  1. That sounds like the most likely motivation but sadly I don't think it will work out as expected by those who are initiating the change. IT's most likely that a majority of the "gazelles" who are winning matches are capable of a good deal more accuracy than they may currently be displaying. They are playing a game and trying to win so they have judged where they can go faster and drop a few points to end up with a better overall time. They are gamers perhaps but that also means that they are capable of adapting to new rulesets and adjusting to the harsher accuracy-oriented penalties. I suspect that the people who are at the bottom of the scores will remain there and IDPA will have to look for yet another way to hold back competitive shooters.
  2. I often see thoughts along these lines this stated. (And with the "WO" comments and all...) As if CO is only a "newbies" division or something, or that it is somehow super cheap to enter, or doesn't attract those of us who already shoot Open. All of which is completely wrong. Agreed. Just like Production is not a gateway to Limited. I have been there and done that with Open. It's just not for me.
  3. I have a little bit of information to draw from. What is the RTS2 hole pattern? Maybe I can compare.
  4. Let me follow up. This was discussed and I am surprised they haven't been added yet.
  5. whats the springer? It's a very nice aluminum drop offset. Comes in multiple colors and they can do custom laser etching on the hanger. http://shop.springerprecision.com/product.sc?productId=321&categoryId=33
  6. It's not technically a DQ but the affect on scores is the same. You are allowed to shoot the other stages for no score and you receive a DNF for the match.

    BUG guns

Here is another style using Compact magazines and Springer Precision 0.25" base pads. This is a cut down full size shown here with Compact slide until my subcompact slide comes in.

Pictured above are his subcompact pads. Obsidian Arms has two other styles of extended pads that work on the Compact or Full size magazines. I had him remove 0.10" from four of these to ensure they fit in the BUG box on a Compact magazine.
  10. Details on the Romeo 1 are finally out. The Spec sheet says it's 0.8oz for the Romeo 1 and 1.4oz for the Romeo 3. Prices that I have seen already online place the Romeo 1 between $300 and $400 depending on whether you get the adapter kit with it. http://www.sigoptics.com/model/romeo1-1x22-mm/ http://www.sigoptics.com/model/romeo3-1x25-mm/

    BUG guns

Those look great, but I'm not sure they'd be legal. An aftermarket magazine base pad is not supposed to weigh more than 1oz over the stock weight. Since weight is one of the advantages to these pads, I'm thinking they may be heavier than that.I like your other idea of using a trimmed compact or even a full-size frame with a SC slide. I think it's 1 oz for SSP but 1.5 oz for ESP/CCP/BUG. Please correct me if I am wrong. I had some weight discussions with the guy who makes these so I would be surprised if it adds more than 1.5oz. Regarding the trimming, we are still trying to figure out if that's legal. When I brought it up on the IDPA Facebook page it was questioned since the ESP rules don't discuss whether or not it's legal to chop a rail from a grip module. I have pictures of one that I have worked up that I can post in the next week or so. My backup plan is building an SC grip down to give it a magwell and extend it for Compact magazines. The Full size is just ever so slightly tall to fit in the box (actually squeezes into an official IDPA BUG box but I measure it at 5.55") so I have been building for Compact Magazines. I have two different base pad setups that come down to the bottom of the box and look really nice.
  12. CZ is pretty small even with the thicker grips. I am currently shooting a SIG P320 with a large grip module. The Tanfos are thicker than the CZs if you want to go for a DA/SA.

Here is a very nice way to go BUG with a Subcompact SIG P320. Obsidian Arms has some plus zeros that extend the SC grip nicely but should still be legal for BUG. http://www.obsidianarms.com/product-p/sigp320sub-004.htm
  14. I think full just for the added velocity from the longer barrel.
  15. My assumption is that the 35oz rule was supposed to function like the proposed Production Max weight proposal where you would be free to add weight up to that limit, but without the supporting rules language it looks like we are dead in the water. Hopefully this is something that can be addressed along the way.
  16. The release of the Legion series next week is great news since it should make a bunch of quality GGI trigger parts Production legal. http://www.osagecountyguns.com/blog/news/sig-sauer/sig-sauer-p226-p229-legion-series/

  18. I just don't get the source for "no I internal slugs over .5oz"
  19. I am very confused. Maybe this is feedback we need to get to the Area Directors to ensures that they clean up the language to ensure we can add weight. It seemed like the intent was to allow everything to meet at 35oz but I don't know how together there within the rules as specified.
  20. I was wondering what could have possessed them to make this change and why they thought it was necessary. One possible explanation: Vickers.
  21. Would it be legal to add internal wight to a CO gun? Since the weight limit is 35 OZ I assumed that we would be free to make internal modifications to get the weight up but the new Production ruling on grip plugs made me question that. Specifically DNROI mentions a prohibition on adding "adding significant weight" and mentions plugs weighing more than 0.5oz being prohibited. I do not understand where the "adding significant weight" or the 0.5oz came from but he references them as if they are somewhere else in the rulebook. If legal my intent would be to add lead or brass internal to my CO gun to get it closer to the 35 oz limit. http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-NROI-ruling-details.php?indx=34 "The plastic plug that fits flush (extends no more than 0.10") with the heel of the grip is allowed. Plugs that extend below the heel like the Scherer polymer slug plug or other similar models are not allowed. Metal, brass or the Seattle Slug plugs are not allowed either. External plugs which alter the grip profile or extend past the bottom of the grip are PROHIBITED. Plugs which add significant weight to the gun are PROHIBITED. Special Notes/Clarifications:Per existing NROI ruling, a plastic plug which fits flush (+/- 0.1”) with heel of the grip IS allowed. For purposes of this interpretation, a plug weighing more than 0.5 ounce is considered “adding significant weight”. Applies to any Production Division firearm."
  22. I just use warm water and dish soap with an old toothbrush then use an air compressor to dry. Edit: Might as well post up my SiC grips. 2 part Marine Epoxy and 80 grit SiC. Those look very nice. I am about to try some 80 on another project. I have been using 36.
