Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. We have a 3-gun match every 3rd Saturday at Desert Sportsmans Rifle and Pistol Club, 12201 W Charleston Blvd in Las Vegas 89135 that is designed more for the beginning/entry-level shooter. Show up at 8am, build stages, check in at 8:30, shoot at 9, finish usually before noon. 3 fairly simple stages with relatively low round counts with a few challenges thrown in to the stage design. Check out Sin City Shooters - Multi Gun on Facebook or pm me.
  2. Yeah, what Mark said. Share guns. Put a few people between you in the rotation on your squad so you have time to get your gear organized.
  3. Rules state no shot over 1400 fps. Prairie Storm is 1500 as I recall.
  4. Prairie Storm. 1 shot and the spinner wil probably stop spinning by the time you finish the stage. Shoot the bottom plate and it won't knock the spinner down.
  5. I like to practice reloads while I'm driving.
  6. I had the little tab on the disconnect break on my Jard. They were very cool about it and sent me a whole new trigger assembly, since mine was an out-dated model.
  7. +1 for using live rounds if you're at the range. -1 if you're practicing with live rounds in your living room. Murphy's a dick.
  8. There's 3 categories of speed with shotgun reloading (fastest to slowest): 1) standing still in the garage filming a Youtube video, 2) walking in the back yard with no psychological pressure, and 3) at a match Don't make speed be your focus when practicing. Smooooooth should be your focus. Fast will come by itself once you start getting smooth. Also, realize that fast in the calm, quiet garage rarely transfers to fast during a stage. Load while walking around the back yard. Have sombody pelt you with tiny rocks while you're walking to create distraction and stress. Have your wife tell you about her day while you're loading. Skills needed under stress have to be learned under stress.
  9. First of all, welcome to the shooting community! I'd recommend starting off with USPSA pistol matches for an intro. Not as complicated as IDPA and not as gear intensive as 3 gun. Try before you buy, too. Borrow and/or try other people's gear. Ask questions. Observe what others are using. Your own gear selection is limited only by personal preference, budget, seeing what works for most shooters, budget, your own goals, and budget. If I was just starting off in 3-gun, I'd get a Glock 34 with some decent sights (front sight with a thin blade and a fiber optic), a Stoeger M3K with a mag tube extension (10+1 total capacity), and an off-the-shelf-ready-to-go-for-3-gun AR. Safariland ELS/QLS belt system with their mag pouches and a pant load of ammo (no steel core rifle ammo, please). Most important and effective investment is training from any of the 3-gun gurus. That alone would put you ahead of the starting block.
  10. Take a look at the inside wall of the receiver. Sometimes you can get a burr where the shell rim rubs against it.
  11. Absolutely right. I should have put that in my post. Wear a particle mask and continuously spray the area being drilled with water.
