  1. Exactly how I feel. I finished 3rd from the bottom at the last match I shot and I’m thrilled.
  2. How many rounds down the barrel? I don’t know what the deal is with pistol barrels, but rifle barrels are a consumable item. Is it possible you shot the barrel out?
  3. This is awesome and I'm thrilled to have found this thread. I have a solid 20 to lose. I'm at close to 200 at 5'8, which is the heaviest I've ever been. Just turned 50. Same stuff as the OP, however I work on my feet which has probably helped me to not go so big. However it's all a personal thing. I'm back at the gym 5 days a week. Lifting 3 days, walking 2 days. 30ish minutes right now and will probably move it up to 40 minutes next week. So far it's been good. I'm there at open and home to cook my wife and I's breakfast and help with the dogs. Hoping that slow and steady will get it done. Now it's on to the nutritional aspect, which is the hardest for me. I need to cut back on sugar and unhealthy fats/carbs and add a bunch of veggies. My biggest issue is that my wife is not a huge veggie lover. I'm sure I'll manage tho. Good luck @Andy9 in your journey.
  4. Are you shooting with a curved shoe or a flat? Reason I ask, the curved shoe will shorten reach by nature of it's shape. The flat will give you that extra little bit of length. The flat will also be easier to affix something to to make the reach a bit longer. Good luck.
  5. This is so over my head. Seems like an awesome video and I'll have to look him up. Thanks for the info.
  6. I’m curious to see what’s up with the slide. That said, I’m a cheapskate and if it runs, and runs well, I’d probably leave it be.
  7. Just a FWIW... My buddy cleans motorcycle parts. He fills the tub up with water, puts the parts in a ziploc and fills the ziploc with cleaner, closes it and lets the machine do its thing. He finds that he is using much less solution. YMMV
  8. I too have started out shooting a 6 shot revolver. I have a 625. Beating semi's is a hoot. I've not finished dead last yet (close though) but am having a ball giving it hell. I say go for it. The point is, unless you're making a living off of it, to have fun.
  9. Pretty much. Only real reason I went with the 700 is because I’m looking to do my own work. And, I now barrel my own. Unless ash you’re looking for a serious custom, the RPR is tough to beat.
  10. Any chance you can elaborate? Is this supposed to be coming this year? 8 shot? Steel cylinder? Thanks for any info you can pass along.
  11. FWIW, this is some fascinating stuff. I’ve just caught up and have some ideas but am not sure if I can pull it off. We’ll see
  12. Done. I almost forgot as I did it a good while ago. When I first bought the gun. Thank you. @AzShooter I am trying to do that in the morning but am not as diligent as I should be. I will attempt to be more consistent. Thank you.
  13. So, I don’t shoot any formal matches. I shoot strictly at a local, informal level with handguns. My pistol of choice is a 625JM. Last match, Sunday night, I was approached by a buddy. His question to me: Why do you shoot a revolver? Semis are so much easier and faster. I think, in my humble opinion, that that is the crux of the issue. Changing scoring and rules will do very little(at least in my neck of the woods)to bring any new wheel gunners in to the sport shooting world. They simply are not competitive with the bottom-feeding crowd. A moderately quick semi shooter will put gun a decent wheel gunner every time. Yes, there are exceptions, but at the level I’m speaking of, they don’t exist. It’s fun to be competitive. It’s fun to post fast times. And it’s just easier to do both with a semi auto. Make the “divisions” as easy and relaxed as possible. Keep revolvers separate. Y’all can sweat the details as I’m not knowledgeable enough to offer an opinion on them. But probably separate divisions for 6, 7, and 8 shot with “stock” and “open” and call it good. Make it easy to understand and have fun. That’s why most of us are here, right? Horribly un-informed post I know. Hopefully the spirit comes through.
  14. I have replaced the springs in my 625JM. I used the Miculek mainspring and a #14 rebound spring from Wilson Combat. I have also taken a saw and file to the hammer and cut the spur off. I also took an Arkansas stone and smoothed out inside the action and added a little oil (something they don't seem fond of at the factory). I did NOT touch the sear surfaces, I'm not there yet. I'm getting reliable ignition after a little experimentation. I am also not short stroking the trigger, which was an issue with the lighter spring. I shot it in a very casual match the other evening and like it a bunch. It's good enough for this guy. That said, am I missing anything else? Thanks in advance.
  15. I completely agree with the above statement. I'd imagine it's a threading issue more than it's a brake issue. I am glad they're working on it for you. Good luck.
  16. Since I don’t take it at all seriously, this is pretty much my way. I generally leave the match with a smile. That’s success to me.
  17. FWIW, in a non-folding stock, take a look at the KRG Bravo. Sub $400 and pretty awesome. If I hadn't totally committed to FTR this year I'd have grabbed one.
  18. Great info. I'm running a 625 as well. It's already a ton of fun. No Clay's by me, currently. I'm running 185's and 200's with a moderate load of W231 and it's fine. I may have to try TrailBoss at some point although I'm not a fan of the smell. But, it'll be fun.
  19. This is fascinating and all so confusing to a newbie like me. It's amazing what goes into this. Thanks for all the info.
  20. I currently have the stock grips back on the pistol. The "JM" grips. I'm gonna try them one more time. Moonclip holder... my jeans pocket. Keeping it super simple and fun for now as it's a club level match.
  21. So, I sold the TK release. I'm now looking for something that is not sooooooo long... I've seen the Revo Supply ones but am mildly sketched out by the fact that they're polymer. Is there anything else out there with a little somethin-somethin so I'm not so inclined to miss but isn't as long as the TK/Hogue ones?
