  1. I just shot the PRS match at CORE Shooting Solutions. It was a gas gun only match and had a "Tactical" division for .308 and .223. This was an awesome match and based on the response I wouldn't be surprised if more gas guns weren't seen in the near future. Jump in the game with what you have. Great people and great matches to be enjoyed now while you decide the gun of your future.
  2. The Ro's whooped up on setting stages today. My hat is off to anyone who volunteers to help with a match like this. I hope everyone has a safe match and safe travels to get here. We are looking forward to showing everyone a good time.
  3. The Gander Mountains, Cabelas, and Fleet Farms would all welcome your business but I have to say Arnzen Arms are good people that will do their best to provide anything you might need. And it saved you the running around when you need to be planning your stages. Trust me, you are going to want to spend a little time walking the stages. When I ask Jomar what the stages will be like, he just grins. Kind of scarry.
  4. Being over 55 makes my eyes focus different than both of my sons. Their scope reticle is a blur to me and mine is to them as well.
  5. Definately go with the new handguard you will love the feel. I am also a huge fan of the heat sink. Well worth the little added weight and expense. I am also running the new roller trigger and have no regrets.
  6. You didn't mention if your handgun was loaded, unloaded, or magazine inserted but empty chamber. Most matches I have been too require the handgun to not have a round chambered if the stage requires using a long gun prior to shooting the pistol.
  7. I didn't think much of it at first but after playing with one for a while I am putting one in my next build from JP.
  8. I live out in the country and have no Internet access. If I have a Google Chrome computer that has no software on it. If I have a large external hard drive can I download sketchup onto the hard drive and still design stages while not having Internet access?
  9. I was there last year in my RV for four days. Not a problem. Dump site just a few miles down the road if needed. You can hike to the stages but a cat would be nice.
  10. I have tried both and I run the Nordic tube. Both are great units but the Nordic won out due to the ease in changing tube length.
  11. I love my Luth stock. I run the high LaRue scope mount and the adjustable cheek piece works very well. Adjustable butt stock is nice for different size shooters plus the light weight keeps my rifle balanced. I have run it all year with no problems at all. I expected it to be a good stock but it exceeds my expectations in every way. I can not compare to the Tacmod stock but I like it better than my UBR and PRS.
  12. The "Standards" stage at BRM3G at Rock Castle. I don't remember the year but the stage involved all the weapons and the shooters ran the stage as a squad all at once moving forward to each shooting challenge in a skirmish line. No gaming would help on that stage, fundamental shooting skills tested and that was it. Great stage.
  13. Poortrader What I mean is that there are several stages with optional targets both pistol/rifle and pistol/shotgun. To holster your handgun and have it with you later in the stage might be an option worth considering.
  14. Jay earlier in the thread it talked about hot reholstering of the handgun being allowed this year. Their appears to be a couple of stages ether this might have benefit.
  15. With the talk of optional targets on another thread, it was kind of cool to see a video like this. Of course shooter skill was obviously the most important factor but that course of fire was interesting. The lower left shooter looked like he could have placed 2nd if had just loaded more shotgun shells instead of abandoning the shotgun and drawing the handgun.
  16. Build your shoulder muscle during dry fire. Bring the rifle up and hold steady on a target for a second or so. Drop the rifle and repeat. Four sets from each shoulder (we can't forget shooting from the other side right?) 25 reps per set. Feel the burn.
  17. Jesse, I can't make it to your match but wanted to throw out a quick Kudos to you, Chad, and any others that have kept this match going. Good job as this venue is one of the nicest places in the country for a shoot.
  18. MarkCO All good comments that make a valid argument. I am guilty of looking at it from the perspective of an older or more seasoned shooter. I have also had the advantage of helping to get a large number of 3-gun shooters started under the umbrella of the MN3GunGroup. We started this group with the intent of making the new 3-gun shooter feel welcomed and to assist them in getting started in 3-gun by having beginner classes, borrowing equipment, and keeping the basic safety rules in concert with most of the major 3-gun matches that the shooter may attend later in their shooting career. Our number one goal was not to crush our competition. To start your 3-gun career at a major match is an invorgorating experience. To do so without the benefit of being mentored through a more basic match by more experienced shooters would make the first match a challenge I am sure. I have to admit though that I see very few newer shooters posting on these forums complaining about how the match was run.
  19. Consistency is the one thing that I don't want in the matches I attend. I enjoy the variety that is afforded by multiple MD's having different rule sets. I read the rules prior to attending the match and adjust equipment and my mental game accordingly. I enjoy going to the Horner matches that only allow 8 rounds in the shotgun tube and have the unique scoring system. I also enjoy the RM3G matches that only allow the base of one mag to be touching the ground as a monopod. I don't have to agree to the rules, I just have to abide by them. I don't want every match to be exactly the same. The more shooting, physical, and mental challenges the better. I also don't need someone to give me a re-shoot because I ran under a low hanging branch and knocked my ear pro kittywhampus, I can figure that out for myself, if I knocked it off then get it back on and get to work. There should be some things that you can figure out for yourself without having to have a specific rule to assist you in your decision. Basically any major 3-gun match will have you crawling over, through, or under some form of barrier. Your eyes/ears may become knocked around. You are not allowed to shoot without them, take the time to put them back in place. The comments about "Big Boy Rules" have nothing to do with the size of anyones maleness, it has more to do with the mentality. You are a 3-gunner for crying out loud. You shouldn't need a rule for every specific incident you may run into. Just as a side note, I didn't mean that 3-gunners are another worldly sort of person that is living at a higher plane than other shooters from other sports. What I mean is that 3-gunners run around with three different kinds of loaded weapons. Sometimes with all three weapons at the same time. If we can figure out how to do this safely, the rest of the problems we face should be cake.
