  1. We shoot in the cold all the time up here in MN. Good gloves, Fuel and fluids for the body are a must. I usually just drop my right hand glove just after making my pistol ready and then let the adrenaline take it from there. Come up and train in the Great White North sometime. We can help you solve that even in July some years!!!
  2. Welcome to the forums and good luck with the 3 gun sickness

  6. I just want to throw this into the ring. There are not a lot of women in the game yet but that has been changing quickly in the last year or so. Most of the advice here doesn't contemplate that you could very well be top lady just by getting into the game. We need more women in the sport. It is good for a lot of reasons including PR, which is more important than ever right now. Not to put a bunch of crap on you but I know some amazing women that made the transition to 3 Gun that you are contemplating now and I think they see the opportunity of being early adopters in their gender and that the sky is the limit for them in the sport. Why am I writing this to you this morning? No clue - I guess I am urging you to make sure the gear you select is up to the challenge. JP is the gold standard and you can't go wrong if you have the $$$. There are other great, made for, rifles out there that are less expensive - avoid starting with a standard AR-15 (if possible) and get a competition rifle and optic so you can hit the ground running! In the long run it will save you money unless you intend to become a rifle builder. Top Lady probably awaits you sooner than top dude is available to my fellows and I. Good luck and welcome to the sickness.
  7. Here is a vid we did to help new guys get into the game. There are a few others in the series but this is the clear favorite:

  9. Just tell you RO what you plan on doing and ask them the best (preferred) way to do it and you will be fine at any match.
  10. I would have said you gain nothing until I bit the bullet and moved up to a JP rifle length buffer and Spring. It is noticeably quitter when charging, smoother when functioning and less stout when recoiling. I can't tell you why without speculating but it sure does run better than the mil spec setup I started with.
  11. +1 on the smaller dot. You can generally increase the size of a 2 MOA dot with a brighter setting but you can never make a 4 MOA dot smaller.
  12. Welcome to the sickness... Is there anyone in your circle that would let you run their gear for a match or two. If so I would ask. There are so many options and while I am not familiar with Jersey I would give the same advice to any new 3 gun shooter. Borrow until you are sure what you want and which class you want to shoot in. If after a match or two you are sure you are in then buy the right long guns for your game. AR15 - most of the shops, JP included, will set you up with a compliant rifle. JP is awesome but not the only game in town. Shotgun - I think you should at least consider a semi auto. Benelli is the first choice of most. An M1 can be purchased for $700 and with a few mods can be a great shotgun. M2 is also a great way to go if you are sod on the 24" barrel but you are looking at $1100 plus for the gun. I have made the middle of the road mistake and would avoid it if you plan on shooting a lot which goes back to shoot a match or two and find out what your appetite is. Message me anytime if you have questions and search for Hawkeye Ordnance or Getting Started in 3 Gun on Youtube for some videos on just that. M
  13. Welcome to the forums - I will check em out!
  14. Try a little grip tape on your mag release to make it slightly more positive. Not sure if it is class legal or not. I would also consider ditching the gloves at least until you have everything dialed in. It is hard to sense subtlety with gloves. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
