  1. Awesome! Welcome to the sickness... Are you interested in Pistols, rifles, shotguns or all 3?
  2. I might be asking for a lot....What is the difference between mid length and rifle length gas tube's? Mid and rifle length is referring to the gas port location on the barrel. Most of the 16" barrels come with the carbine or mid length system and most 18+ utilize mid or rifle length systems. Just get the correct gas tube for the barrel that you purchase. If you get a true low pro gas block, it will fit under most free float hand guards even if the hand guard is made for a longer system. Hope I am not confusing you. All good answers - I run a 1 in 8 twist because I use hand loads with a minimum 60 grains - usually 70+. I would recommend 1 in 9 if you are going to shoot factory 55 grain ammunition. As for Carbine vs Mid vs Rifle gas tubes and buffers. My understanding is that with the same barrel length and tube pressure(lets say 16.5") Carbine delivers the most gas the fastest, mid then rifle the least to the bolt carrier group. the less gas at a slower speed = less recoil with the trade off being less energy in the BCG. A Carbine gas system has the benefit of running under most adverse conditions (dirty parts, water, etc.) where the rifle length system may fail to cycle the rifle completely. Buffer systems similarly provide different stroke lengths at different energy levels. This is a mechanical action and there is always a trade off. My competition rifle, well maintained and with match ammunition, kicks like a 22 and rarely fails to cycle completely. My carbine, on the other hand, will run crappy ammunition, dirty, wet and pissed off but requires more of my energy to tame it for follow up shots and is less forgiving for accuracy all around. Hope this helps...
  3. I took some of the advice from this thread and put it to use at yesterdays 3 gun match. I found just by being repetitive and viewing each stage the same way it really helped my focus. My new practice is: 1) Walk through and count shots 2) Walk through and identify transitions, mag changes, shotgun reloads, etc. 3) Walk through as though I am shooting the stage Past - Set - Paste - Talk Smack - Paste - etc. 4) In the hole - Take a few moments to breath, settle down and focus (I get over excited before I shoot) 5) On Deck (during the reset and being respectful of the shooter that is up) - Walk Through as though I am shooting the stage again 6) Let her rip!
  4. I think you will see it come back as more people are loading 2 often strong handed. I ran a 3 gun match yesterday that required 26 shots. After I expired the tube and both 8 round dual loads I loaded 4 strong hand from an AP caddy. I try to keep them all practiced up. You never know when you are going to be laying on your side shooting in some messed up position and need to load in some goofy way. I am working on the Qualoads right now - I am a Taccom Dealer and need to make sure I can do it. Here is a video I put together a little while ago showing all the methods for guys getting started:
  5. At Yesterdays match one of the more respected (older) guys was wearing a new setup based off the Condor Chest Rig which looked really hardy and came in just under $100 shipped for 16 shells. Check it out at www.load2chestrig.com.
  6. You asked a mouthful! .223/5.56 is the one thing I doubt there will be much debate on for 3 gun. I run an 18" barrel but the winds are changing a bit on the longer barrels. Some of the top shooters are running pinned 14.5 and 16s because they index faster. I have run both Carbine and Mid Length gas system with the corresponding buffers. I really like the mid-length gas and the rifle length buffer with the JP BCG, fire control and buffer. Upper is VLTOR, the handguard is Midwest Industries and the comp is SJC Titan. This combo is very smooth... Here is a link to the upper I am using with a video showing it in action: http://hawkeyeordnance.com/hawkeye-ordnance-3gun-upper.html Just some ideas for you - hope they help! M
  7. Schultz Slugs have a tendency to shoot high left with an open bore. What slugs and choke, if any are you using? I switched to reduce recoil slugs for competition and that helped some. When I use an Improved choke it is pretty close to right on with my JM930. Not sure if it helps but I would mess with loads and chokes before screwing with the gun assuming it is doing want you want it to with bird and buck loads. M
  8. I have been running the JM930 all season and, while it indexes smoothly and shoots fast, it has been a bit of a maintenance nightmare. My good friend bought his at the same time and hasn't had a single issue with the gun. With only a 2 gun sample I would encourage Mossberg to take a few extra minutes at the end of the line to make sure they are not shipping lemons or even loose parts for that matter. Just one rookies POV.
  9. Well, you have as nice a rifle as anyone shooting - should suit you just fine. Enjoy J-Rob, that is a hell of a pop gun en route...
  10. I started out with the PEPR and a Burris for 3 gun. It was pretty good setup. When I switched to the Vortex and continue to use the PEPR. There are a bunch of other options out there that cost between 20 and 100% more. The PEPR does its's job well - optic holds zero. Having said all that I would probably spend an extra 20-30 bucks for a more premium option for one reason only. Weight! at roughly 8.5 oz it is nearly 2oz heavier than the similarly priced offering from Vortex and the pricey mounts from JP and Larue. Just my 2 bits.
  11. Welcome to the forum and the sickness that is multi-gun!

  13. +1 on Brownells for price and customer service. Midway USA is also very good if it isn't in stock at Brownells
  14. They have to come off somehow. There is no way to get a screaming monkey into those things if they don't. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  15. I would seriously consider going past flush for 10 total assuming you are shooting one of the tactical classes in 3 gun. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  16. I have had 2. The first was the cheapest one - the one I bought for my kids but it had no extra crap on it. When I removed all the seating it had a perfectly flay rectangular tube that allowed me to run my range bag flat. I wish I never passed it along to my buddy and new 3 gunner. I inherited another one from a friends garage (boy scouts is a good place to get leads on jogging strollers) which has shocks and brakes and seems perfect but... It isn't. I had to unscrew a bunch of parts "Baby Tray" among them and my bag doesn't lay flat anymore. Having said that my guns ride like an old caddy now.
  17. Here is a video with 3 different loading methods from a couple angles. Quaoload starts at 7:15. Hope it helps
