  1. Thanks, its good to hear from someone who shot back to back. That is a true test. Can you tell me about the differences in the grip and trigger?
  2. What about after the sale service? How does each treat their customer after the cash is handed over? Any gun functioning problems with either manufacturer? PM is ok if you desire...
  3. Looking at Akai with a stainless grip and Infinity 40 cal limited 2011 gun. Have read about Akai 'stroker' guns and Infinity fit and finish. Anyone had a chance to shoot both makes? Understand there is a trigger 'feel' difference. Also considering a sight tracker/hybrid barrel option... Cost is not an issue between the two. You can PM me if you desire. Thanks...
  4. I have heard that people use pasters and business cards for shims, how long they hold up who knows..
  5. I use a midland mounted on top of my muff. A friend uses mobius (sp?) mounted on brim of hat. Both not know there are even there. Great 1080p and easy upload.....
  6. Bob, at what weight is your trigger pull?
  7. Do you find the gun heavy on transitions at 46+ oz. ?
  8. Exactly the examples I was looking for. Great gun!!! Thanks Mike....
  9. Tim, do you still have that gun?
  10. My original post was 6" on a 5" frame with the sight on the barrel. However it seems like a 5 vs 6 is also up for discussion. Does the extra 1" really help (hard to quantify)? A new 6" gun would be needed or fit a 6" in current 5.
  11. Great info guys, of course this brings up the old question 5" or 6" or ? in a complete new gun. Anyone shot a 5" 1911/2011 and shot same with a 6" barrel? Would like to hear your impressions..
  12. Someone mentioned that new USPSA rules (1911/2011, limited class) allow a longer (6" ?) barrel that extends beyond the slide with the front sight mounted on the barrel. The idea is a longer sight radius and a front sight that does not move with the slide. Anyone tried this?
  13. I used Winchester large pistol primers (for standard and magnum loads, according to the box) the Winchester ran about 30fps faster than federal, with 4.1 gr Clays (45acp). You could hear and feel the differences. Solution, use .1 less.
  14. Alliant e-3 takes just about the same charge weight as Clays, 1/2 tenth either way for the same PF. Burns clean too. Using this till I can find some Clays, recoil seems a very little stiffer but its very close....45acp....
  15. Kelly, call Dawson they should be able to help.
  16. Since this is my second Para, I would like to venture an OPINON. First one bought in 1995 P14-45 (made in Canada). A well known GM was shooting one and so was my friend who knew him and was an 'A' (uspsa) shooter at the time (now a GM). My friend who also was an amateur gunsmith. So he modified mine by dumping out all the fire control 'stuff' and replaced the trigger, sear, hammer, disconnector as well as the series '80' parts, also added the usual uspsa limited parts (magwell etc.) did a 'trigger' job (2/12-2/3/4 lbs.) with a nice clean break and it NEVER failed since (estimated round count 30k+) (i did on occasion). Just replaced the stock ejector/mainspring/extractor. Works perfect. Rather than refinish this oldie but goodie, I decided to buy a uspsa ready competition gun. A Para p14-45 Pro Custom ready to go except for a trigger job.WRONG. too many MIM parts, thumb safety broke right out of the box. But Para made good. Jamming of the mainspring under the disconnector caused the gun to jam on numerous occasions. (mainspring is a length only available from Para), I sent the gun back to para and they replaced the frame saying the cut for the mainspring was too low and that any 1911 mainspring would now work. Got the gun back and again replace the entire fire control system. Not quite the end, after about 5k rounds the barrel bushing cracked and jammed the gun. Finally after numerous trips to my gunsmith and 4 months of screwing around it now works PERFECT. Current round count approx. 10k+. P.S. still need mainsprings from Para, Ed Brown etc still too short.
  17. Lots of MIM parts floating around nowadays. Don't know about this one..
  18. Dillion with dillion case feeder 1 year old 650 sometimes (0-3 per hundred) feeds a 45acp case upside down. Anyone have this problem and what is the fix????? Thanks...
  19. epoxy dries hard, are you concerned that the epoxy may crack and have little pieces in there?
  20. Dawsons are way way more expensive, but may be better quality????
  21. After gathering all the input I went with a Midland mounted on top of my earmuffs, great 1080p plus image stabilization, if image stabilization is not important then go with a Modius mounted on the bill of your hat, very small and lite....
  22. I use e-3 in 45acp 230 xtreme, not quite as soft shooting as clays but close. Vit N320, 3.2/3.3 gr 9 mm147gr xtreme 900fps, shoots like a 22 mag.
  23. For those of you that have used POV cameras ...I am thinking of mounting mine on my 'earmuffs' , there are 2 options Directly on the plastic 'muff' (either right or left side) or on top of the headband. I am wondering what would give the best results or if it really matters... Thanks....
  24. Will trade 4lbs. Vit n320 for 4lbs Clays............
