical 870 and a JP rifle with a Prismatic, Gamer is going to game in the GAME. If the other shooters in your division are all abiding by the same division restrictions what does Local or Major matter? Everyone in the division is being measured under the same equipment restrictions while shooting the same targets as everyone else. The whole point would be no custom shop guns so when someone brings a Salient, TTI, or JP out to play - then they can but they're no longer in the off the shelf division. I'd even go so far as to say no 1x optics like a Prismatic. Only iron sights or actual red dots. How do you verify an off the shelf status of a gun? Are homebuilt ars out of luck because a factory didn't put it together? A lot of non competition oriented rifles cost more than a JP. An Aimpoint t-2 costs a lot more than a Burris AR-1x but the Burris or the Pris are out because they 1x sights but not a red dot? I'd love for limited to be pump shotguns only, it would save me about a grand, but I still wouldn't be winning anything. My contribution to the OPs question, after reading several major match limited equipment rulesets I just wish they all specified limited be limited to "double stack rifle magazines only."
  18. ^This. I started with a $400 shotgun and pistol and a $800 rifle. I had a hell of a good time and I'm upgrading. Sky's the limit on what you can spend but any change to even out existing divisions would be an arms race. An off the shelf division is neat in theory, but I don't see it getting past that.
  19. Taccom sells a 10% reduced power spring. I also know that the Tubb flat wire spring can be cut down fairly easily. On the Tubb website there is a video in which he talks about it and even says what cutting off each coil reduces the rate by in lbs. I believe that the TTI Lightspeed spring is reduced power.
  20. I figure I might be over thinking it but I don't want to get all excited and get one then have a fancy paperweight. I'm just thinking of it for sight radius and being several small purchases that I can shoot in between upgrades instead of saving for one big one. Besides sights not staying lined up and cycling issues from added barrel weight what else might I run into that I'm not thinking of? Option b is shoot the gun as is, upgrade the trigger, then buy a 34 slide or complete gun when I find a deal and swap the slides. A better option I'm sure but means I have to fight the urge to be my own special snowflake.
  21. I'm needing to set up a second pistol for 3 gun and I have a G17 that currently has no purpose. I'm thinking of starting to slowly build it up for 3 gun and one thing that I like about my current pistol is it has a longer sight radius. Would a Taylor Freelance barrel shroud not be legal under any of the larger 3 gun match rule sets? I shoot limited and don't plan on any other division anytime soon. As far as why, to set it up with sights, trigger, barrel, and shroud I'd have about $140 more in the pistol than the price of a stock G34. Also I think it looks cool and why not unless I can't shoot it and remain in limited division. For now it can be narrowed down to this rule from RM3G, (bold added by me)- 6. Limited Classes a. Firearms must be of factory configuration. b. Pistols with custom or factory installed electronic sights, optical sights, extended sights, compensators or barrel porting are NOT allowed in this class. Pistol magazines shall not exceed 170mm overall length for single stacks, and shall not exceed 140mm OAL for staggered magazines. Does it violate factory configuration or count as an extended sight?
  22. Thanks for the info, so far I don't have a holster. The gun was a deal I couldn't pass up and now I'm just trying to find a use for it. Gonna shoot it in a few matches and if I like it gonna modify it.
  23. I've got a G17 that collects dust in the safe that I'm thinking of turning into a 3gun pistol. Anyone who has used this on a 17/22 what holster will it fit in? One for a G34 or do you need one that fits a G17L? Specific to 9mm, as anyone had to adjust loads to make pistol function with the increased barrel weight?
  24. But what will we have to blame when we don't win with that attitude. I want one of these sights for my rifle but its probably going to be around the time the new design is maybe coming out before I can get one. Hopefully I will have lots of choice when its time to lay my money down.
  25. This is from Carbon Arms website listing for the Nordic 18"- This 416R Stainless Steel barrel is 18" long with a rifle length gas system. The gas port was specified at a smaller diameter thereby creating a softer shooting rifle without the need for an adjustable gas block. Not on Nordic's website listing, but I trust Carbon Arms enough to believe that the Nordic barrels they sell have the reduced port size.
