  1. Tyler, At BRM3G I was able to hit all of the handgun steel that was in the bright sun just fine. I sure had more trouble when it was cloudy, rainy, or in the woods. Something about old age and vision from what I understand. I am seriously thinking about Open as well just so that I can have something that I can see on my shotgun and pistol. Those blurry little bumps at the end of the barrel didn't do me a whole lot of good, and point shooting at 50 - 60 yrd 1/2 size IPSC steel wasn't the most efficient way of running Stage #5 and Stage #6 I will monitor your thread to see what options come up.
  2. Leaving MN tomorrow for the match. I was sliding across a guys deck due to ice yesterday morning. I hope it is a little warmer in Kentucky.
  3. Mark97se The rules have always been 8 in the tube plus one in the chamber if you start loaded chamber. If you start empty chamber you can have 8 in the gun and the "lifter" would be considered part of the mag tube. Please don't hold me to this, maybe an email to Andy would be in order if you want the perfect answer, I am just going on what has been allowed in the past. This may be partly to do with the fact some shotguns can't be loaded with one sitting on the lifter.
  4. Your shotgun can't even be able to "hold" more than eight rounds in the tube. I just use a plug on my 10 rd. tube.
  5. The little metal stubs are awesome for helping to keep the belt closed but they are a bit of a pain until you get used to them. It does get easier. Holster is attached with techlock because I didn't trust those little forks to hold all of that weight. This can be removed and the space filled with a couple of Qualoads on techlock holders for long shotgun stages. I also have numerous 4 round shot shell holders (I load weak hand from these) and two Qualoads on ELS. Some of these can be easily removed and replaced with pistol pouches with ELS backers and a rifle mag pouch with ELS if needed. I also have a rifle mag pouch at the small of the back. My usual set up for normal stages has one rifle mag at the small of the back, two pistol pouches at the weak side hip, two four round carriers at the left front, two Qualoads (16 rds.) at the front and right front (I strong hand load these), holster at the strong side hip. Belt keepers are at the 2:00, 4:00, 8:00, and 10:00 positions. I hope that helps a little.
  6. GSchroeder If you are coming to the SCAPSA 3-gun near Clearwater on Saturday, look me up and I will show you my ELS setup. The ELS works the best for me but it is spendy to get everything changed over. I ran the CR Speed belts for several years and had Techlock attachments on all of my mag pouches and shell holders and that worked well, but I made sure to use "keepers" to keep the belts together. I have seen too many belts go flying during a vigorous course of fire. I don't think the normal velcro belts were designed to take the added weight of all of the shells and gear we carry on a typical course of fire. I still run the keepers on the ELS belt just for piece of mind. "Keepers" are small double snap pieces of leather or nylon made to fit tightly around both the inner and outer belts, not letting them fall apart. Commonly found at any Law Enforcement supply place.
  7. Vinci It fits me like no other, reliable, no Benelli thumb, shoots slugs like a lazer using only the fiber optic with mid bead.
  8. One of the more enjoyable stages I can remember was at the '07 USPSA Multi-gun Nationals in Tulsa. Long range rifle on paper at around 325 yrds. It was kind of cool shooting at a target that gives no feedback until it is scored. It was a good test of your confidence (or lack there of). Reset was by ATV and the RO's really had to work their butts off to keep the turnaround short but it was a cool part of the stage.
  9. One and done in my opinion. Otherwise the credibility of the Club Series, 3GunNation, and the Match would come into question. Just because we aren't winning anything at the local matches should not even be an issue. If I knew that I would just have to spend another $3.00 for a second, third, or fourth chance at the classifier, it would open the door for pushing the envelope more than if you were only given one chance at it. One chance is a better indicator of your skill level. If you blow a stage it is because you pushed the envelope and crashed and burned.
  10. I see you are ordering the "large" compensator. Excellent compensator but I think it is too large for Tactical Optics Division. You might want to look at the normal 1" comp. Anything larger than 1" puts you in open. Just a thought. Wise choice on JP in my humble opinion.
  11. The courage is always there for the Bar Fights, Domestics, Shots fired, Foot pursuits, Armed Robberies, Vehicle pursuits, Resisting arrest, and all that other fun stuff in Law Enforcement. We are trained for that. No amount of training prepares you for this scenario and it has always been the scariest things for me. It seems to bring Humanity down to its most basic level and it is so foreign to us because we are dealing with good people facing probably the worst thing that will ever happen to them and we can do nothing to help. I am thankful that in 34 years on the job I have never become hardened enough not to care.
  12. I am a big fan of natural terrain matches that require just a little more from shooters. Whether it be its physical nature, accuracy challenges, altitude adjustment, or lots of ammo management challenges. Blue Ridge - great people and a fun place to stay. Physical match with accuracy based scoring. Task Force Dagger - VERY physical match with the same type of scoring as Blue Ridge. Ironman - I became injured the year I was signed up to go and have not been able to fit into my schedule yet. Bucket list match for sure. RM3G - Best 3-gun match in the country for me. My wife and I take the motorhome and make it a vacation at the campground in the NRA Whittington Center. Some aspects of the match I may not agree with but it is THE match to attend, and I am doing my best to make sure I make it in 2014. Final choice would be any match where it is warm during the long Minnesota winter. Texas matches and Superstition 3-gun come to mind. I have made every Midwest 3-gun from the start and that is a match that is always part of the calendar. I can't make the Fort Benning 3-gun starting again this year but that match will be one to make. It isn't a 3-gun but I do love shotgun matches so naturally Nordic Components Shotgun Challenge would be on the list as well.
  13. Kurt, I wish I could make it to this match, it would be worth it just to get advice from you and Trapr. "to give back to the people who are really what this sport is about" Awesome!!
  14. Bunch of hunyackers I say. It was just a bored guys thought while drinking a cup of coffee. I didn't say it was a good thought. Back to the thread.
  15. Task Force Dagger as well. I personally like having the different match rules. I use a 10 rd tube and always carry a plug that limits it to 8 rds. Set for everything. Not to drift the thread but I personally think an all shotgun match (since it is all about the shotgun) should have tubes plugged at the 8 rd limit. What say you?
  16. Speed Cross 3's here as well. I don't need them for my blazing burst of speed, but it sure makes quick stops and cuts while running a COF able to be done with more confidence. They have supplied good traction in every situation I have found thus far and they really shine in matches held on natural terrain.
  17. A couple of years ago my wife and I were loading up the motorhome for the Rocky Mountain 3-gun Match at the NRA Whittington Center. We lost our Cocker Spanial "Gizmo" and couldn't locate him. I finally found him hiding in one of the open storage bays in the underside of the motorhome. He was hiding behind some items already set inside the bay. He was going to make sure he wasn't left behind. They hate to be left behind.
  18. I hogged out the loading port and the front of the trigger guard area on my Vinci a lot, maybe a little too much, but I have never accidentally hit the shell release even while doing quadloads. The shell release on a Vinci is right at the front of the trigger guard, not like it is on the M1, M2, or SBE shotguns.
  19. You can improve a lot by doing dry fire drills. My son Nathan and I work on these drills with rifle, pistol, and shotgun a lot. Finding the time and money for live fire practice is difficult so we use local matches for that. Notice I did say that you can improve a lot. To be really good, like 3GunNation Pro Tour (like P. E. Kelley) good, sorry, you need to get out there and do some shooting.
  20. Stone, it was great seeing you and your parents at the match. Your enthusiasm is always fun to watch. Good shooting.
  21. Well the Nordic Components Tactical Shotgun Championships is in the books. I was very pleased with the feed back I received from many shooters at the match. It really made the match worth while. Thanks to the Del-Tone-Luth Gun Range and their workers for being such a great host range, Jomar and Jay for basically doing everything, the RO's for the awesome job they did, Kevin for the prize table, the sponsors for filling that prize table with great products, and most of all thanks to the shooters for showing up for our match. Without the shooters there would be no match. I know the match was not 100% perfect, and it would be basically impossible to make it so. But if any shooters happen to see this and has any constructive feedback, please send Jay, Jomar, or myself a PM with any critique that might make this match even better.
  22. At The Range Now With Three Stages Set An Props Set For The Other Eleven Stages.. Now Its Miller Time While The Meat Cooks On The Grill. Range Looks Great And Very Few Bugs. My Phone Likes To Cap Every Word, Sorry.
  23. Just a block or so from Cabelas in Rogers MN there is a new Gander Mountain store that has a lot of ammunition as well. I was at the range yesterday setting some props and everything looks awesome. Can't wait.
  24. I have to agree with Larry. The Bownell's bag is one of the best 3-gun investments I have made.
