  1. In my 24" JM Pro I've shot seven different kinds of slugs: Remington Slugger 7/8 oz. Remington Slugger 1 oz. Remington Managed Recoil Slugger 1 oz. Federal Maximum Rifled Slug 1 oz. Federal Vital Shok Truball 1 oz. Federal Vital Shok Deep Penetrator Truball 1 oz. Federal Vital Shok Low Recoil Truball 1 oz. It happily ate all of them and I've had no failures in 125 rounds of the above. The Federal Vital Shok Low Recoil Truball were the most accurate with the Deep Penetrator a close second.
  2. Although there are a few true bargains, when you do the math it is definitely not a good deal on average.
  3. I too have a JM Pro. At $600 it is a steal and has been 100% reliable with nearly two dozen different brands, loads and types of ammo. Around here 3 gun matches occur four times a year on the 5th weekend of a month. It will be a long time before I reach 8K of rounds through the gun even assuming that number is valid since it lacks any evidence. I just can't justify a more expensive SG at this point. YMMV.
  4. The one bad thing about the gun is the terribly dirty condition in which Mossberg ships them. Giving it a very thorough cleaning and lube job before you take it to the range will likely give you much better performance. I've now shot about two dozen brands and loads of birdshot, buckshot and slugs through mine. I have yet to have a single problem other than once when I loaded a shell improperly. Keep it clean and lubed and you should experience no further problems.
  5. I use Clays for my 9mm and 45 ACP. I use 4756 as a backup which is what I use for 38 Super. These two powders cover all my personal needs.
  6. Glad to have another Floridian aboard. Welcome!
  7. I bought mine from Bud's. I hit the buy button as soon as I received the notification. They had two and five minutes after I bought mine the other one was gone. It is well worth the wait. If you add the 1.5 inch tube cap you can get 10 in the tube, ghost load one and have one in the chamber for 12 starting rounds.
  8. Are you referring to the backpack or Mario's backside? Funny guy. Need to see me now. Already lost over 50 lbs!! Mario, that's great to hear. I probably will have trouble seeing you now if you turn sideways. Unfortunately, I've gained 10 of the pounds that you lost.
  9. Ammo cost is likely to be quite a bit more than .223/5.56. Over the life of the gun this can amount to a lot of $$$.
  10. [quote name=kmca ' timestamp='13532 51443' post='1816664] That thing is huge and if you load it up, I wouldn't want to carry it either Are you referring to the backpack or Mario's backside?
  11. Unfortunately I will be in Canada that weekend. I am bummed that I'm going to miss what is shaping up to be a great match. For any North Florida shooters who haven't been to a recent match at the Gainesville Target Range you really owe it to yourself to give it a shot. The matches get better every month.
  12. I use hollow points for two reasons: 1. I seem to experience less splatter when hitting steel plates and poppers. 2. I compared 125 grain Zero FMJ's and JHP's out of the same pistol. The JHP's produced a tad smaller group but the difference was probably not statistically significant. 3. The cardboard IPSC targets that I shoot are not wearing body armor so I don't need a solid nosed bullet for penetration.
  13. I'm extremely happy with my Mossberg 930 JM Pro. At around $600 including three chokes it's a steal if you can find one. It has performed flawlessly with light and regular bird shot, buckshot and slug loads. My only gripe is the lack of a rear sight but that's easily fixed.
  14. Definitely the pump. The time you save reloading will more than offset the small amount of extra time required between shots.
  15. I zero both my Open and iron sight guns at 17 yards. I use this distance for two resons: 1. I zero by shooting off hand. Much past this and the error in my groups makes it more difficult to identify the zero point. 2. With a zero at this distance I'm good to go out to 50 yards with no adjustment. The exception is anything within five yards using the Open gun. Then I aim for the top of the B zone for an upper A hit. With the iron sights I don't bother with any adjustment. You mentioned that you set the zero off of a rest. You may find that the gun reacts differently when held off hand and that your zero will be affected. YMMV.
  16. Nordic makes extra long mag tube caps, one is 3/4" and the other 1.5" longer than standard cap. Check their site. I ordered the XXL one, even though some have posted that the XL allowed an extra round in the tube. You need to make sure the treads are compatible, unless you already have a Nordic extended mag tube. Mark I did the same with my JM Pro 10. Now I can easily get ten rounds in the tube, one in the chamber and even ghost load a 12th round. It works like a charm.
  17. It needs more color, Seriously, that is a great looking and unique blaster.
  18. I had a similar problem with mine a few years ago. Call Dillon and ask them if they press needes to be "timed." They'll send you a small tool gratis and instructions. It should do the trick in just a few minutes.
  19. To be specific on my LnL experience the longest continued run without a jam of some type was 67 rounds. I thought for a while it was just me but given the success I've had with my Dillon XL650 that wasn't the case. I used the same casings, primers, and powder with both and yet I could never get the LnL to perform as it should. Maybe it was just a problem specific to that individual machine, I don't really know. I do know, however, that the aggravation I felt was not worth the few $ savings.
  20. I started with a LnL thinking I could save money on a progressive loader that was somewhere between a Dillon 550 and 650. After two months of frustration I sold it and bought a Dillon 650XL through Brian. I now have over 80K rounds through my Dillon. YMMV but for me it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
  21. You win the award for the briefest introduction ever. We're glad to have you and tell us a little about yourself.
  22. Welcome to the Sunshine State contingent.
  23. Good luck with the new role. Not much night life there but you should make a pile of $$$.
