  1. Something I read here that helps my accuracy on the draw; look at the target and then drop your eyes to the ground without moving your head. Seems to help get my eyes on the sight better than looking at the target all the way through the draw. I desperately need to spend more time practicing my draw, it is the very lowest hanging fruit in my steel challenge shooting.
  2. Midsouth is a good place to look. Thanks man I just orderd 2000 147 grain for $157.48. Ditto, that's the best price I've seen on them.
  3. Clarify 32 30 for me. Do you mean a 32-20 case with .308 bullets? What type firearm? I'm not sure how much of my old 32-20 data I still have.
  4. We always shoot six stages at the regular monthly match.
  5. I fold a large bath towel so that I have four thicknesses of cloth. Lay towel out on loading bench and put brass 10-12 pieces at time on towel and roll them back and forth a couple times with the palm of my hand. I can clean a hundred pieces of brass, well enough to suit me, in 2-3 minutes. I repeat this process after sizing to get what little of the spray lube that is left. This is brass that I have loaded, shot, and then picked up and is not very dirty. I load and shoot the same 200 pieces of brass 5-7 times during the course of a month and leave it on the ground at the monthly match. Doesn't make sense to me to run my tumbler that much with that little brass in it.
  6. Put some sights on the G34, either the RMR or decent irons. Put 10,000 rounds through it before you "upgrade" anything.
  7. I used to belong to a message board that would frequently go dark towards the end of a month when they had used up their bandwidth. If Ben doesn't feel it is worth having that is cool but it would be nice if he would announce that it is gone for good. Edit: if it is gone for good.
  8. Ya'll must use better paint than we do.
  9. I have a .38 special Gold Cup. I would like to go the other way and convert it to 9mm or even .22lr. I know I would be better off selling it and buying a new gun. It does have some sentimental value though.
  10. I wouldn't want angle iron on the posts. 2x4s are pretty cheap and seem to take a good many hits before being scrapped. I don't shoot the posts myself but some folks at the monthly match do so with a vengeance. : )
  11. I've wondered about lighter bullets myself. Widener's has an Armscor 88 grain bullet listed but out of stock. Also, Hornady has a 100 grain fmj that is a lot cheaper than XTPs. Probably not as accurate though.
  12. If you have the patience to sort through the BS you can find cases of Federal Auto Match on gun broker at .08/round, before shipping.
  13. I came across this video today. Good POV of every shot Caleb Giddings fired at the 2012 championship. A very respectable score of 130 but slow enough that you can follow it and easily see his order of engagements. The great shooters go too fast for me to tell what they are doing. Edit; for some reason I can't post a link. I'm sure it would be easily found on youtube if anybody wants to watch.
  14. When you start on the far left that often leaves you moving right to left to get to the stop plate though. The order BJ shoots makes sense to me. Ponder on this; Showdown is completely symmetrical, left and right, how is your shooting order different from the left or right box? Showdown, from the right box is the only stage I'm not comfortable with the way I shoot it.
  15. I have used all brands (Edit: of US manufactured) standard small rifle primers in my Glock pistols with no problems. Could tell no difference what ever between them and pistol primers.
  16. What are your times for S&H and Roundabout? I shot Roundabout today and I'd like to compare. Last match, S&H 17.42 Roundabout 17.50
  17. I have decided that shooting smaller/further plates than regulation is good for stages like Pendulum but maybe not so good for stages like Smoke & Hope. Relative to people that shoot similar overall scores I make up time on Pendulum and lose time on Smoke & Hope. This past match I was only .08 slower on Roundabout than I was on Smoke and Hope. I have a roll of butcher paper that I can use to simulate the 18x24 plates and plan to incorporate that into my practice. In the past I have used 9" paper plates for everything.
  18. It matters to me if the same people are always painting and keeping score and the other guy is always picking up brass and generally dicking off. Like I said, it hasn't happened often.
  19. I have, just a few times, been squadded with people who picked up brass to the detriment of doing their fair share of helping to run the squad. That is aggravating. I take very well used brass to the match and leave it lay.
  20. Where I shoot we generally have six stages and it takes 3-4 hours to shoot. Depends on how smoothly the squad works together and if you have to wait on the squad ahead. Usually 5-6 people per squad and generally at least a couple of those will be shooting two entries. Some matches I kind of wish folks would slow down just a little. You would think some of them are being charged by the hour.
  21. Even the really good shooters seem to be slower on Showdown and Roundabout than S&H. I could see taking 1/2 second away from S&H and adding 1/2 second to Showdown. From a match Sevigny shot not long ago. S&H 8.54 Roundabout 9.42 Showdown 10.17
  22. An interesting thing, to me, about this new system is how the percentages are going to effect lower class shooters. I would currently be ranked as a high C class. I have one stage, Smoke & Hope with a B class time but the "harder" stages need a fair bit of improvement to get up to B class. This seems fairly typical to me of the scores at our club. They should use some kind of complex algorithm (that nobody understands) to compute the classifications below the GM level. (just kidding)
  23. I would assume that if they put those amounts into the suspense account it was because they didn't know what the charges were for. In other words, if there is a $30,000 credit card bill and you were missing a receipt for $100 you would only put the $100 amount in the suspense account, not the whole thing.
  24. I have some around that vintage or a little newer, an 11 ounce can of Bullseye with a $3.50 price tag and a 13 ounce can of Unique that was $2.75. I'm saving it for an emergency.
