  1. I think it should be left as it is, I think as a whole our ROs are people of integrity, and make every effort to be fair and correct in the calls they make. Do mistakes happen? Yes both for and against the shooter. I think we are forgetting that this is a game we play for fun.
  2. How come you are loading so long, most people load 1.18 to 1.20 for 2011 type guns. I like WST with my coated bullets but I load to 1.185" I am not sure how much it will take at 1.2+ but for me 4.7gr. Works nicely for me. I am sure jacketed bullets would require a couple of tenths more as well.
  3. I think the Sig Max in 40 is a myth kinda like the para pro custom 16.40. I was interested in both and got tired of waiting and bought something else. As far as putting a 40 barrel in a 45 gun it may be possible but I would think that you would have a lot of slop at the breech and the case could easily slip out from under the extractor.
  4. I have looked a the tactical but I am looking for other options.
  5. I have an eagle ordered and am looking for a magwell that is IDPA legal. Who makes one that will fit in the box other than the STI tactical?
  6. The problem I have with the auto forwarding is the top round sometimes nosedives into the bottom of the feed ramp and then I have to rack the slide to get the round to chamber.
  7. I had the same issue with my EGW, I found that I could drop a sized case in and it would fit but loaded rounds did not. Then I tried dropping loaded rounds rim first and the brass would fit completly in the gauge. When I tried next time i pressed the rounds into and out of the gauge I noticed that the coating was shaved on the bullet. I started measuring some of my bullets and saw they measured 0.4025" and they are supposed to be 0.401". The bullet was the issue I tried some xtreme bullets with the same profile loaded to the same COAL and they dropped in freely. BTW I did have some feeding issues with the oversized bullets, and I know that anything that fits my EGW will fit easily in my guns chamber.
  8. I have a 40 Edge that I bought in March, the only FTFs I have had were with some Remanufactured ammo which was loaded 1.115". I shot several hundred rounds of this stuff and only had a few failures and this was while I was still breaking in the gun. As far as magazines go this is important for any 1911/2011. I have tuned my mags for reliability and capacity but factory STI mags will run. If you can load your own ammo I do find the gun seems to cycle better with longer loaded rounds.
  9. I have looked at the Sig Max, my current 1911 is a Sig Tac ops and it has run perfectly since I bought it probably 4k down the pipe. My next 1911 is going to be a 70 series. I still have the series 80 stuff in mine and my trigger is 2.5lbs but I just don't like having parts I don't need in the gun.
  10. I load for 40 and 45 but my other 1911 is a 45 so that's most likely what I will stay with. If I add the things to the springfield that I know I want like fo front sight, magwell, the cost difference between them is not that much. I know the Trojan has a ramped barrel but I dont know how much difference that makes.
  11. I am thinking about shooting single stack next year, and I want to buy another 1911. I am considering the Springfield loaded target and the STI Trojan. Anyone have comments or experience with these, I have read a lot of good things about both, just looking for pros and con's.
  12. My WST 9mm load is 4.6gr., Xtreme 124gr. FP seated at 1.08" this load made 137 PF at VA/MD section match. I find it to be pretty soft, could probably try 4.4 and still be fine but when I was working up this load 4.6 was more accurate. This was shot from my M&P pro with 5 inch barrel.
  13. Well I have only been shooting USPSA for about 9 months so many others have more experience than I do, but for major I think it will be easier with a 2011 or some other gun with some weight. I am a fan of the M&P pistols its what I shot IDPA and steel with and did pretty well. A friend of mine advised me against the M&P for limited and I went that direction anyway for a minute. After shooting a 2011 vs the M&P it did not take long to figure out I made a mistake. I still love my Pro in 9mm but for 40 the STI Edge I ended up buying is much more comfortable to shoot and I shoot it faster. Also with the 2011 guns I have shot they are in my hands just more accurate. I completely understand the dilemma of performance vs cost and 2011 guns and mags are not cheap but if you are wanting one it is worth the money not only to satisfy that desire but you will also be buying a top notch gun to learn and progress with.
  14. I noticed when shooting around cover you tend to cant the gun also when shooting weak hand only. I have found that for me its worth the extra effort to try to make sure the gun is straight seems to help me not drop so many points.
  15. My first question would be what kind of gun are you loading for? Next would be what bullets? I do not use a case gauge for 9mm I have just removed the barrel from my M&P and used it to spot check my loads. I have used mainly range pick up brass mostly fired from glocks and have had no issues. My set up is to raise the ram on the press and screw the sizing die in until it touches the shell plate, bell the case just enough for the bullet to sit on it without tipping over, the seating die is adjusted out so the crimp does not contact the case mouth, and finally I use the LEE factory crimp die in the last station. The Factory crimp die not only crimps but Irons out any other bulges but most of the time my rounds never touch the carbide ring on this die. For 9mm I have been using Xtreme plated bullets exclusively and they are the same size as FMJ bullets 0.355" if you are using lead and they are sized 0.356" the bullet may be the reason they do not fit the gauge I have had this issue with my 40 and coated bullets using the EGW but most of them still fit the gun.
  16. I use both Ramshot Competition and WST, in my experience when working up loads I weigh each charge so I can take that variable out of the equation. Both powders meter very well for me usually less than 0.1 variation. I have used WST for 9mm, 40, & 45 in the 45 I get wide Extreme spreads but not in the 9 & 40. I think it may have something to do with the cartridge operating pressure. My 9mm and 40 loads have SDs in the 8-12 range and ES of around 30 but in the 45 ES runs 70-80. As far as the powder being sticky I have seen it stick to the walls of the powder measure but not much and like I said my drops are very consistent.
  17. Orbit, I also bought a new Edge this spring March I think. I have always liked 1911's and thought I would really like to have a 2011. I purchased the CRP Edge from Dawson and it has been great, I did a little tweaking on the trigger, changed the grip and magwell to better fit my hand and that's pretty much it. I also put my own mags together STI tubes, Grams springs and followers, Dawson +1 base pads. As for function I have about 2500-3000 rounds through it and as long as I feed it good ammo it runs good and is way more accurate than I can shoot it. Hopefully the OP will chime in with an update but I think you will like your new gun.
  18. I am interested in having this done in order to make my edge more reliable with coated lead bullets. Who would you recommend?
  19. I have a CRP EDGE from Dawson the gun has run well for me with my ammo. When I bought mine I used the extra I saved to buy my belt and holster. If I were buying again I would do the Brazos just for the tuned mags and hard chrome finish. I bought the parts and tuned my mags myself and they still cost $100 each. I think if you buy from Brazos there are things you will not have to do yourself or pay someone else to do for you later like a trigger job, my gun needed one pretty badly so I did it myself which was cool I learned a lot about the gun and its internal parts but I know not everyone likes to tinker.
  20. I agree with the above about RS Comp that is what I am using for now with 180gr. bullets. I do really like the WST, I have used it as well and when shot back to back with the RS Comp I find the feel is very similar. I can make major with a little less powder using the RS. BTW that load looks like it shoots very flat out of your Glock.
  21. Thanks for all of the replies. I opened a new box of bullets and the last 500 I loaded I had about 150 that I felt did not chamber freely enough. I ordered a sample pack of bullets sized to 0.400" and loaded 100 to see what the difference would be and found they chamber much more reliably. I measured a bunch of the bullets that were supposed to be 0.401" and found them to be 0.402" and some that were slightly over that. Using the coated that are sized smaller or the plated bullets the rounds fit my case gauge and drop freely into the chamber. Now I need to get out and chrono to see what the smaller diameter coated bullets do, I am not sure what to expect from the velocity.
  22. I have had a few of the pro-mag magazines. before you spend any money on them make sure they drop free from your gun the ones I had would not.
  23. I think the rules are fine as is for the most part, I don't agree with having to shoot a box stock gun or whatever IPSC does I like tinkering and trying to make my pistol better. I do think production should have a division weight limit not a gun by gun limit. Even if a guy shooting a polymer gun uses a tungsten guide rod he is still way lighter than a CZ or Tanfo.
