  1. I have hit a plateau or at least my progress has slowed to a crawl. As I understand the new classification system I would be barely into B class. My best times for the six classifier stages add up to 112. Normal practice is to set up a stage with paper targets and shoot that. I'm wondering if I would be better off shooting different drills of some type instead. If so, what?

Yes, I like the .100 wide on the G17, might try one size wider on a G34.

On my guns anyways I should have said the .300 is just right instead of barely tall enough. I would rather have the rear sight down almost as low as it will go than have to raise it to get a zero.

I have the Dawson adjustable on two different Glocks and the .300 is just barely tall enough on both of them. Front sights are relatively cheap and relatively easy to install.
  5. I don't have any with the micrometer seating die although I think it would be handy for some applications and overkill for others. If you should happen to buy Redding pistol dies make sure you order the right ones. They have one set that has an expander die (which you won't need for the 1050) and the other set exchanges the expander die for a separate crimp die.
  6. I have at least one set of every brand. They all work. I think Redding dies are worth the premium price. Lee is my least favorite.
  7. I feel more comfortable shooting left to right. I don't have solid data to prove I'm better shooting that way though. I'm right handed and shoot with my right eye closed. I don't have a strongly dominant eye but my left eye focuses better on the sight. When I was a little kid I tried to get my left eye over the sights of my bb gun. I wish my dad would have trained me to shoot left handed.
  8. You didn't by any chance take that pin out when you were installing them did you?
  9. It shouldn't do that. Mine don't. You have two options, send it back to Dawson for repair or replacement or fix it yourself.
  10. I have a couple of them on high round count guns with no problem. I would call Dawson and talk to them.
  11. Good deal on the winnings.
  12. I would be real interested to see the difference, if any, in the targets ya'll are using and the ones we are using. I've only been shooting steel challenge for a little less than two years, 21 matches or so. I've never been hit hard by a frag and have not heard of anybody else getting hit. A piece of bullet jacket will usually flutter down on me from above once or twice a match.
  13. I thought S&H was the same time as Roundabout and Showdown? (which didn't seem right) Has there been an update since this first came out? Good luck at the match.
  14. I don't think a chronograph is necessary at all unless you have a requirement for insuring that your ammo meets a specific power factor. People have been sucessfully loading metallic cartridges for 150 years or so, chronographs have been cheap and readily available for a relatively short time.
  15. I shoot 115 grain. Not a real good reason other than is what I started with. I have loads that I like and are accurate so I just stick with it. My brother just switched over to 147 grain and they are softer shooting. We both shoot Glocks with stock recoil springs.
  16. Keep a little oil on those Dawson sights. Especially living in coastal SC.
  17. Strongly agree that the .300 is the correct height. I like the .100 wide fiber optic but I've never had one on a long G34 so ymmv.
  18. Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen anybody bag a centerfire pistol between stages at the steel challenge match I shoot.
  19. I was speaking in terms of peoples belief that gas cutting causes barrel leading. Don't know about the vaporization.
  20. I think gas cutting of the bullet base is mostly myth. I have recovered lost of cast bullets that still had lube on the base. If the gases aren't melting beeswax they sure aren't cutting lead.
  21. You should look at a G30 also. You could shoot heavy metal and major subcompact with it. Several of the top guys around here do that and I don't really think you give up much over the G21. That said, I'm using my prize pistol certificate for a G21.
  22. That guy ahead of you could get a bump to master class.
  23. I don't care who shows up; it's always nice to be closer to the top than to the bottom.
  24. I thought about shooting 5 to Glock 3,2,1,5,4 but I watched several guys tank doing that and decided left to right was the right choice for me. I am going to practice this set up some more in the future. When I walked up to that stage and saw it I probably should have walked away and pondered it for a bit longer. My first thought was "this is jacked up", and didn't really see a better way to go. I have also seen the same V type set up where the open end of the v was towards the shooting box with two close targets, two middle, and one far. That I shot left to right and it was much more comfortable and faster.
  25. That is exactly how they had it set up when I learned for the first time that they could be set up differently. I shot it 3, 2,1, 5, 4 which seemed to work fairly well. Double check the rules on shooting more than two entries back to back. Unless they have an "express bay" set up you might not be able to. I have found the best way to get in and out of a match is to be there 30-45 minutes before the stated registration time on Sunday morning.
