  1. If - during a course of fire - you shoot your firearm before you 'mean to' should you DQ yourself? Would being at a local or Major match change your mind? Example: WSB calls for switch of hands from strong hand to weak hand after a mandatory reload. Upon performing reload, shooter switches hand and presents gun to target. Scenario 1: The sights are close to the target but not in an ideal alignment for taking the shot. Meanwhile, the trigger finger gets into the trigger guard and presses the trigger -before actually finishing the sight alignment. Scenario 2: Shooter is shooting strong or weak hand only. Engaging targets and bumps the trigger - causing a 'double tap' instead of a controlled pair. Thoughts?

  4. A while ago one of my shooting buddies wanted to go that route. 165s for his action shooting game of choice. So we loaded a few hundred for test at the range. That was the absolute longest I've ever been at the press to make a batch of 9mm. Exactly as the OP mentioned. OAL that was just all over the place. It settled down when we fed the press with new Starline - straight from the box. Aside from the slight stick at the power funnel that is... 9mm brass is like a box of chocolates.... FED and WIN would be about the only thing I try to load the 165s with. (we ultimately abandoned that project for a number of reasons)
  5. The Dillon seating die isn't supposed to have any crimp function. That's easy to check - flare a case and then measure the bell. Then run it through the seating die without actually seating a bullet - then measure the bell. I've never done that check myself - but I don't have the problem with bullet slaughter you're having at the seating die. Loading 40S&W - I did notice a very high failure rate at the case gauge. That was range brass with the Glock bulge. I now run brass through a Redding G-RX die before loading. Redding doesn't make that die for 9mm but Lee makes a kit that is based on the factory crimp die. Since 9mm is a tapered case and not a true straight wall, I'm curious how that would work. I would think that - as long as the die's inner dimension is .391 for the base and not .381 for the mouth - it should be good to go.

  8. +1 for Sport Pistol Have a load that easily makes major with 180gr Blue Bullets loaded to 1.200" and works equally well with jacketed. Also using it with 124/125 and 135gr 9mm. Very clean and seems to be pretty temperature stable. For me, a more economical choice than N320.
  9. Remington small pistol 1 1/2 (and small rifle 6 1/2) have warnings about using them in high pressure rounds like 40S&W and .223 I'm not sure how that warning and "hard cups" go together. When Federal primers dried up (yes, this was years ago) I switched to Remington for use in modified Glocks. The Remingtons would ignite when Winchester, CCI, and S&B did not. Since then, I've used Rem 1 1/2 in all my 9mm loads - though I no longer shoot heavily modified Glocks. I've already read reports of folks saying Fed primers led to abnormal breach face wear with 170+ PF loads. Though, TeamCarverCustom post says theirs have been fine. Curious though about that warning on Remington 1 1/2 primers....
  10. My 320X5 likes the RMR 124JHP. I load it with 4.0gr of Sport Pistol. Solid reliability and excellent grouping which means I don't have to worry about my ammo in practice or a match. I can focus on what's important. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  11. The PPQ is also pretty picky about OAL... So I picked an OAL that will plunk in that barrel to avoid having too many "special" boxes of ammo on the 9mm shelf. The VP9-L was used because I just added it to the collection not long ago. It may not find a home in my USPSA routine but it may just become my IDPA SSP.

  13. As a side note, PCC performs better running ammo closer to 141. When I say perform I'm wrapping up cycle rate and accuracy. I'll also say that in my testing - FMJ produced far better groups than plated and/or coated. Plated and coated targets had more of a pattern while FMJ/JHP definitely had groups - with shots touching - @ 25 yards.

  16. Glad I found this thread. I am looking to replace my current set of "match mags" and am looking at MBX. I have a set of 2nd GEN STI tube mags that have been tuned - but there's some 'stuff' going on. I have noticed there seems to be 2 different models, or perhaps a mid-life upgrade to the original Gen 2? The early Gen2 tubes I picked up simply have the STI Logo and "40 S&W" stamped on the front of the mag. Newer tubes have the STI logo and 10 / 40 stamped on the front. It also looks as though the 'flat' surface just under the opening of the front has been elongated. I do notice that cartridges tend to 'stack' better on the "10 / 40" body, than the "40 S&W" body. The 10 / 40 do not gap at the feed lip like the "40 S&W" bodies. I would probably need a slew of pictures to illustrate all of that clearly.
  17. I picked up an STI "HP" Eagle in 9mm from Brazo's and found a DVC Limited locally. They are both good guns. As a reward to myself for meeting some personal and professional goals, I picked up an Atlas. I had originally decided to go the Custom Titan route but after talking with Adam I decided on a Nemesis. What can I say, the guy is a good salesman. The Nemesis has not disappointed.
  18. I've had my VP9-B for a couple of months, and it's only seen light range use, until yesterday. Brought the VP9-B and its Longshadow holster to the range to start working on some IDPA style drills. The pistol was running great until it wasn't. While trying to insert a mag I was met with a very odd crunchy feeling. Removed the mag and it was followed by the plate/mechanism that is supposed to hold the mag release in place. Of course with that piece out, the mag release/button slid right out. Ok, range trip over! Came home to research what the heck just happened. I can't find any online chatter about it. I did find a YouTube video from an HK'er that describes how to reverse the magazine release. Following that, I should be able to re-insert the mechanism. My first try didn't go as smoothly as the pro-staffers (probably edited) demonstration. I'll try again later with fresh eyes and less frustration. Has anyone else experienced this? Has it happened to the same pistol more than once?
  19. My first experience with Syntech was with the 45AUTO 230gr. I was shooting a GSSF and didn't have enough of my own stuff to make it through 2 divisions (heavy metal with Gen4-21 and Major Sub with 30S). So, i used the Syntech in the 21 and ran my stuff in the 30S. That's exactly the thing you want to do right? Use a scored match to shoot unknown ammo? It's 'just' GSSF and it worked out fine. POA/POI shift wasn't enough to matter and it cycled the gun with a very comfortable recoil pulse. Fast forward a couple of years and I have a few boxes of the 150 grain 9mm Syntech on the shelf to try out. I'm also interested in getting my hands on some Sytntech PCC to run in my MBX rifle. I'm currently in the middle of load development and would to compare to other 'specialized' ammunition. Is there some sort of connection between "official USPSA endorsed ammo" and the chrono checks at majors?
  20. Add me to the list in favor of a 180gr Blue Bullet with Sport Pistol. I used up my Federal Primers and switched to Winchester SP. The SD remained in the single digits and Winchesters are usually easy to find. for what it's worth - I use Remington 1 1/2 primers for 9mm minor loads. They achieve single digit SD and though I did have to adjust the charge. Down actually - seems Rem primers burn a little hotter. These primers have warnings about using them in 40S&W loads which is why I went with Winchester.
  21. Curious what you don't like about HP38/Win231? I'm currently using HP38/231 in my 40 Limited Gun (Atlas Nemesis 2011) running 165gr Zero FPs. My complaint with HP38 is the same with Titegroup - those powders burn VERY hot. I've recently tried Sport Pistol from Alliant. It's got a LOT of promise with 180gr FMJs and Coated bullets.
  22. My expectations are probably most of the problem. I had not shot the PCC from a solid rest up to this point. IF we can call the lead sled 'placed' on a table without any weights in the tray - a solid rest. I'm running an 8MOA dot in the C-more and the dot covered the entire 'sticker' that I was using as a point of aim on the target. Being fairly novice in the shooting sports, I compared this group to what I have seen in my rifle calibers. All things considered, I guess this is pretty acceptable. It did get me thinking about 'group testing' the pistol loads, and what would be necessary to do that. Naturally, the ransom rest comes to mind. Given the requirements for action pistol shooting and my level of effort to this point - the money would be better spent on more materials to make practice/range ammo and refine skills. At some point, it will probably be necessary to jump in the rabbit hole and chase those tighter groups. However, I don't think I'm there, yet.
  23. So, I've learned a lot about myself during this Practical Shooting adventure. Number one among them, my OCD has no bounds and it is only kept in check my ADD. For that reason, I have NOT used a ransom rest. Even though I surf over to their website and start pricing them EVERY TIME I see someone post results obtained by using one. Add to that my latest adventure this weekending. I put my PCC into a lead sled to zero a new optic @ 25 yards. Seeing the group size (about 1 inch) was enough to start the "how can I improve this?" train of thought. I spent the whole drive home lamenting over what I had just accomplished. If my PCC is "that bad" then my pistol loads must be atrocious. And the only way to find out.....
