  1. Well hell, help a brother out... Actually I'm good. Summer is long gun season for me.
  2. I don't plan on getting super competitive. Just competitive enough that I can bust a couple of balls along the way. I was the only wheel gunner at the last club match that I shot. I'd like to keep it that way, actually. More funnerer. Whatever that is, I don't think they exist around me.
  3. This is awesome. Definitely a struggle for me. I'm hoping to work on dryfire drills this weekend. Thanks all.
  4. I'm glad I stumbled across this. I'm considering a RDS for a revolver that will be used in local matches during the off season. Primarily I'm a rifle/FTR guy. Great info.
  5. The Ruger Precision in .223 is pretty awesome out of the box. Price allows for decent glass. If I was looking, it's where I would look.
  6. I've had both and prefer non-folding. Other than taking it from the bag to a range and looking super awesome snapping it into place... Yeah, that's about it. Cleaning, sure.
  7. So I do have some parts on the gun. I think I don’t like the TK Customs cylinder release and will be getting a Revolver Supply one instead. The TK is very nicely made but is a bit too long for me.
  8. So it sounds like to have some mildly competitive fun, dry fire and reload practice will put me on the curve. I can live with that. Fir or dry fire practice, what drills should I look to do?
  9. Wow. This is awesome. Thanks all. Im righty and load strong hand.
  10. Howdy all. I'm gonna start running my 625 in local matches a bit more regularly. Mostly just to keep shooting as I'm mostly a FTR guy but my "season" doesn't start until April. So, out of boredom... Anyway, here I am. I've replaced/upgraded some parts on the revolver already, with a couple of more on the way. I have a couple of moon clips set up to practice reloads. But I'm looking for more advice/tips/tricks to get a little faster. I pretty much suck. Which is fine as this is not a source of income for me (thank God). It is just a part of the firearms hobby I enjoy. So, how does one that sucks get to being one that does not? I won't be going to the range 5 times a week. Right now, I'm lucky if I can get there for matches. So, I'm looking for dry fire exercises I can do for 10-15 minutes a day. Also, I'm looking for holster recommendations. I'd much prefer to keep it to a standard style holster as opposed to a Double Alpha set-up in case I have to carry around the yard for a quick trip to the garage or something. My current set up: 625JM 4" Hi-Viz F.O. front sight/stock rear TK Customs extended cylinder release JM grips (these could change) I have a WC spring kit in hand and a Miculek spring kit on the way. I'll be very lightly stoning my action, bobbing my hammer and most likely smoothing the face of my trigger. Equipment aside, I really want practice tips. Books/videos/YouTube links are welcome. Thanks a bunch.
  11. Howdy all. Does anyone make a "plain" or non-textured 2011 grip for those that want to stipple themselves?
  12. If I owned a chrono... So, no. I didn't. Going off the book, somewhere around 725ish fps. Definitely not a major load. C
  13. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... That's better. A light load of Win 231 under a 200gn bullet. MUCH more comfortable!!! Seemed pretty accurate as well. I liked it. The grips still need changed, but I can take it until the new ones arrive. C
  14. Thanks again for all the help. I truly appreciate it. Gonna grab the Pachy's and look for something better. I'd like to find something without the finger grooves and if it comes to sanding them, I shall. If I can find a pair of Hogue grips for a decent price, I'll grab them, too. From a looks perspective, I like the ones with the top finger groove, any opinions on them? C
  15. I'm hoping to try some different grips out. We'll see what happens. Thanks again for all the good advice. C
  16. 231 is a really good powder. Put an old tooth brush in your back pocket and in between shooting, clean under the star. That'll work. Anyone got any tips on grips? I know I don't want "Big Butt's". I was looking at the round to square Hogues in "Lamo-Camo". Any thoughts? Or, should I stick with Pachmyers? C
  17. Thanks for the tips on powder. As of this moment I have a couple of pounds of 231 on hand so that's what I need to use. I'll make the switch to Clay's when that's all most done. I got what I could find at the time. C
  18. Got the "JM" out to the range tonight. In short I really like the gun. Stoopid accurate with the right loads. Lots of ommph. .45acp is a truly fun round to shoot although it's a completely different experience in a revolver. I felt every bit of extra powder in the rounds from one loading to the next. Kinda amazing. Did I mention it's stoopid accurate? First order of business is to change the grips. The stock ones are cool looking and very comfortable in the store but on the range, for me, not so much. Not sure if I'm going to go with Pachmayr or something else. I have a pair on my 686+ and like them. Most likely I'll go with rubber although wood does catch my fancy. However this isn't a show piece, I plan on shooting it a bunch. Next step will be changing the front sight. The gold dot is nice, but F.O. is just so much faster and easier for me. I think Hi-Viz will be the one to get the nod as, again, it's what I have on my 686. Eventually I'll get the cylinder chamfered/reamed, but that can wait a tiny bit. I put 215(don't ask) rounds thru the gun tonight. All reloads. Ran without a hitch. I had 150 rounds already loaded in moon clips and I must say, shooting alone, with the clips already loaded, one goes thru ammo FAST. Really fast. So far the gun likes 230gn LRN over Titegroup with a LPP. She likes it a bunch better than Unique. I have some 231 that I am gonna give a try next. But with the Titegroup it was on point at 7.5 yards. Thanks for reading. I'll keep the reports coming if you like. C
  19. Hey Alec. As to the term, it's the technical stuff on actually shooting a stage and the rule stuff. No biggie. Once I start shooting, it'll all come clear. I would love to meet up at a match. My attendance at them will be pretty sporadic to start but I'm looking forward to it. I think I sent my cell along in a PM a while ago. Shoot me a text or call and we'll make arrangements. Or send me yours and I'll give you a shout. I have been looking for LPPs for a bit now. Pretty scarce. I have an ad up on the other board for a trade. Keep your fingers crossed. I'm down to my last 500. For the stones and such, thanks for the link. Much appreciated. C
  20. I bought a bnib 625 JM and I am looking for any info or tips as it relates to competing with this gun. Honestly, when I read the posts here, I don't really know what any of you are talking about. A lot of technical data that I don't know the meaning of. I am not looking to win any matches, just to have a really good time and shoot the snot out of my gun. I am getting a pancake style leather holster which although not the fastest, will make me happy. I'll be sending a check off to the maker in the next day or so so that work can get underway. Im using Sam Andrews in Florida. I've seen his work in person and it is absolutely gorgeous stuff. I bit of a wait, but that's fine. I'll be starting at very small, local matches so starting from a "Low-Ready" position won't be a problem. What would y'all recommend for moon clip holders? I'd like them to be somewhat "practical" so maybe more in line with IDPA type stuff. I prefer to shoot more "real life" than not. Any other suggestions for when I'm on a flat range and practicing? Dry fire? As for modding the gun, I want to shoot it stock first and figure out what I am going to change that way as opposed to going all willy-nilly. Planned mods are a F.O. front sight and to ream and chamfer the cylinders. I'll be looking to do most of the other work myself, so I'll be getting JM's vids and possibly the Kuunhausen book(s). I have Brian's book already and am halfway through it. I can't post pics as my files are too large and I don't have enough posts to put a link in. Thanks in advance. Christopher
  21. Lived in Texas for a couple of years and fell in love with the phrase. C
