  1. Does anyone have a new pro custom 14-45, if so what mods have you made? Give me the good and bad as I am considering replacing my need to be rebuilt 1995 vintage, with the new one.....
  2. Nemo is on the right track, I put a 13lb. recoil spring and it sometimes would not go into full battery and the trigger would release and no marks on the primer. However never had failure to extract (limp wristing?) Have the apex competition kit.
  3. Shooter has stainless guide rods that weigh less, is that an option?
  4. What will the striker do instead of the recoil spring besides reducing trigger pull? Besides, already have the Apex comp kit...
  5. Tried replacing the std. captive recoil spring (16lb) with a 13lb.(captive) from speed shooters, slide would not go into full battery many times. Spring is SHORTER than stock but I don't know if that was the problem. Friend suggested I try a non-captive recoil rod and a progressive spring from wolf. I shoot lite loads and when the gun is a little dirty the cases stovepipe on recoil. WSF at 9mm 147gr rn with 3.7 gr works (about 885-900 fps). When I drop to 3.6 gr. is when the stovepipe comes into play. With the 13lb. spring there was in NO STOVEPIPE. Suggestions?
  6. Thanks, I am currently using Xtreme plated. Let you know when I test the Bayou 'green' bullets. Naturally, they must travel at or very near the same FPS in order for the test to be valid. On another subject, I did test the xtreme plated with the same bullets in my 9mm 147gr rn with 2 different powders. 3.7 gr of WSF vs. 3.3 gr of N320. both shot chrono at 890-900 fps. The vit n320 had approx. 15-20 percent LESS felt recoil to me. So I am switching to vit n320 for my IDPA gun. Felt recoil is very subjective but this load was also much quieter (also subjective since I don't have a db meter). Hope also to test the vit n320 against clays in my 45acp (230gr rn) also both making major and as possible to the same FPS as possible. THANKS..........
  7. Thanks, Cheers623, that exactly the information I needed. A friends friend uses the Bayou 45acp 230rn with 3.9 gr of Clays, I use xtreme plated 45acp 230rn and use 4.2 gr. clays. Both make major. I am going to gets some of his loads and then chrono BOTH and see FPS and felt recoil for myself. With your analysis I expect to feel LESS recoil with the Bayou, how much less depends on if I will switch to Bayou.
  8. I am using 4.1-4.2 grains of Clays 45acp 230rn Xtreme plated bullets for USPSA, makes major 170pf. Load data for Bayou Green coated lead 230rn uses 3.8-3.9 clays for the same speed. Since you would be using less powder, .2 gr, would there be any differences in felt recoil?
  9. What about felt recoil between n310 and WST???
  10. Had a similar problem with brass case not aligning in station #1. Shell plate was slightly off, got new one from Dillion (free after returned old one.) and all OK.
  11. How is the FELT recoil (45acp 230gr plated) with both making major of Clays vs. N320?
  12. Turns out it was a slightly out of spec 45acp shellplate. Dillion sent a new one, everything works great. Thanks for you replies.....
  13. Having trouble on a new 650 with the brass case (45acp) not lining up with station #1. Sometimes i get a jam and a slight release of the handle and then complete downstroke works. I put a single case in station #1 and can see as the die hits the case it slightly tilts the case while its feeding into the die. If I put a little clockwise (very little) pressure on the shellplate it lines up perfect. What is the fix?? Thanks.....
  14. I have medium size hands which would fit better the STI (eagle or other)or Para p14-45 both double stack 45acp???
  15. After reading this thread, I am undecided on getting my p14-45 para (1995 vintage) rebuilt later this year, new barrel, maybe new slide with adjustable rear and green frontsight and all other parts that are wornout. The gun also needs refinishing. It is now a limited USPSA gun with 3lb trigger, bomar sights, extended magwell, extended mag release etc. It runs great no failures to date over 10k rounds. Either that or get a custom 45acp from sti/dawson. Anyone who has shot both I would appreciate your thoughts.
  16. Tried the 13 ismi recoil spring in my M&P Pro 5" had multiple failures to go into full battery, went back to the stock 16lb. ? factory spring no problems. I believe that the shorter 13 is the reason, how much shorter than stock is your 15???
