Anybody is welcome to shoot the novice division at Griffin Gun Club which is from low ready. It doesn't really get a lot of participation though. I don't see any downside to allowing it.

This is what I have found to be true for me when shooting the same centerfire pistol. Practicing for GSSF versus steel challenge. I'm consistently .5-.6 faster to the first shot from low ready than from a holster.

I guess Dave likes a six o'clock hold. My brother bought a set of fixed sights from them that shot way high. They swapped it out under their "perfect impact" guarantee.

I have the .300 tall sight on a G17 and a G30 and it seems just right to me on both of them. Still only have 2-3 clicks left on the rear sight from being bottomed out.

N340 is a very good 9mm powder.

The proposed new classification system makes sense to me on a per stage basis but I'm not sure how they will be computed together. I can see several ways it could be done.

That would be terrible. They are probably a lower volume item but they do seem fairly popular.

Get a Dawson adjustable rear and FO front. When you win your pistol at the Glock match; take them off the borrowed gun and put them on yours.

I have some HSLD aviation grease my brother gets from his work. Mobilgrease 28. Supposedly what Geissele recommends for triggers.

4.8 grains of n340 with 115 grain HAP bullets is a good load in my Glock pistols. Also 4.1 grains Bullseye and 4.0 grains n320 All the above are accurate in my G17 & 26 and about the minimum I trusted for reliable function with the stock recoil spring. Put a dab of grease on the connector instead of oil. I think it stays smooth longer than oil.

I thought about it after my post and I'm sure you are right. I think they might have been years ago. Some of the old stuff I found online had "challenge" in the name but recently it's just Griffin Steel Match. The state match has all eight SC stages though.

The Georgia state match is at Griffin Gun Club (not far from ATL) in February. It's been the first Saturday (and the Friday before the first Saturday) in February the past two years but I don't know if that date is carved in stone. Zack, do you know if the GA state match is officially sanctioned?

I load 4.8 grains of N340 with a 115 grain bullet. That is as light as seems reliable with a factory Glock recoil spring. I periodically think about getting a lighter after market spring.

Our monthly local match generally has 120-130 entries. I would guess no more than two of the semi regulars might shoot the nationals and that is only because there are a couple of nationally competitive shooters here. It seems like we are talking about two separate things.

Seems like a happy medium would be to rotate 2-3 standard stages through every month and have the rest be "whatever". I set up and shoot a stage almost every day. I will practice a particular stage in concept only. Close range faster targets, longer range targets etc. Partly out of being to lazy to measure the course out and partly because I like to think I'm getting practical shooting practice.

I can see it both ways. We always shoot six official stages every month and it's nice to be able to measure my progress from month to month. Would be ok if they decided to mix it up some and make new stages also. @ToddKS, we have a "novice" division where you shoot centerfire from low ready. At the club I shoot it has very little participation. No reason not to have it though for those that aren't comfortable drawing.

An indoor, air conditioned, match sounds pretty good the way this summer is shaping up here in the south.

We paint between each shooter. If somebody is shooting two guns they can do whatever they want. Don't remember anybody shooting back to back choosing to get the targets painted between the two guns but it is frequently offered. Some guys split their two entries, either because of not enough magazines or because they just want to. I don't shoot with the super squad but they have a box of remanufactured ammo up for 1st place prize so they might be pickier.

I can get behind this also. Make more stages that require movement or otherwise tests skills. Make a mandatory reload for instance. My problem is this one stage that doesn't fit the others as SC is now.

I actually like the longer range targets and would kind of like to have a 50 yard shot but I know that would be even more troublesome for some ranges. The movement on the clock and the four strings of fire are what rubs a raw spot on my OCD. Showdown does also but to a lesser extent.

I think that if USPSA starts to actually take an interest in Steel Challenge they should consider dropping, or changing, Outer Limits. My reasons are; A lot of clubs don't have enough space to set it up. At the club I shoot at we have competitors who are so old and crippled up they can barely get to the line with their canes and walkers (no exaggeration). It is the stage anybody would pick as "the one that doesn't fit". Requires movement on the clock and there are only four strings of fire.

My memory is kind of fuzzy but I think the very first Glocks put a big guppy belly in the brass.

You should have no problems. I try to get 5-6 reloads worth out of my Glocked 9mm before I leave them lay at a match.

I used One Shot for a long time but recently converted to homemade lanolin and alcohol lube. I'm not going back.

Marietta wouldn't be a bad drive other than the whole getting on the other side of Atlanta ordeal. If a fellow wanted his fill of steel challenge he could shoot six stages with two guns on Friday afternoon and then repeat Saturday morning and again Saturday afternoon.
